FSX STEAM OR WAIT FOR P3D 64BIT?

Featured Replies

Since we are on opinions. I guess you could say, seems there was and is way too much pushing the P3D agenda for all the more benefits it provides for us casual simmers.. Pick whatever game you want and leave the rest to their own decisions.

Trying to find a way to reduce the workload on Pete was discussed. Pete had some suggestions on how that might be done. We shall see what happens!

Here's hoping for a positive outcome from that discussion, No Fsuipc and FSX-SE dies on the vine as far as I am concerned, my hardware will not work without it. It really is the cornerstone of my entire setup.

More worrying is that it seems LM are too busy to talk to Peter these days.

I am quietly encouraged though with what I read in that thread, The Dovetail folks seem very open to dialog.

Along the "no FSUIPC" lines, Pete recently mentioned that he is now well over 71,  and so someone asked him if he has anyone in mind to take over FSUIPC when he retires. Pete said no, and that would be a hard task since he stopped putting comments in his code years ago.  Makes one think a bit.

I cannot get my PMDG or QW aircraft to install on Steam..probably cuz I am not a computer guru....but I can fly the default Cessna 172 around the FSX-Steam just fine and the sim is very smooth...but MY FSX is running great also so I use it....and will continue to use the old FSX until it dies...lol...al v

I cannot load my PMDG planes or my Ouality Wings 757 into Steam...but I am not a techie with computers ...just like to fly the planes... They run beautifully in my FSX Gold...

Steam.exe on thebackground takes 35% of CPU usage.

Please guys dont tell me it will not affect the performance.

Then just close down steam.exe.

It will not affect performance either way.

Going to wait until I see a review or bench mark with pmdg 777 300ER once compatible and quite a few addons included on a long haul flight 15hrs or so and see how VAS is monitored and if successful without OOM I may consider getting FSX STEAM

A lot of talk about great VAS usage on FSX STEAM

This. This is the only thing I hear but I've only read one real example. Others just throw it out in the air. Please do understand, fellow simmers, that claiming that VAS usage is positively affected and actually drops/flushes on the go, without seriously backing it up with videos/screenshots is plain torture to others (who's stuck in a home without computer cause he's on christmas holiday  )

i truly think that VAS on normal ops with all add on , eg. fs global vector , payware airports , rex text , mesh etc is fix ..

i've been flying for 3 days wth out restarting FSX SE.

VAS is always climbing up after departure , did multiple leg , back and forth etc ...

for the none believer your truly missing out on this ,

FPS is about the same has p3d 2.4

with the awsome , Stevefx d 10 fixer 2.6 and steve NI seting lock at 30 fps , unlimited in sim ...

flying CS 777

LOD 6.5

i7 4777k 4.6mhz, 32gddr3, GTX 760 4g sci ,Saitek x52,yoke and quadrant, 60 Led . SSD

At last,

A wise and usefull comment from Pete....

Lots of debates here going on here about a re-branded FSX vs FSX:SE...lots of good points, I just think the more market share the product FSX captures, in whichever form, is a hopefully a win-win for the FS community in general.

The need to get the young & next generation simmers introduced can hopefully help survived the ever tight & profit driven market of entertainment software...heck, I do hope the "Call of Duty" and other FPS gamers would somehow discover FSX and realized there is more to life than FPS...my $0.02...

I could do it but I don't have the time.

How do cloud shadows, tessellation, HDR, an volumetric fog look in FSX:SE? ;)

Cheers, Rob.

With Asn for weather, Steve Dx10 fixer Rex direct and Shade all installed and all running on a new Asus 4k resolution monitor it looks absolutely stunning Rob thanks, and with unlimited frames runs smooth as silk too, Unlike P3d with its cloud issues and terrible frames when all Shadows turned on. Oh well I'm off for a flight in my PMDG 777 how about you!!. Oh well you've always got your Cessna. Cheers Rob.

My CS 777 with wireless CDU is working great thanks. Didn't realize PMDG 777 worked in FSX:SE - pretty sure robert R. Indicated 777 for P3D then for FSX:SE (in that order).

I'm Smooth as silk too in P3D, no cloud issues for me with update from LM. How are FSX updates coming along? :)

I enjoyed DX10 fixer also in FSX, great work by Steve. But DX10 can't make cloud shadows, HDR native, tessellation, etc. - assume that's why you avoided answering the question even though you quoted it.

Yes I'm enjoying the A2A C182 also, and the A320, and the Q400 and QW BAE146 and the Cherokee and TwinOtter and the Lear 24b and the Milviz 530F and the Carenado Seneca and the PC12 and the b1900 and the Metroliner and the... :)

Cheers Rob

Has the issue of shifting VC viewpoint been fixed in FSX-SE? It's the most annoying thing in FSX & P3D.

An easy test is to just to locate something like a 777 in Singapore and taxi around in circles, if the VC viewpoint shifts as the aircraft turns it's not fixed.
