Wrong Version of UiAutomationCore.dll

Featured Replies

I posted this in simforums. Nick was not aware of this. He replied that wrong version (6.0.6001.18000) was the most common used. He will test this and replace it, if this version makes a difference

Thanks - you beat me to it!

Before everyone gets jacked out of shape though....

I'm not so sure this is a problem:

The version that nick is posting is from Longhorn RTM 080118-1840 which was Vista service pack 1 and the other "right" version I believe is Vista pre-service pack.

They are both Vista 32 so though different version what makes it wrong?

Has this been causing crashes? I haven't had any menu crashes and I have the "wrong" version also.

Thank you.

FSX was developed with XP and Vista OS's and pretty sure Vista SP1 came out much later after FSX was developed.  The key is that the one I had in my main FSX directory was not installed by me and was the one PMDG recommended installing (and now NickN).  I had unexplained crashes and stuttering.  I removed it.  I installed the version recommended by PaulJ and many others and suddenly the crashes and stuttering went away.  In the CTD forum, there are some who have also installed this 6.0.5840.16386 version and their problems have disappeared too.  One individual reported he had the 6.0.5840.16386 version installed but looked in his folder when I reported the other version was in my file.  He was also getting unexplained crashes/freezes, black screens, etc., and discovered the wrong Uiautomationcore.dll was installed in his directory.  When he replaced it with the version he had before, his crashes and problems went away.  This may not work for everyone.  At least everyone has a choice.  If you want to go with NickN/PMDG (both Sources I respect a lot) or with the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide and other expert recommendations.  Personally I'm using the 6.0.5840.16386 version.

Best regards,

Jim

Edit:   Making it perfectly clear that PMDG did not distribute the wrong version of the Uiautomationcore.dll.

I have over 100 hours on the PMDG 777,with no issues, using Nicks download.

By the way, what is the correct font? Is it capitol "UIA"-utomationcore.dll?

Wrong version will fix menu crashes too, but you may get other unexplained crashes, hanging, freezing and stutters. I'm sure i have better(smoother)performance with right version

Tried both, do not see any difference.

Hi Jim,

AVSIM automatically capitalizes the first letter in Uiautomationcore.dll.  It should be spelled with all words together.  The Uiautomationcore.dll is part of the Microsoft.net Framework package which is used by developers to make sure FSX or the FSX addon runs in the way the developer intended, including memory management.  So the dll is very important.

Best regards,

Jim

I named mine Uiautomationcore.dll, moved it into my FSX directory but then Windows automatically renamed it as UIAutomationCore.dll.

pretty sure Vista SP1 came out much later after FSX was developed

The understanding going back a few years was that the uiautomationcore.dll bug was with the 64-bit version of uiautomationcore.dll found in Vista and W7 (may or maynot be a prob in win8-64) and that the fix was to replace the 64-bit version of uiautomationcore.dll with the 32-bit Vista version. It for sure would be a problem if Nick's was the 64bit version, but it is Vista 32 so it seems odd that a few say they have problems with it when so many have been using it problem free. Oh wait, this is FSX! Never mind :)

Understand your concern that it just got change by something, not good. I wonder what add-on program did this.

Nothing broken on my FSX so I'm gonna leave it in.

It doesn't matter - Windows file system names are not case sensitive.  FYI, the name as you'll find it installed from Windows is UIAutomationCore.dll, but again - the system will just as readily recognize uiautomationcore.dll as the same thing.

Scott

You should not replace, move, or copy system's files. This version of uiautomationcore.dll should be downloaded from Avsim guide, or that links above(see golfcart22 post)if guide can't be accessed in this moment.

Just download the file, extract it from archive and place it in FSX main folder.

FSX is a 32 bit application operation in a Windows 7 64 bit environment.  It will use 32 bit files only.  As I stated earlier, I recommended everyone keep it out of the Main FSX directory as I could not replicate any FSX Menu crashes with the Uiautomationcore.dll left out of the fsx folder.  I tried my hardest to get a crash hitting the menu several times.  Just couldn't do it.  That's why I thought it strange when I got an ntdll.dll crash and saw the Uiautomationcore.dll in my main fsx folder.  Then I found out from several Sources that it was the wrong version so replaced it with the one recommended by PaulJ.  My crash went away (which doesn't necessarily mean the dll fixed it).  The main thing I liked about it was the fact it made my fsx run much more smoother.  If it fixes crashes, well, then that's a nice bonus.

Jim

Another satisfied customer.  I'm really happy it is working for you too!  For me it was like night and day.  I really have to thank Zeljko (B247NG) for talking me into using the dll.  I'm very stubborn sometimes....

Best regards,

Jim

the uiautomationcore fix is only for Windows 7, 64 bit users. If you have Windows 8 installed, it is not compatible and you will see problems if it is installed.

Interesting....  I never needed the uiautomationcore fix in Windows 7 64-bit but FSX almost immediately CTDed, pointing to this .DLL when I upgraded to Windows 8 64-bit.  So, I put the so-called "correct" version in the FSX root folder and I have not noticed any problems.  I wonder where the incompatibility report originates?
