March 13, 201313 yr I heard that all of the weather engines are written by the same people and the companies are also owned by the same people. They are making a killing here :Money Eyes: :Liar: Is that why they all work the same and are all limited by FSX internal limitations.
March 14, 201313 yr The interesting figure is 99.5% server availability. That's a lot of hours downtime each year. 99,5 % uptime is indeed a very good rating. And another step-up (I can't recall the level names from memory) is bloody expensive. Declared uptime cannot be less than the deal states, but there is nothing bad in having actually 99,75 % when the deal talks about 99,5% availability. Bartłomiej Ender
March 14, 201313 yr I cant say I am enthused by their screenshots, think I will pass on this as it would seem their is nothing new or innovative hereSpot on... OpusFSX raised the bar.. from what I've heard is that AS2012 got better by the competition of Opus.. I use Opus, and im very happy with it in its current state.. Yes, there has been up and downs but nothing has gotten me to return to as..
March 14, 201313 yr I'd buy it if they managed to solve wind shifts, stutters at injection and all those goodies. I highly doubt they did. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
March 14, 201313 yr I'd buy it if they managed to solve wind shifts, stutters at injection and all those goodies. I highly doubt they did. I think Opus are now hitting the wall with what they can do. FS internally is a mess regarding the weather. I can't really see how anybody can improve it without changing the source code. I'm hoping P3D at some point improves upon this.

The guys at REX and Activesky are improving their weather engine fore many years and were not able to completely solve those problems. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
March 14, 201313 yr The only thing Opus done better than AS12, in my opinion, is load up faster and that mean its lacking in other areas. So if you want a weather engine that that loads quickly and not too worried about features then its great. For example, I will load Opus if on very rare occasions AS12 is not connected to FS and I can't wait for its slightly long loading time. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
March 14, 201313 yr I'm a long time owner and user of all weather engines available for FSX and I've never had as realistic and good looking weather as I have now using OpusFSX as the engine and AS2012 for the cloud textures. To me this combo is working really really nice and has improved the sensation of flying tremendously especially on low visibility approaches. As always the opinions differ and up to each one to find what they think will give them the best result depending on what you're looking for.

Declared uptime cannot be less than the deal states, but there is nothing bad in having actually 99,75 % when the deal talks about 99,5% availability. It wasn't aimed as a criticism, I just remember a high flying executive once quoting proudly that system availability was 98.6% which in fact is an appalling figure for the system concerned. Everyone in the room went wow that's great until they were told to calculate the numbers. For a system allied to delivering weather data for FSX achieving 99.5% is acceptable.

AS2012 has a far more stable weather depiction. With Opus the cloud structure re-arranged after every download of new weather. I know version 3 should have that too but to me HIFI is far ahead yet of OPUS. Menno Menno i7-11700, 16GB, 1 TB SSD, 2 TB HDD, RTX 3070, Windows 11, MSFS 2020 DeLuxe, P3D 4.5
March 14, 201313 yr My weather engine has an almost 100% access record. Plus the 24,000 weather sattions is spurious as there are never much more than 4,000 available at any one time. It doesn't seem any different to the others. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
March 14, 201313 yr I got FSMeteo when it was first released (long, long ago!), and still use it. But since I got REX Essentials w/Overdrive, I've been using it instead. Only problem I have with REX is is seems to freeze (although very short) FSX every time it uploads new weather info, whereas I never notice FSMeteo working in the background. While real weather is somewhat important to me, it's not one of my main concerns when simming. So for the time being, I'll pass, until someone comes out with a package that not only downloads the weather but configures the clouds/storms realistically on the fly. I'll be waiting... -= Gary Barth =-
March 15, 201313 yr I own and have used OPUS, REX and AS2012. In the past the combo i used was REX textures with AS2012 running the weather engine. Then I bought OPUS, and remained with REX textures for awhile. But then AS2012 is now actively beta testing their SP2, with new textures and a refined weather engine and i have since switched back to using AS2012 for both textures and the weather engine. I think that with SP2, HiFi has hit the wall with what can be done with the train wreck that is the weather simulation in FSX. But it does a very good job in how it depicts hitting the wall. March 15, 201313 yr Moderator Competition is good, but I seriously doubt I'll leave Opus behind now for another weather engine. OpusFSX is maturing fast and does everything I need it to do (within the limits of FSX of course). I wish they'd change their focus to X-Plane 10 instead. That is in dire need of a decent weather engine.

Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 Opus is without doubt the best weather engine ever released for FSX. It is constantly being updated, and the latest update even includes Cloud Icing:- OpusFSX Beta Version 2.94.0 "Cloud icing has been introduced which the LWE will automatically set within the cloud to none, low, medium, high, or severe depending on the ambient temperature within the cloud, the cloud type, and the cloud moisture level. Some icing is likely to occur when the ambient temperature is between -20C and 0C, with more noticeable effects when the ambient cloud temperature is between -12C and -8C. All calculated icing effects require valid GRIB forecast data". And notice that Opus is still putting out Beta versions,in fact 2.94.0 was released yesterday and this morning 2.94.1 was available!
