No more Flight on Steam

Featured Replies

Was just on Steam checking pondering the purchase of Aerofly, and noticed that Flight is gone.

Yeah, it's been pulled. You can still get it from the GFWL Marketplace until Aug 25th though. They extended the shutdown by 3 days.

The steam version won't even start-up anymore. They didn't just disable purchasing, they seemed to have shut it down completely on Steam.

Wow, soo glad I added my keys to my account last week. I had bought some dlc during the sale, but never bothered adding the keycodes.

What happened to Steam being the best thing since sliced bread if you can't use software you legitimately purchased there just because they stopped supporting it? No doubt they'll blame MS...

Will be giving both a miss in future.

Such a shame.

{edit - I bought Flight through MS, so not sure how the Steam keys work, but that's not the point}

I'm pretty sure he means you can't buy new copies of it on Steam.  You can still download and utilize it if you have purchased it in the past.

Also, it is never a distributors responsibility to provide support for someone elses product.  It is the manufacturer.

Odd. Despite how every one is affected I ran my Steam complete copy last night online and every function worked as usual except I could not locate the AOTD. People were online joining my server as well.

If I buy Flight and some DLC from Microsoft today, will I be able to use it and install it on new computers years from now or will I be shut out of it in 2014? There website is not that clear to me. I just built a new computer and was intending on installing Flight, but not if it is only good for a year.

With Flight pulled from Steam and GFW Marketplace closing, will there be any way to purchase Flight DLC in the future?

I was on a trip from the 23rd to the 30th, and it seems that I missed a lot on that matter. My other thread was closed, so I can only ask a few questions in here.

Firstly, Microsoft Flight has been moved to my Steam library and is available for download. Is it confirmed that it doesn't work anymore through Steam even if you download it?

Secondly, I still need some clarification on this because I don't get it. I know that from now on, it is not possible to purchase Microsoft Flight DLC, either from Steam of the GFWL Marketplace. But after July 1st 2014, will it be possible to even download Microsoft Flight, along with all the DLC I paid for? I bought the DLC through Steam, but I've got it activated on my GFWL account.

CB The reason the other thread was closed is that it got way off topic and couldn't be put back on course. I appreciate you opening this question again, as I feel it a valid one.

As for an answer, I think the answer to what you are asking will have to come from either Valve or Microsoft as I don't think any one person knows the answer at this point in time.  I'm hoping someone from either group will chime in here and let us all know what we are looking at.  If anyone does have valid (not speculative) information, please post it in this thread.

Thanks to all for your cooperation.

Thank you.

Chaotic, I started a Steam support ticket with the questions you asked. Before I send it in, I'd like to see if this sounds good and sums up what you're asking.

Hello.

Recently I've noticed that Microsoft Flight is no longer available for download on Steam. However, it is still in my Steam library with an option to download. Will I be able to continue to use my Microsoft Flight via Steam?

Secondly, and this question may not be answerable by you. You may be aware that in July of next year GFWL will shut down. While my Steam purchased content still be functional after this date?

Thank you for your time.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. It's very sad that there's still not a definite answer to Microsoft Flight's fate, and I hope that Microsoft chime in more on that issue, and specifically on Microsoft Flight.

Pandanator 2, I think that this is a great ticket, and if answered by a human, should get you a response. The problem with most Steam support techs is that they're robots that analyse your issue and give you stock responses most of the time that have nothing to do with your original issue. If you don't get a good answer, I'll open a support ticket too.

I support this 100%, and was about to make that suggestion.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've not run Flight for weeks (if not months) though when I just tried to run it using its desktop short-cut which references a steam URL, the steam client starts up and drops me into a forum stating that Flight has been dropped from steam and nothing else happens.  Now I also am a registered GFWL Flight owner, but do not have flight installed where my GFWL login can find it (though it still sits in the steamapps folder).  Does any know a way of simply moving the Flight steamapps folder to a location which the GFWL client can find it and link it in?  BTW, steam will do this just fine by dropping a game folder into steamapps; I'm hoping that GFWL can do the same.  Obviously I can simply download (again) though GFWL but my internet speed leaves much to be desired (i.e. it sucks).  Thanks for reading.
