Weird. Could someone reply to this please, is it normal for the Twin Otter No, it's by developer's design. Happens because idle power falls way into beta range. A tradeoff with minimal impact I guess. Tom
July 17, 201312 yr Hey folks, I was a mechanic as well as a pilot on the Twin Otter. As far as flap sounds go. when selecting them from the cockpit, with engines off; you mainly heard like an airwhooshing type sound. This was related to the actuators moving the flaps. Most of the time, with full hydraulic press. 3,000 psi; you could lower the flaps all the way down, with out the hydraulic pump kicking in to rebuild pressure. When flying the plane, usually you couldn't hear them much at all, just a little of that whooshing sound, we mainly just focused on the center post indicator. I don't have this version, I have the other one. Just FYI: In a real twin otter if doing a full flap STOL take-off, you had better make sure the control wheel was all the way back to your chest/stomach. Reason being, the Twin otter would actually be like a helicopter, in that the nose was actually downward approx. 10 degrees on the attitude indicator, till flaps got to 10 degrees, then it would transition to a more conventional pitch attitude. If you don't do this, it will wheel barrow, and then you'll have some fun! On landing, if using full flaps (37.5) degrees, you would have a very pronounced nose down attitude for landing. Just check out some of the SABA videos on you tube. We had a policy to only use max of 20 degrees, due to several pilots having difficulty with the steeper nose down sight picture, a few initial nosewheel, landings. :-) Hopefully, the Aerosoft folks have addressed these in the flight model. I'll keep tabs on the comments, to see if I want to purchase. It was a fun airplane to fly. Like a giant 172. Best, David
July 19, 201312 yr without a yoke hide function it can be difficult (annoying) to see the lower part of the HSI, VSI, and radar altimeter Just bought it yesterday and have completed a short flight from over ORBX PNW - beautiful aircraft, great VC and systems functionality also. However, I don't have TrackIR and for me the yoke does obscure visibility of the HSI, VSI, radar altimeter, and the VS indicator. Also am not able to adjust the HDG bug when in flight as it is behind the yoke. And none of the different panel views seem to help (except looking over at the co-pilot's panel). Anybody got any suggestions? Anybody got any suggestions? Both Opus FSX and Ez-Dok allow you to customise your own views and then assign them to joystick/throttle/yoke buttons. I have views set up to look over the yoke in both the Beaver and (old) Twin Otter for when I need a closer look at the instruments. Unfortunately, both of these solutions involve spending more money. Nevertheless, each is a lot cheaper than TrackIR.
July 19, 201312 yr I reported that "ifly" post/site to admin as spam. That's just creepy how he copied AvSim's layout, then has the 'nads' to post link spam in a popular thread on the very site he's copying. Bottom feeder. ... That's not AVSim's layout. That's Invisionboards layout. The portal/forum software that AVSim and many, many other sites on the internet use as well. vatsim s3
July 19, 201312 yr RXP Garmins are working very well in Milviz, Carenado and Real Air.I wonder how they did it? Also I read on their site: "Please note that in the initial release only the wheeled 300 model is included, the other models (100 and versions with floats/tundra wheels/skis) will follow soon without additional cost. " I will wait for all development to finish and then look at the finished product ... maybe someone will have added RXP Garmin by that time. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
July 19, 201312 yr Commercial Member Just bought it yesterday and have completed a short flight from over ORBX PNW - beautiful aircraft, great VC and systems functionality also. Anybody got any suggestions? The default eyepoint leaves these instruments and knobs perfectly visible, so I'm not sure what you've done to have them hide behind the yoke. In fact, I even move the eyepoint back further and still have access to things like the HSI knobs. Maybe you could post a screenshot so we can see what you're seeing? Cheers Paul Golding

Anybody got any suggestions? For your problem in not being able to reach the Heading Knob; The default [Heading +] and [Heading -] keyboard assignments, work with the Twotter's Heading Bug, so you could assign keyboard commands to them. I use the "[" and "]" keys (square bracket keys), on my keyboard to control the heading bug. It's fast, convenient and effective.
July 19, 201312 yr The default eyepoint leaves these instruments and knobs perfectly visible Yes, you are right, the gauges are visible from the default eyepoint. I typically "move my seat" back a good deal to get a better view of the panel, and I see that this is what was causing the yoke to obscure the gauges. When I wish to read the gauges in flight now, I will just move forward a few notches to check then move back to the eyepoint I prefer. July 19, 201312 yr It is my understanding, that this plane was released before the "whole package" was completed, so that those waiting could get it, and enjoy what was already completed. The rest of the package, being available at a later date, as a free update. I think this a BRILLIANT move by Aerosoft. Not only does it get the product out earlier, but it also enable them to potentially gain feedback from purchasers, BEFORE the final package is finished, so allowing the possibilities of changes, based on customer feedback. As far as the GPS is concerned -- RXP, while an improvement on the default GPS, now has some "issues". No developer support. No Nav Data updates -- (really surprised not more complaints/disappointment about this !) Having purchased the product, I can see that pilots want to use it in their plane of choice. Personally, I prefer the 2D popup .. so I am happy, especially as I have much more control over the 2D, than if the 3D was incorporated into the Model. Would be nice to see another developer produce an updated version of the RXP GPS, with NavDaya update support, and developer support. (On my Christmas list this year for Santa) Unfortunately, I have not been good this year, so I am not holding my breath !!
July 19, 201312 yr I've updated the in-panel GPS a bit, so it looks more like the real thing.. send me a PM with your email address if you would like a copy. Works nicely with the popup RXP unit. Bert
July 20, 201312 yr Bert's GPS and GA modifications are always very good and improve my sim experience! PM sent... ;-)
July 22, 201312 yr As far as the GPS is concerned -- RXP, while an improvement on the default GPS, now has some "issues". No developer support. No Nav Data updates -- (really surprised not more complaints/disappointment about this !) No Developer Support? Well. They seem to work correctly and the manual covers what you need to know I guess. I have never had the product "not work" so I guess I am ok there as are most people I know that own it. Community supports eachother as far as "how do I do this" or "how do I do that". Garmin's actual official manuals cover the "how to" for using GNS 430/530 in real life and it applies 99% to the RXP units which is kind of what makes them sooooo cool. They are the actual Garmins with the actual real world database. As for Nav Data? Well. Thank God November 2011 data is avialable as an update huh. At least You can almost say January 2012. LOL. So ya it is now a few years old but holy cow it's got most of the LPV approaches out there in the database! I mean really this is 99.9% good for waypoints compared to the original 2006 database that was in the default FSX Navdata. LOL. Default GPS was completely incapable of LPV so even now in 2013, RXP is sooooo good. We owe that man a cigar (dev of RXP) even though he has gone into stealth mode. I am more worried about ILS data missing from ariports in FSX. That is probably far more "out of sync" with reality now than the GPS approaches in the RXP. Runway numbers are wrong and becomming more so as time goes on in FSX now compared to real world charts and plates. That is going to mess FSX up for real world training if that is what people want. Radio based nav aids (NDB, VORTAC and localizers) are burned into the airports is my understanding and no ammount of Navdata updates to RXP can help that if that's the case. But for GPS approaches, RXP is still king. We just need to figure out how to convert Navigraph data files to the World.bin file used by RXP. I saw a 2013 World.bin file floating around at one point but it was removed by a moderator. Darn! I cannot even find the link anymore. (most people only buy or own Country based update subscriptions BTW). AS soon as it is 3 months old, whoever had it should post it again! I mean it is expired so no threat to Garmin. In any case, This twotter is a fun old girl. Thank you Aerosoft. Can't wait for the additional FREE variants and paints to come out. Charles.
