February 12, 201313 yr These two comparisons are the best I could do so far. In Alabama The verdict is still out as far as I am concerned. Yet to fly enough in 1.099 to really catch on, but then it will be the norm anyway.... Conclusions: 1.096 is basically green, more green, and less green = plasticky 1.099 is basically green, and brown*ish, and grey*ish = more real(????)
February 12, 201313 yr Hey thanks for this, I've been wondering about the update. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
February 12, 201313 yr Still don't like any of it, Im going to wait for ORBX Global. Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
February 12, 201313 yr Commercial Member Hmm seems to be some improvement at least, I guess I got to download these new versions from Flight 1 then.
February 12, 201313 yr I bought GE Tropics last week and noticed the difference when I fly over North America. I like the changes Tropics made to North America.
February 13, 201313 yr I am up in the air on there, but the new version is definitely an improvement. I am only worried that Orbx World will just kill overall performance as a whole. That is something I will have to read about, as I tend to fly complex planes over default and GEX and notice performance loss as one would expect over Orbx. I just would hate to see that no matter where I fly it is the same slower performance. William Sequeira

Shoulnt be any different than GEX or default since its just texture replacements that are the same size as default. The only difference is that the ORBX has night lights annotated as autogen that could effect performance. Although they will probably include a switch to turn them off. Otherwise it should perforn better than their region packs and similar to default. I dont notice any performance between GEX and default in any a/c. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 13, 201313 yr I believe the only reason the Orbx scenery slows down so much is because of the custom autogen. I don't think regular textures on their own will cause any big performance hit. And the night lights won't be part of Orbx World I don't think, it's just a texture replacing set. I personally am not sure how well it will work with Ultimate Terrain. GEX works perfectly and I am very happy with it. I have all their regions as well as all the regions for Ultimate Terrain. I hope they add Africa, the Middle East, and Asia to GEX and UTX to cover the whole world!

Yes they will be included, but they aren't vector based lights, just autogen annotated lights that dont follow streets or anything like that. JV has posted some screens of them. February 14, 201313 yr ...destroy your performance..? Actually I find Orbx rural areas no more demanding than crappy default, sometimes even better performance. Orbx global will most likely be even lighter than Orbx regions. As one said earlier, performance is really related to autogen. February 16, 201313 yr Well interesting screenshots as the man said one greenish the other brownish - take your pick but no apparently earth shattering improvement with 1.099. Guess i'm too used to Orbx. Maybe screenshots don't do 1.099 justice but unless upgrade arrangements change I won't be finding out. Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened."
