Not a Game!

Featured Replies

Ok Busterbvi, if a game requires an opposition and a loser, explain to the hundreds of millions of users why Angry Birds is not a game. Or Solitare. Or Candy Crush. You are allowed to go into a game with the sole intent of beating nothing but your own record (like not floating on flare, or getting on the runway at all). Do you consider that achievement a loss if that was your intent? Thousands of marathon runners do it. Most Olympians do it. By your definition, trial law is a game. So is the contract tender process. (admittedly there are days when you have to think that so as not to wind up a quivering mess in the corner...)

Angry birds, Candy Crush , sorry, never heard of them, not familiar so no comment. But FSX is STILL simulation !

I think people get confused with such offering as "Lock On"  or air warefare stuff, those are games.

Yet stuff like DCS, IL-2 Cliffs of Dover and Rise of Flight feature much more realistic and capable flight modelling, systems modelling and damage modelling than anything in FSX (or P3D).

Girl on the right, blondes are more fun ! and no wedding ring, bet the guys in the game camp didnt notice that !

   :LMAO:

Perhaps the guy's in the game camp wouldn't care.

For those in the hobby it is NOT a game, but....

I'm in the Hobby, have been on and of for 25 years and I think its a game.

Its not a simulator because although I try to follow real world procedures

in the NGX and I am getting better at it and more knowledgable all the time and enjoying the increasing depth

of emersion and once a week or so do a 2 or 3 hours gate to gate using PFPX and starting

up cold and dark and using ATC etc. I am never going to do that in real life.

In that case its a game. For those of you doing the same thing I am, who are young enough

to perhaps some day do the same thing it real life its also a game because by the time you are doing it

for real you will be calling it a game. Those $10m simulators at airports and the like are simulator

because the people who use them then go out do the same thing in reality that's why they are simulators.

When on occasion they let Joe public in to have a go at landing and the like, then they are $10m games :P

Time to come back to reality.

The funniest thing here is that game and or simulator is in fact one of the same in today's industry. A lot on here are acting like its 1984, and theirs this big black and white line between game and sim.

Guys, that line broke down many many many years ago and was replaced by digital entertainment - via console, computer, smartphone, tablet and smart TV + a shed load more gadgets and devices to provide entertainment and real world application often all in one.

Is it a hammer or a screw driver?

I'll wager you that at some point most have applied it as a hammer but in the end, it's still a screw driver.

You can't change that fact.

Since MS wants to make money selling its wares, it markets its flight simulator (FSX) as a game.  I bet there are far more copies of FSX collecting dust on shelves in homes than in active use for this reason:  hey this FSX 'game' looks like it could be fun...oh crud it's really only a boring sim.  This is what killed Flight IMO: that idiot Ballmer running MS actually believed it WAS a game.

You are absolutely correct. Classic case of a CEO out of touch with both customers and his own products.

If I guess right, will it run better on my pc?

   :LMAO:

Whether it is indeed a simulator has everything to do with the architecture and absolutely nothing to do with how you choose to use it. If you think you are playing a game and would be playing a game on a Level D, then good for you. Pay your $50 and off you go.

If it's a game, what's it like on frames? We know what it's like on frames as a simulator.

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

Well after you pay your $50 and you are finished your turn in the Level D what are you doing next?

Nothing that even remotely resembles what you where doing in the Level D I beat!

I have enjoyed this thread like none other. Philosophical question of the ages. where is the mountian that little bearded wise man sits atop?

FSX is not a game. Posting and reading forums is in fact a game!
