October 28, 201510 yr Hi, I've been running three 75" 4K UHDTV's at 12288x2160x32 and sit about three feet away... I LOVE IT. October 28, 201510 yr @Mike, Which UHD HDTVs do you use (many UHD models cannot be driven at 4:4:4 color which is required for good small text use) and can one Nv980 drive them or does it take more? What kind of FPS do you get - I was running three 22" monitors and getting 40 fps or so with medium settings - do you use NvSurround or three separate views (which I do)? I was going to try out a single Samsung curved 65" 4K tv close up but came across Dan Church's FlyInside software and the Oculus Rift with amazing 360 degree and "lean-in" head tracking with stereo virtual cockpits that feel full size. I am also using Multi Crew Experience speech recognition to set a lot of the PMDG 777 knobs and switches with a virtual copilot that talks back. The resolution isn't quite as high as I would like but the feeling of being surrounded by the cockpit and the real sense of flying in hilly 3D terrain - especially the Grand Canyon in an F-22 or the new H60 helicopter is very nice. Dave PC=9700K@5Ghz+RTX2070 VR=HP Reverb| Software = Windows 10 | Flight SIms = P3D, CAP2, DCS World, IL-2, Aerofly FS2
October 28, 201510 yr I'm now torn between big screen vs Oculus Rift. OR gives fantastic immersion feeling - everything is just real and life sized, but the resolution sucks a big time. I have their DK2 and I was royally p***ed to hear the consumer version of Oculus Rift is only of slightly higher resolution at 1280x1080 per eye (DK2 is 960x1080 per eye). This low resolution absolutely ruins flight experiences after the novelty feeling of VR become sth you're just used to. There is already 4K screen on phones so there is no excuse Oculus couldn't make their consumer version 4K... On the other hand, high quality 1080p projectors are becoming so cheap. I bought a Optoma GT1080 for my living room for less than $700 and its video quality is excellent, certainly way more than enough for flightsims. I can buy three of these for the price less than a big 4K TV. Of course, the space and arrangement of three projectors become a problem.. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
October 28, 201510 yr I bought one of these "Samsung JU6500 Series 40" UHD 4K LED Smart TV" a couple weeks ago on sale for $848.00 cad to replace my 1080p Absolutely love it Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com
October 28, 201510 yr I'm on a cheap Seiki 65“ 4K TV right now. But I think its picture quality is jarring me more and more that I began to miss my previous 1080P LG plasma. 4K is the way to go though, absolutely. If I don't go down the road of projectors or Oculus, I want to have a curved 4K TV. I just did some search and it seems Samsung JU7500 series ticks all the boxes: 4:4:4 @ 4K and 21ms input lag. The price is not cheap but not as high as Samsung's higher tier TVs. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
October 28, 201510 yr Swiesma, Can I ask you some questions about your setup with that monitor? What video card or cards (SLI?) are you using to push 4K? Are you using Display Port 1.2 cable? Are you running 30hz or 60 hz at that resolution? what are your average FPS. I am interested in that monitor as well. Thanks for any help. October 28, 201510 yr Author Why are you using TV's instead of Monitors? Dual purpose... besides I personally like them. Plus, buying a "monitor" is like buying a "corvette" part. Have 5 year old 23 inch LG monitor. It looks very good to me. However, logic tells me it might not be so good beside a newer technology monitor. The only way to tell is buy a new one. Very expensive fringe monitors are way beyond my means. Yes I would like more pixels on a larger screen. I think I will have to settle for a 1080p 28 inch monitor or a 32 inch 1080p TV. The 32 inch TV may be too large. I was concerned about my "ordinary" office type tasks - actually reading info on the screen, with the pixels bigger and spread out.on a a larger screen. So, I used my Chromecast to send a spreadsheet from my PC to my 3 year old 42" TV. At my normal viewing range of about 8 feet it was quite readable/usable. I may have to sit 3 or 4 feet from a 32 inch TV to not be staring at individual pixels. A normal desk won't do so the TV has another issue. I have not decided given the failure rates, messed up screens, etc. of today's electronics I have the problem of returning dead pixels, stuck pixels, light bleed, etc. problems. This leads me to at least settle on a local store purchase to avoid the return hassle. Your concern over "type" is not needed. On my 32" I can juggle 3 spreadsheets and a document, type is clear and all are reachable where I'm already looking, don't have to go to the bottom of the screen and click to bring them up. Fonts are not fuzzy or overblown. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's
October 28, 201510 yr Have a look at this Elaine. £525 in the UK. https://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/ROG_SWIFT_PG278Q/ Very nice indeed David. Good specs Resolution is 2560 X 1600. Compare that to an HDTV with a res of 1920 x 1080. That is why a monitor will look much better than a TV, much more detail in the image. Thats the way i was thinking alright, i'm literally siting on top of my monitor (you know what i mean) why not look at this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PXYRMPE?keywords=dell%2032%26%2334%3B%20curved&qid=1446005525&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 This one caught my attention, very good price, looks great. I might treat myself overy Xmas

I am thinking about getting one and pairing it with a 980ti and seeing how that eliminates stutters using G-SYNC in prepar3d.....
