Before I plonk down $90 for VOXATC

Featured Replies

I decided to get VOXATC.

My question is; what do I need to watch for or concern myself with VOXATC and Ultimate Traffic 2?

Terrible UI and confusing manual ;) and definitely lot of reading and repeating prepared scenario of phrases.

Try the demo first. Lot of people loves it I couldn't convince myself and demo convinced me not to go this way.

You need some time to read the manuals in order to learn how to set everything in the right way before each flight. There are couple of tools to be started and configured before each flight, if you want VOX ATC to work without errors. It's a little bit complicated until you learn the procedure.

It works ok for me, but i'm not used it for a while becouse of VATSIM.

It works with UT2, but VOX ATC will use UT2 planes for AI Traffic like FSinn - AI traffic will not be injected like by UT2 and will not fly real routes.

VOXATC works with UT2 ... But ... Expect LOTS of UT2's Deadalus painted aircraft, not really VOX's fault its UT2... They are injected when the correct livery cant be found, MyTraffic X 2013 is my pref for AI.

I think you my need AI Bridge (VOXATC download - should find it via a google search) for VOXATC to read the UT2 traffic duno if the latest version has been updated for UT2.

Vox is deff the most realistic and adds to the whole experance as real life.

Try the free demo.

Like Zeljko says "You need some time to read the manuals in order to learn how to set everything in the right way before each flight." When you master it, it's a very immersive virtual Atc.

It evoluate/update, it's no more the RC4 case.

It manage under certain conditions SID and STAR.

It manage the taxi phases (holding to cross runways...etc..and so).

No problem with UT2 or My Traffic X Pro AI.

And Btw have a look in the VoxAtc forum where there are many answers to questions about the program.

I would get the demo and make sure it is exactly what I need for ATC, then factor in the cost of extra voices although you can add these over time if you really get to like VoxATC.

It's a pity that RC4.3 and PFE do not have demos available because Youtube videos do not really do them justice.

There is a fair review of RC4 here: http://www.mutleyshangar.com/features/jda/rc4.htm.

I am sure you will be happy with Vox though, you dodged a bullet when you decided against ProATC.

There is a very big plus with VOX and that is, it is still being updated from time to time, whereas RC4 & PFE are not. I am not criticizing them but merely pointing out that what you see is what you get as developement is now stopped I believe. As mentioned in the other posts, there is a bit of a learning curv to VOX and the voice recognition training etc is a prerequisite, however once you have things set up and you get the hang of it, I believe you won't look back.

I do know that RC4 is still being supported through its forum here on AVSIM though.

Regards,

Edit: You should maybe stick this post in the AVSIM - VOX forum also and you might get a few more opinions.

Couple words of advice:

- Train, train, train. Do the VoxATC general training and flight plan specific training. It increases the recognition rate considerably.

- Change the interface font. I use one called Quartz (10 pt) and it looks great. Even a fixed pitch like Courier New is an upgrade over the blocky Ariel.

- Get more voices. Win7 users like me only get MS Anna and she leaves something to be desired.

As for traffic, like the others I use MyTraffic X and it works wonderfully. AI in correct liveries at every airport I visit.

You'll be making the right choice with VoxATC.

It was because of your comments mainly (others also) on another thread that I decided to go with VOXATC.

I get from your comment that updated flight schedules are a waste then?

yeah that is correct... i use it with ut2 .. voxatc generates it's own traffic using the ut2 models, but it ignores the schedules and stuff, it basically just populates the airport with planes. it does use liveries that make sense for the airports, not sure where it gets that info from or how it works but it does fairly well.

you can avoid the daedulus liveries with one of the options in ut2, there is a checkbox around in the options that makes it ignore them.

the utility mentioned that you need to connect them is called ut2bridge.exe i think it just installed into the vox directory when i installed vox, although my recollection on this is foggy.. if it isn't there it should be pretty easy to find on the vox site though..

I have vox and honestly I do not use it anymore as all my flying is done online. Vatsim is much much better. I'm able to find decent coverage during peak times. Vox would crash on me right before landing at certain airports and really broke the immersion. That being said there are worse atc choices and at least vox will give you stars to fly.

I believe you mentioned in the ProATC thread (May have been someone else) that you preferred button control for ATC. If that's the case, then you should be aware, if you aren't already, that VOXATC is voice control only (That I'm aware of)

Thanks

That is not the case. One can avoid Daedalus aircraft by generating the traffic file In UT2, with a 'non-Daedalus' option ticked, and then getting VOXATC to use that traffic file with UT2Bridge.

I'm a great fan of VOXATC, using it in P3DV2. It has many unsung benefits, including its intelligent use of multiple runways in complex airports, which doesn't really come across in the documentation.

I use it as button control only. Works very well.

If you have not already done so, you really need to download and live with the Demo for the 7 days that it allows.

If my memory serves you then simply enter your registration into the demo if you go ahead purchase the software.

http://www.voxatc.com/Home.aspx/Download.

I have in the past bought VoXATC for both FS9 and FSX but found the voices to be repetetive (I could only afford a couple of 3rd party voices back then).

VoxATC is also not able to run over a network which is important to me and is very intensive as far as interacting with speech.

I much prefer RC4 for is reliability and the ability to run networked, I voice control it using VAC http://www.dwvac.com/ but you can also use http://www.itsyourplane.com/ or http://www.multicrewxp.com/ to talk to it.

I bought my RC4 disk in 2005 and have used it every flight since apart from when I use Proflight Emulator for a change of pace, now thats value for money in my book.
