PMDG MD-11 - opinions?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just wondered what people's opinions were of this add on, especially in comparison to the 737NGX.

Since I got the NGX it's all I want to fly due to the level of immersion and quality of the VC. How does the MD-11 stack up? Will I be liable to disappointment with the VC quality having been spoiled with the NGX?

Thanks

VC isn't quite as nice but it's older tech. Immersion wise it's excellent. It's completely different than any other plane out there and is quite a lot of fun to fly. It's a fantastic add on and if you want something that's different from the usual you won be disappointed.

A challenge to fly and very enjoyable too! Not as good as the NGX in quality of textures but all in all its a beauty!

I mainly fly the MD-11 nowadays, got kind of bored with the NGX. -_-

Still my favourite PMDG craft and one of my overall darlings. Don't expect the sharp graphics in the VC when compared. But the systems, docs and features are equally good and you can also enjoy a very unique and highly automated plane.

The VC works very good and also comes with a nice lighting engine. On the character itself, you may not own such a plane yet. So you don't enter the 'if you've seen one, you've seen them all' regime with getting the MD11. I don't know if that counts for you.

Thanks all! I'm pretty much sold, I think once I've got the FSLabs A320 (soon please!) this will be my next addition

Got both, bought the MD-11 after the NGX and I rarely fly the NGX now. I find the MD-11 more challenging to fly, and the landing speeds can be fairly high which is a nice sensation. But it maintains good frame rates and is equally capable flying short or long haul. The VC graphics are not quite to the high standard of the NGX but it is still very nice and additionally there is a great 2d cockpit which I find really handy when things are happening fast. Apart from perhaps the Level-D 767, I think it is the best aircraft I've bought, highly recommended.

I'm in the same boat here having purchased the MD-11 due to being impressed with the NGX. I find the MD much more fun to fly due to the automation and challenges posed for landing and, at least for me, take off. The VC isn't as nice as the NGX but to be honest, the differences, at least to me, are minor and should not dissuade you from purchasing. Get it and come join FedEx virtual cargo B)

A challnging bird, a must have imho. Not "so modern" like NGX regarding features, but excellent to fly and enjoy. Especially used with FS2crew.

I would love it, if PMDG makes a MD-11 v2 like the 747. But I'm still happy with the one which is out.

PMDG MD-11 is an absolutely beauty. Take a look in the "favourite 3 aircraft" thread; it seems at least as many people prefer the MD-11 to the NGX. Me, I put them at 'equal place'; they are both brilliant in their own way.

Any fan of the NGX and the way PMDG do things, must pick up the MD-11!

more fun to fly due to the automation

I have never heard someone say this before, but the advanced automation features of the MD-11 indeed seem somewhat attractive. I never have time to perform long flights (i.e., 2+ hours of flight, as I only fly on weekends when I have other things to do) with the B747 because of fuel panel changes and step climbs that should be monitored and performed while I am sleeping. However, the graphics of the PMDG MD-11 do seem rather poor in comparison with that of other products.

I am really looking forward to the FSL A320 or any good modern Airbus. Should a good one come out, I would love to begin investing in a good side stick, such as the FDS one!

I shelved the NGX once I got the MD11, if you have ezdock, it is Even better. An amazing heavy to fly, handles really well, and it needs attention on approach or you will be sorry.

I use it with voice control from MCE and it is a pleasure to fly.

I agree....the NGX only has eye candy appeal over the MD-11. Other than that, The MD-11 is quite possibly PMDG's best product overall. If you notice many of the comments about the NGX, 99% of them will say "it looks so good"....but apart from that the 737 really is a boring aircraft. The MD-11 has quite alot to offer and I wish that PMDG would continue developing it.

Just to echo what everyone else is saying...an amazing aircraft; you won't regret the purchase. I'd hazard agreement with the above statement of the MD11 being PMDGs best product.
