Is there a way to fly without the GPS display enabled?

That's the only thing stopping me from buying it.

Yes.

The GPS in this case, has an ON/OFF switch (unlike the default FSX one), and in fact as standard, when you're setting up from 'Cold & Dark', the GPS is switched off any way.

I leave it switched off, and use a RXP 430 WAAS pop-up instead. I do understand that RXP is important to people (me too), but the fact is, you can use it (I used it for 6 hours with the Twotter last night)... just not within the VC domain. Even if Aerosoft added an option for it into the model (for VC use), I'd still prefer the pop-up any way.

I do appreciate the desire for RXP integration into the model, but the balance of this thread has been 'tipped' a little too much towards that, IMHO.

There is so much to enjoy about this plane, aside from anything to do with GPS!

Eg.... Depart Plymouth (EGHD) and track the LND VOR (114.20) on Inbound 257 degrees to Lands End, then leave the VOR on an outbound 245 degrees, and you'll reach the Scilly Isles (EGHE).

Beautiful flight, and no GPS agonies required.

Thanks, Dave,it's just to me,it looks so cheap when any default FSX guage is used.

I know this is beyond Aerosoft's control and I'm more of a tubeliner than a smaller aircraft - I do use

the Q400 on ocasion, but find myself going back to the A320 and NGX, (thanks for the British pilot sounds btw).I feel the twotter could be used for back to basics flying (which I badly need after the last two airbusXtended landings in EIDW

Would you gents like to see an amphibian model of this? I see that they plan on putting this bird on floats...but why not gear and floats? FSX is missing a "anywhere" bird.

Aerosoft Catalina PBY, especially with the sonic solutions sound pack and Accufeel V2.

Would really enjoy an amphib version of the Twotter as this version is amazing!

Some rambling notes from my first 6 hours flight with the plane:-

Great summary.  I've come to the conclusion after last nights flight that I agree with using my RXP as a popup anyways - in the VC it's far enough from my line of sight and so far down that I don't know if I'd use it much without a popup.

I've noticed that after a few flights now that I've had zero issues with the yoke being in the way, and I don't use TrackIR.

I do find that those overhead switches have to be the worst placed switches I've ever seen - thank god for those cabin views, kudos to the devs for that.

This plane has definitely become one of my favs.  I took a flight last night arriving at Whitehorse Intl shortly after dusk in rather rough weather - beautiful, but I wouldn't want to have been a passenger!  The girl just handled so nicely, took it down by hand.

  • My single only disappointment is that unlike the last few Aerosoft releases, FSUIPC Mouse Macros are not working with this aircraft, so I was unable to use these to assign key presses to that fiddly 'pitch wheel' ; so it's mouse click city, and very fiddly. The default AP key commands for Vertical Speed Inc/Dec do not work with this dial, and neither to the default (FSUIPC) commands for Pitch Ref Inc/Dn. My solution for now is to hand fly all descents! ... but you know what, a lot of Twotters have no AP so that's no hardship  ........ but it would be wonderful if Aerosoft could bind the default 'AP_Pitch_Inc/Dec' commands to the up and down commands of that pitch wheel

Are any of the "standard" things assignable then?  Heading bug, altitude select, OBI 1 and 2?  If not, that would be more of a turn off (to me) than even the default gps, so I hope somebody can convince them that being able to assign basic dial twisting commands through fsuipc is actually important...

+1.  Huge.

Yes.

AP Master, YD, Heading Mode, Nav, Alt Hold, Appr, Hdg +/-, Course +/-  all key assignable, via standard FSX assignments, or FSUIPC.

It's just the pitch wheel that's not.

I just want to thank for the nice feedback we had until now (dirsegarding the RXP debate).

Later we will make LINDA/LUA scripts for FSUIPC available for the Twin Otter.

Then it should become easier for the home cockpit builders and those with special hardware.

Thanks Finn, and don't forget to put a hide yoke option in there for us that use real yokes 8D

There has been a real good question here.  Seeing that RealityXP has tanked support of their wonderful product, why doesn't Aerosoft pick up where RealityXP left off, and build their own set of hard core GPS devices that can be used on their aircraft or purchased separately?  Between it's desparate need in X-Plane 10/64bit and now FSX, there would be a big market for realistic GPS devices that can be easily coded into Aerosoft products (great intensive to buy, buy, buy).

Ok, this is good. That plus the mention of definite future Linda support definitely appears to put that issue to rest.

I find that using the mouse wheel on the Pitch wheel works best.

Mouse clicks do not work as well..

Yes! They could build it and make it usable by any developers that care to integrate it. C'mon Mathjis, call a whiteboard meeting.
