January 30, 201511 yr I can not see them addressing anything,I wonder if they realize what a large amount of knowledge regarding flightsim,s and it,s issue,s reside,s in such a small bunch of sometime onery people,P3d seemed to have been able to cleverly utilize this source of knowledge, but then the are looking at a different market, make me think i am lucky to be able to join the LM p3d club and the devs should also be happy that they can join in without any financial issue,s,anyway Mr Milviz as there are two of the star performers here, when is that wonderful/beautiful king Air 350 going to be finished for P3D peter
January 30, 201511 yr Commercial Member My goodness. EVERYWHERE I go there's the KA. It's in alpha and works in P3D for most at this time. Please contact oisin at milviz dot com for forum registration information. Please provide proof of purchase if you want support. Also, include the username you wish to have.
January 30, 201511 yr My goodness. EVERYWHERE I go there's the KA. It's in alpha and works in P3D for most at this time. Looks like a great B350! Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
January 30, 201511 yr But DTG's interests are not those of the flight sim community? Looks like you had to spell it out in the end, doesn't it? I'm constantly amazed at the amount of wishful thinking and plain naïveté as regards the whole DTG affair. I mean, it's partly understandable since people in our little niche are accustomed to vendors and distributors like A2A, RealAir, PMDG, Orbx, Flight1, Aerosoft and so on. Regardless of their differences, they share one common thing: they are all aviation enthusiasts who turned their passion into successful business ventures, and as such, their thinking is generally in line with that of the 'flight sim community' at large. The same doesn't apply to DTG, though, does it? Yes - to make money from the flight sim community (or any one) for its private investors. Precisely. Their sole goal is to maximize profit, and flight simming just happens to be one of the areas they chose to exploit. And as such, they will follow the lead of the EAs and Ubisofts of the gaming world: focusing on mainstream products with a wide appeal and low development/support overhead, causing hardcore simmers (as was the case with gamers: when was the last time you saw a good non-MMO strategy game from a major publisher, for example?) to slowly die away or move to more niche platforms. And before someone repeats the "they must know what happened with MS Flight" mantra, please remember that DTG has the brute force of Steam behind them, an established platform used by millions, and I'm pretty sure they'll be able to secure a much more steady stream of "play once and forget" add-ons to keep people happy. Just my 2 cents. Tym
January 30, 201511 yr Tym At last some realism. People need to get out of their flight simuator bubble and look at the big world outside. Gerry Howard
January 30, 201511 yr None of us are under any illusion that DTG do what they do primarily because they want to make money. What some of us are trying to say is.....will it work with the flight simulation community? Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
January 30, 201511 yr What some of us are trying to say is.....will it work with the flight simulation community? Will they need to? I think we all tend to overestimate the size of the community, and it may in fact be easier to grow a new customer base than to accommodate the existing community, which is rather fickle and demanding... Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I've simply seen this happen in other areas of the gaming market. Tym
January 30, 201511 yr It didn't work with MS Flight, although I suppose you could argue that Microsoft didn't have the vast STEAM userbase on tap. Maybe that really will be enough? Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
January 30, 201511 yr I think Steam will be enough for DTG...they won't need the hardcore flightsim community imo. I find myself buying crap stuff (obviously not knowing that when I bought it) on Steam just because it is easy and cheap. Tym has summed everything up pretty well. You can't underestimate the power of Steam. Ryan
January 30, 201511 yr Maybe they only want the softcore market.. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
January 30, 201511 yr So, their interests lie? Yes, flight swimming is new for them, apart from X-Plane. But that's another story. What connection or interest does DTG have with X-Plane. None that I can see but feel free to educate us.
January 30, 201511 yr For those that would like to be educated, the connection that DTG, thru Steam, has in X-Plane, is that they distribute a 64bit version of X-Plane 10! Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
January 30, 201511 yr I think we all tend to overestimate the size of the community, Two iinteresting posts from a thread on Flight project cancelled/on hold in the Microsoft FLIGHT Archive. Orbx, on 06 Sept 2011 - 9:36 PM, said: We estimate less than 40,000 active FS enthusiasts worldwide, across both the tube liner and VFR disciplines. We know this purely from tracking our sales data and also being aware of other developer's sales data which they share with us. Please don't use the number of registrations at AVSIM, Flightsim.com or other forums as any indication of the community size. That is a totally false assumption. The community is based on what they purchase, and 99.95% of FS enthusiasts purchase add ons for their sim, as well as enjoying the plethora of freeware available. mgh on 05 October 2011 - 04:00 PM said AVSIM's Forums have about 75,560 (3778 pages each with 20 members). Of those 54,640 have never posted and could be regarded as inactive members. That leaves only 20,920 members who have actually posted at least once. This suggests only 27% of members are active. It seems possible that Orbx's figures are in the correct ball-park. (Note that was before the format of AVSIM forums changed) To re-iterate, ORBX estimated that there were were only about 40,000 active FS enthusiasts worldwide. I showed that only 20,920 active members of AVSIM who were defined by posting at least once a year. I'm certain we under-estimate the size of the community and its wider influence. Gerry Howard
January 30, 201511 yr the connection that DTG, thru Steam, has in X-Plane, is that they distribute a 64bit version of X-Plane 10! So no connection other than they sell through the same online distributor. I will rephrase it, what interest does DTG have in Xplane, a flight simulator made by the totally unconnected Laminar Research ?
