P3D 2.1 - ALL current issues fixed, patch is on final

Featured Replies

Any chance we could stop discussing the shape of the moon and get back on topic?

Sorry.

...manufacturer will repair for free...

I don't see LM charging for the patch. I'm not advocating buying software that you know won't work for you, just to be clear, nor am I defending LM other than to point out that they seem genuine. But as to the analogy, we will have to agree to disagree.

It still feels surreal to me that a sim that looks and feels just like FSX (but isn't!) is getting official and tangible updates.

Every time I check those changelogs it's like christmas morning all over.

I'm stoked!

Every day that passes without a 100 MB file to download makes me a bit less patient! P3D2 is the first flightsim I've used since FS9 that has not crashed at all during a flight; I hope that P3D2.1 will continue this awesome performance. The only bug that has had me hoping for an update is the inability of the Flight Planner to read a high-altitude flight-plan; this affects both ATC and the non-payware civil aircraft. Unfortunately, I have seen no hint in LM's bug list that promises that this issue will have been dealt-with by the update. We'll see, soon I hope.

Although P3D2 should have undergone a bit more testing, LM has done a massive amount of work that will ultimately make P3D the best flightsim ever. Replacing so much (probably ugly) code took a great deal of courage and skill. My hat is off to them.

Does anyone if the water is fixed?

What issues do you have with the water?

.......... Loooooong landing.......

It seems no one really has any idea when the patch is going to be released.  We are now going into the third week beyond the "...patch is on final" forecast release date.  I keep checking this thread for news of the pending update (it's not much use checking the LM P3d site, where the latest "news" item is dated the 19th November).  Perhaps we should just be quiet and not complain (yes I know, it is just a hobby), but I have the feeling that the delay in the LM patch release is also holding up the ORBX Europe OpenLC and perhaps other ORBX releases, which are waiting for the patch technical parameters so that ORBX can develop triple installers.

My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB  DDR4  RAMNoctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel     Sims: MSFS2020      Preferred Aircraft  Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049

It´s not just holding the ORBX products, but also the Active Sky and FSGRW updates to 2.1 and all other developers and their products I think,

Meanwhile our own Orb keeps turning ... ;-)

What issues do you have with the water?

You can't be serious, right?  No, you can't be.

LM admit that it's a 'work in progress'. At the moment it looks like a kind of greasy radioactive sludge that eats fps while actually detracting from the immersion factor.  Definitely water that has been 'passed by the management.'

But if you really do find it acceptable that's fine with me, no offence intended. Each to his own.  :LMAO:

You can make the water look decent by making sure that tesselation is set to a high value, mesh at 1m, water at Ultra and using REX 4 textures and animations. With a little bit of experimenting you can reduce the P3d2 settings and still get good results.

The water in P3d2 is coded using a 3rd party SDK authored by the same company that wrote Skymaxx Pro for XP10. That's probably why LM considered it a "work in progress", since they may need to tinker with their use of the SDK.

...it's not much use checking the LM P3d site, where the latest "news" item is dated the 19th November...

The Lockheed Martin's  latest news in the forums is in the sticky dated [PREPAR3D v2.1 UPDATE - ISSUES RESOLVED LIST - UPDATED 02/05]

"19th November..." ...... would that be the LM "sales" site" not the LM forum?

Thanks for the tips jabloomf and the inside gen. At present the water in fsx beats it hands down imo, but I'll reserve judgement. I did try the P3D low level swell effect when v2 was first released and was sort of impressed with that. But once you gained some altitude it reverted to the ridged candle-wax look. The fixes can't be far away but I didn't see a water upgrade mentioned. All in good time I'm sure. Regards,

Yes I'm serious.

As jabloomf1230 noted, mesh needs to at 1m, water settings at ultra and tesselation at medium or higher to get a good looking wave action.

The biggest caveat I'll add is that I'm using REX4. This is what it looks like for me using the "cinematic" set:
