FSX and P3D are limited 32-bit programs with 2GB RAM limits and I don't see anything much in their future.

Patently false. You get the award for the day and it isn't a good one.

I have followed them a little bit on social media. They talk a lot and release very little. Common sense would suggest, developing for all three platforms, FSX and P3D not being very different. This is the approach that some of the more established developers are taking. Whilst aircraft development may require a different skillset for X-Plane and the ESP sims, scenery (and I am not an expert) I would imagine, is not radically different.

Never heard of them to be honest so no great loss for me at least :)

From EGFF to YSSY

I agree with the award for the "stupid statement of the day". Do some research, read Lockheed Martin's statements on this (publicly stated on their website), before you utter nonsense like this. I sincerely wish people will stop making statements about 32 vs 64 bit when they clearly do not know what they are talking about...

I'm referring to mdavis's statement.

32 bit or 64 bit is not what you should use to make a decision on regarding flight sims. Just use what works best for you.

In my case, X-plane is the clear winner. P3d/FSX gives me stutters and blurry scenery after 15 mins of flying. It was good for its time, but just doesn't look that good to me anymore. Spent lots of money on FSX/P3d, more than I care to admit, but It just never worked all that well.  XP with addons and mods Looks and runs fantastic for me. No need to spend anymore time with anything else.

As for this developers comments on moving to FSX\P3d, that's fine with me and I wish them luck. Never heard of them either, so I guess that's part of the reason they are leaving XP. Hopefully They will make their presence better known in FSX, otherwise they wont sell much there either. However, I Still think this is an April fool joke.

Well, you don't even need to read any statement from LM; a "2GB RAM limit" is incorrect for two reasons given a 32-bit application. For one, it's VAS--not RAM--and secondly, it's a 3GB limit in a 32-bit version of Windows and 4GB in a 64-bit version of Windows.

From their Facebook page:

"

Thanks for being a great sport of yesterday's April fool statement. To clarify, the team is not going to develop for MSFS or Prepar3D, we will still be developing sceneries for the X-Plane Community.

Now on to my next point, and this is in my personal perspective and does not represent the whole team (can apply to all of us):
I have discovered something else during this slight fiasco, particularly about our product release scheduling and our frequency of posting updates, in a thread about us below. As a freeware development group (currently), we obviously spend our spare time to develop sceneries for you followers to enjoy, and that results in a much slower and longer development duration, our payware projects are also made when we have free time. Since the announcement to stop posting frequent updates we have indeed stopped posting updates until something significant is completed. Another factor contributing to our slow roll out of our sceneries and updates is that our standards are very high, we strive to deliver a perfected product polished and complete with details in every corner, we do not take quantity over quality.

I quote from a gentleman, the CEO of TFDi Design's statement which also applies to the X-Plane community:

"Over the last few years, I've seen this community turn 180 degrees in the other direction."

"Users are publicly demanding. Users expect those who donate their time (or work for a profit that does not match the effort put in) to operate at a super-human level, but do not appreciate it. I also find that people are too hasty in their assumptions, too severe with their decisions, and intolerant and unforgiving towards others with different opinions."

Thanks for your time reading this post and I hope you understand.

Kindest regards,
Peter Tram"

For those who don't know them/think they aren't a great loss... (Yeah a know it's a joke and they aren't going anywhere)

They are one of the best quality developers out there IMO, they release free airports , and they are working on some payware ones , and not many developers (in any platform) can achieve this level of detail (especially in terms of ground work)

4GB VAS limit, let's stick to the facts

For those who don't know them/think they aren't a great loss...

Exactly my thoughts after reading through this thread. To me AB was one of the very first to bring FSX airport scenery quality to X-Plane. Their Portoroz scenery is one of the very best freeware i have ever seen. Waiting patiently for their VHHH...

Although we, at FSFX Packages, are developing for FSX & P3D right now, we will inevitably make the switch to X-Plane someday. I'd like to thank you guys for shaping the future of the platform and laying a path forward for others to follow.

Continue your good work guys! We really need it!

Aerobridge is definitely one of the best developers for X-Plane right now. For those that hadn't heard about them before, they have already released KCGX and LJPZ.

A 32-bit program in a 32-bit OS is limited to 2GB of RAM.  On a 64-bit system, if the program is properly coded for virtual memory space, it can stretch to up to twice that.  But FSX is dead and not being updated to 64-bits unless P3D is planning on rewriting the whole thing.  But P3D is not intended for commercial gaming, so those who are using it as such are technically in violation of the EULA.  64-bit programs (neither of which FSX or P3D fit the category) can use up to 64GB of RAM.

So I stand by my comment.  FSX and P3D are 32-bit programs and RAM-limited - a fact.

And "I don't see anything much in their future" is a personal opinion and as such is also a true representation of my views.  Neither of those statements is contestable.  While some may see a future for FSX/P3D, I do not because I have personally abandoned them, or in the case of P3D have not attempted to violate their terms and conditions by adding it to my system.  That is yet another fact.
