DoveTail Games Buys Licensing Deal with Microsoft

I think FSX was part of a package deal MS forced upon them.. I think in reality.. FSX will be their lose leader while they prepare and re-package what was once MS Flight and make it their own to start DLC SweatShop #2.. And if you know the content they produce for trains, you'll know in house DTG planes will most likely have no functional switches except the ut-most basics to put a plane in the air.

Fine by me, as long as they also allow 3d party DLC

They will more than likely rollout red carpets for 3PD.. It's how they make money for TS 2014.. They have a "Partner Program" in play for it... ie: If you're really good at producing content.. They'll package it up, distribute it for you through Steam etc, cut you a percentage and pocket the rest.. Downside is that content is now theirs to do whatever with and you don't technically own it anymore but will make $$$

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

Sounds very much like Microsoft then.

Yes, but at least with FSX the planes didn't cost extra... You'll pay $20 for a low quality and minimal detail plane with their way, and then another $5 for a different livery

I can make a Dovetail support banner for anyone who would like it for their signature block :p0504: The Logo  T-Shirts should be ready in a few days followed by coffee mugs and condoms. :LMAO:

Coincidence that Steve's DX10 Fixer was removed shortly before this FSX deal? Perhaps they are in discussions and will incorporate the DX10 Fixer into this new FSX Steam release.

Umm...  Does use of the last item constitute DLC?

Indeed, most curious.

Who knows!! I have enjoyed this thread....a lot of funny stuff for sure. I have thought about this whole thing for a bit and here is my prediction. From the first announcement from Tom about this whole deal it has been a puzzle to me as to why any company would buy FSX....old code and plenty of problems and maybe also "Flight" which has been a looser from the day that Dev's started to leak out what MS was pulling. Just really a looser from the beginning. Now to me, the only likely thing this Dovetail outfit can do to generate a return for their investment would be to market something like "Flight" but in a even more dumbed down version for say the 6year old to 12 year old kids along with "addons" with flying machines for Batman, Superman and other types of Super heroes. Guys dream all you want but the code for  this software is now years behind X plane or P3D etc. It does not make sense to try and catch up.

Not sure that's even possible...?

As someone who doesn't spend a ton of time on the forums, and who prefers to fly and sim more than discuss it, I do have to say that many of the members of this community are the prototypical examples of "the glass is half empty" personalities.

I remember 10 years ago and the discussions around FS9, and the people who were never moving from FS2002, and all the flaws of FS9 and the performance challenges.   I remember the people who lambasted the Microsoft team about everything to do with FSX, and who swore they would never move off of FS9 (they were probably the same people who were never leaving FS2002 behind).   You had the conspiracy people with regard to XP SP1 and the accompanying security changes.   There were the people who knocked Vista, then were never moving to Windows 7 and they would have to pry Windows XP from their cold, dead fingers.   Then the "tragedy" of Windows 8 happened, and now it's Windows 7 forever.

It's just amusing the conculusions that get jumped to, and in every event there is a black cloud to be saved from every silver lining.   :-)

Sir, you are correct. Some see half empty and some see half-full and then sometimes you have to depend on common sense and past experience.

It is really a matter of 2 groups of people:  those who trust that human nature is usually good intentioned and those who do not.

It bears repeating.. This company has a 7 year history. Many in here including myself have much experience in dealing with Dovetail.  It's not so much as jumping to conclusions as it's easy for people who have delt with them for 7 years to connect the dots of how they'll handle this.  Dovetails actions have been 100% predictable for 7 years.  They never deviated from their course.. They are 100% about over promising and under delivering with catchy buzzword filled press releases and marketing hype.

If it quacks like a duck etc.

Cannot agree entirely with that. The "flight dynamics engine" of MS Flight is an improved version of the FSX engine, whereas P3D is still using the old FDE. But the MS Flight code certainly isn't 64 bit, and I doubt Dovetail has any plans (or the capability for that matter) to convert it to 64 bit.
