FS9 is STILL the #1 flight simulator for 'heavy' operations!

Why one would think he is in need to tell he has sent a PM. Perhaps expecting others to be alarmed? Why not telling here so that we are more aware of how we define "offending" statements.

Unless you want to put up thousands of dollars for equipment and bandwidth to run your forum, don't tell Tom how to run his. This is his home, and we are just guests. He has the right to run it anyway he likes, If he felt necessary to say what he wanted to say to user by PM that's his business, it's not up to us to question his reasons.

Thanks

I agree.  I've tried other forums and this one seems to be the most active.  As I like exchanging info and helping people out I've found my way back here.  If Tom says stand down it's best we do or go to some of the alternatives where you won't reach as many people.

Hey guys, I started messing with another enb setting and got some very nice results. It was originally for FSX that I found somewhere on the web and I decided to try it on FS9. It looked quite nice at first. Then I changed a few lines and it makes my FS9 look stunning.

It gives a natural haze and soft focus effect. I absolutely love the look during dusk and dawn, especially with UT night lighting enabled for dusk. It looks just as nice during the day too.

Since we're discussing ways to improve our FS9 world, I thought I'd share it.

If anybody wants to try, here it is...

Can you post only the line/lines you changed please? Thx.

Sorry about that.  Here it is....

The lines I changed were on Color Correction and Bloom.  I'm posting the whole sections instead of individual lines because I honestly can't remember which exact lines I changed from there other than bumping color saturation to 2..  I did this last week.  I'm not sure if SSAO, Input and Perpixellighting are the same for everyone, and I don't know if they have any effect when only bloom is activiated.  So if things look too weird, you guys can try copying and pasting the entire settings from my previous post after making a backup of your current settings.

The one aspect of FSX I really don't like is the color. Its just too vibrant, IMO. Everything looks so......bright.

A 32-bit OS gives a 32-bit application 3GB of VAS. A 64-bit OS gives a 32-bit application 4GB of VAS.

With all due respect, a 32-bit OS gives a 32-bit application 2Gb of VAS.

More is only possible when the 32-bit application has had the LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag set in its header. This would allow a theoretical maximum of 4Gb, but Windows 32-bit requires an amount of VAS to be reserved for system-critical processes. This is where the now well-known 3Gb switch comes in, with the flag USERVA=XXXX where XXXX is the number of Mb reserved

I am so reminded of the 640k RAM barrier shenanigans of old...

In 1993 upgrading to 2GB of RAM was bleeding edge on a Pentium IV and more than FS9 could ever want to use.

I've never seen OOM issues while running 2GB RAM on my present Core2 Duo FS system.

The most likely issue might be software leaking memory, as the session progresses.

You could never run MS Word for example, in the background of a FS flight, for this reason.

You had two 2GB's of RAM in your computer back in 1993?

2003...(Smacks side of head)... FS9 was released in 2003

My how time flies.

I miss the rain and  snow in fs9, how they muffed that  up in fsx is beyond me.

Maybe it was done at the expense of having the rain show on the runway surface? Let's be fair here: FSX really had some great new features. Too bad the team were not able to finish the product as needed.

I wouldn't mind going back to FS9...if

1) we could have high resolution photo-scenery that would not give us Blurries. This was always a problem in FS9 for me. I tried getting expensive 10K RPM disks and what not... didn't help.

2) and it had at least the FSX 2.0 LOW water

For a little while I was using both FS9 and FSX. I fly almost exclusively in the Pacific Northwest; so consequently when Orbx released their FTX NA Pacific Northwest the difference between FS9 and FSX became overwhelmingly weighted in FSX's favour. FS9 most certainly loads faster than FSX, but sometimes good things come to those who wait.
