December 12, 201312 yr I have not seen the "disappearing" wings thing when flying through clouds. Is there an option I can check to get that? Also for weather theme in FSX I have been picking Active Sky Next as the theme. I am assuming that is the correct thing to choose?
December 12, 201312 yr Thanks for all input and testing so far guys, will look more into this tomorrow I guess.
December 12, 201312 yr Have a pretty high end 6 core SB-E OC'd system that runs FSX very well (with fps set at 30), and ASX runs fine. Installed ASN with default options and now I have bad stutters, not just during loading of WX, but almost constantly. Flying the same exact flight with ASX instead of ASN puts an end to the stutters and I'm back to 30 fps. Any thoughts or known issues?

I run AS2012 just fine but using ASN I am getting a very noticeable drop in FPS. I'm still playing with settings but there is definitely something going on in the background of ASN that is causing a substantial drop over AS2012 for me too.

Froogle tried it last night on his Twitch Stream, with the Axe, and he couldn't get it to work either, I used the PMDG NGX. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
December 13, 201312 yr For me it's not so much a drop in fps, since I could see that based on some additional load or WX. In my test flight, with relatively clear skies, I'm getting wild stutters and fluctuations in fps.

About the weather theme that should be ASN correct?

December 13, 201312 yr Commercial Member This is a multi core thingy here I think. First set your affinity mask appropriately and then take a look at this: http://www.hifitechinc.com/forums/showthread.php?1820-problem-with-ASN&p=10229&viewfull=1#post10229 Bottom line if you use fsinn, disable multicore (found by jimkapa there). There is nothing in ASN that brings fps down (unless a conflict with another add-on is involved or a virus scanner constantly scanning the radar files produced by ASN). Just keep in mind, that you may get lower fps in heavy cloud/ overcast situations (as usually), especially if you use high number of cloud layers and a significantly increased CDD (cloud draw distance). Truth is that ASN may alter the performance balance of your system. The reason is that for example you may be tempted to increase the max CDD to let's say 180 (to increase the max detail range of our radar). And 5 cloud layers in AS2012 is different compared to 5 cloud layers in ASN (in the latter clouds tend to be much thicker) Kostas Terzides ASN developer Kostas Terzides

Could be, he also had the checkerboard grid problem, people are reporting, which is something I haven't seen on my installation. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
December 13, 201312 yr Could be, he also had the checkerboard grid problem, people are reporting, which is something I haven't seen on my installation. I haven't seen that at all. It's not really a big deal but I was just curious if perhaps I had done something to disable it or not realizing I had to enable a setting to get it to happen.
December 13, 201312 yr Moderator This is a WAG here but based on testing - originally ina small a/c you could look out and see the wing partially obscured by the clouds. The problem with the original setting was that this cloud came into the cockpit and misted up the panel. We kept moving the circle of influence out so I am guessing here but if you are in a small a/c you will not see the wing obscured but if you are in a large a/c with a big wingspan, you might see it on occasion. If I have this wrong, I'm sure Damian or Kostas will clarify. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 13, 201312 yr And 5 cloud layers in AS2012 is different compared to 5 cloud layers in ASN (in the latter clouds tend to be much thicker) I was wondering about that but I have left it on 5 layers since that is what I was using in AS2012 and was trying to compare settings as best as I could, but thanks for pointing that out. I'm using the same CCD and visibility settings as I was in 2012. I'll mess with the layers now.
December 13, 201312 yr Set the CDD lower ;-) I have it set at the lowest setting in the sim...60 miles. Plus, why would that matter on a clear or mostly clear day? I get it with overcast or significant cloud cover, but not the conditions I was experiencing.
December 13, 201312 yr I'm using Prepar3d 2.0 and I get an error every time I load the simulator and Active Sky Next crashes. Not sure what to do.
