P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense

Featured Replies

So, basically we have no idea what so ever what improvements 3.0 will bring.

We do have some indications, but "unofficially". It has been said from a number of beta testers that it will be:

32 bit

DX11

Have VAS management improvements surpassing even those of FSX Steam

Have some general performance enhancements (what specifically has not been stated)

Will break some compatibility for Devs that have not prepared themselves

Will be a new purchase

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

Probably the smartest posting in this thread!

Small bit of hoping/speculation

Will V3 bring the window rain effects onto the default planes?  Or maybe as we have more computing power developers will code it into the Payware stuff,  from what i gather these effects that were present in FS9 were removed in FSX and so on into P3D.   Would love to see it back again.

Question

Before 1.4 and V2 was released was there many teasers and videos showcased before the actually released date was given?  If so how long did it take for the release date to be announced after the video/pics showcasing were show

Well it looks like everybody can be happy that P3D V3 will be DX11. The first tests of a DX12 game and Nvidia tanked against AMD :)

It seems current NVIDIA GPU's only fully support DX12 on paper as the maxwell chip is incapable of async computing, so lets see where this is heading :D

Something I find interesting is that with DirectX 10 it was claimed that moving forward would require new video card purchases for each release of DirectX for actual compatibility (vs software emulation). Has this actually changed?

I believe that rain effects are a FPS hog, which probably many people would turn off anyway.

I have rain effects on many planes from different devs and none of them show any fps decrease at all when active in FSX SE.

In fact rain effect is what I base my buying decisions on when looking for a new plane. Also thinking of going to XPlane as rain effects are quite common in that sim.

This is somewhat offtopic because its related to x-plane, but in x-plane mobile they added a particle system that is capable of running on an ipad without any performance issues. This will be integrated into x-plane aswell. The reason i am saying this here is mainly that a nativley supported particle system inside the sim (be it P3D or XPlane) can be developed without any sort of perfomance issues at all.

Oh no! Rumor has it that the odd releases are to be avoided! v2.4 was not so good, v2.5 good, v3????

(Just like Windows?) lol!

Particle systems never come for free ... the more realistic you make the particle based effect the harder it will be on performance regardless of sim platform used ... be it shader based or otherwise.  This is easy enough to test in P3D using the FXTool (part of the SDK) and make your own particle FX ... you can easily overwhelm a GPU or multiple GPUs if you spread the effects distance and number of emitters.

The folks at PreciptFX have done a very good job at managing the FX they use/change to work with FSX/P3D ... especially the rain and snow and turbine/prop wash wheel spray etc. etc.

But rain on the aircraft windshield will also be in the hands of the aircraft developer as it should be ... they control the VC from reflections, bug splats, wipers, etc. etc. ... I am surprised more 3rd party aircraft devs haven't taken on the rain/snow of VC task similar to what the RealAir folks have done on their aircraft.

Cheers, Rob.

LOL Pretty much. Over 200 posts of pure speculation.

Oh of course, it always comes at a trade-off. I guess i should have clarified it abit more in the post. It was more as a reply to it being a resource hog. :) I think that alot of that assumption comes from the old days where GPU where not that capable and had different possiblites like physx particles to be offloaded to the GPU. Ususally the CPU is the Bottleneck in a flighsim and every effect that can be offloaded to a GPU (providing the sim uses this function) will provide the effect at a relative small cost compared to the old days.  Thats what i meant with that comment :)

See post #2 of this thread.

Amen to that.

Mods, perhaps we can now re-title the thread from 'P3D News', of which there is none, to 'P3D Idle Speculation', of which there is plenty, if not rather too much ?

Just a thought !

Louis how would we be spending this time if this post was locked or non existent???  madness!!!!!!!! our brains would be boilig due to the hyperactivity cause by  anxiety... this type of post actually helps keep us all sane... leave it be...