October 29, 201510 yr Swiesma, Can I ask you some questions about your setup with that monitor? What video card or cards (SLI?) are you using to push 4K? Are you using Display Port 1.2 cable? Are you running 30hz or 60 hz at that resolution? what are your average FPS. I am interested in that monitor as well. Thanks for any help. Hi mokeiko, Key facts: Core i7 6700k @4,5 GHz + Asus Strix 970 GTX. Guess the rest of the system is not extremely relevant regarding the P3D performance Yes, I am using Display Port 1.2 and run the monitor at 60 Hz. You have to switch it in the OSD after connecting it. With 30 Hz the mouse pointer was really jumpy and the "feeling" was not good at all. But with 60 Hz -> Best monitor I've ever seen. FPS: Well, that clearly depends on the situation. If there is a lot of traffic and in some special weather conditions (e.g. flying through clouds with rain) the FPS can drop to 15 FPS. But with "normal" weather I get at FlyTampa Dubai Rebooted with My Traffic 6 (25% traffic) around 30-50 FPS. The drop in FPS from Full HD to 4k was around 15-40% I would say... But I run almost all sliders to the max. http://i.imgur.com/5wK9X7S.jpg It ain't three 75'' 4k Screens... But I love it anyways  Also playing Diablo 3 on it -> Great! The only downside is: my girlfriend was ot really amused when I told here that I am going to spend 1200€ on a monitor But she's over it!
October 29, 201510 yr 4K is a game changer...much of the sorta settled discussion from as recently as 6 months ago was all related to 1080p TVs. I just replaced the Dell U3011 (30 inch 2560x1600) I was using for side-by-side cockpit flying with a 55" Samsung JS8500 4K TV. There's still another U3011 on the other side of the desk with a HOTAS Warthog setup connected to the same flight sim PC...I can alternate between the two sides depending on if I need a yoke and a wide panel view or a stick and a single-seat view. So I have both monitors side-by-side to compare. The 4K TV and the 30" monitor are both at the same viewing distance of ~39" from screen face to my face. The Dell UHD monitor has the most dense dot-pitch at 101 DPI, and the 4K TV comes in at 81 DPI, close to what I had with the 26" 1920x1200 Samsung I had for years before I got the Dell 30-inchers. You can see some slight pixellation when viewing text in Windows, just as I did on the Samsung 27" that I still use on my daily use PC. In P3D, gauge text is smooth and sharp on the 4K TV, and even while actively trying to find fuzziness or obvious pixellation it's just not apparent--lines and text are clear and sharp. The four foot wide view allows me to get the PMDG 737/777 display units to any easily-readable 90% of life size...on the RealAir Duke I can use the Flight1 GTN750 in-panel with no need to zoom in or use a pop-up. I can get enough of the side view now to give a peripheral sense of speed and height, particularly in the takeoff/landing phase. With the 4K, there is no need to sit way back from the screen as you would with a 1080p at that size. At four feet wide, and 2.5 feet tall, the 4K TV screen is wall-to-wall and treetop tall. It's a really stunning wide perspective that's also far less complex to setup and use than a multi-monitor surround setup with bezel issues to consider, especially if using VC panning/TrackIR etc. I'm driving the 4K with a pair of 980Ti cards in SLI and a 4790K at 4.6GHz. The SLI setup keeps frame rates pinned at 30 fps, even in heavy clouds. October 29, 201510 yr Swiesma and Bob, You guys are making it so hard to resist 4k. I am on the fence with getting G-Sync as well but I'm not sure if it will work with FSX/P3d. I'm watching and reading a lot of reviews and it seems technology is moving so fast that peripherals are getting outdated the minute you purchase something. I am also contemplating SLI with the 980Ti as well but not sure if it will be worth it, but my mouse pointer is on the "add to basket" as I type, lol. This hobby just gets better and better, the immersion factor is just so overwhelming. Thank you for your feedback. Oh, the girlfriend/wife thing. I can totally relate. October 29, 201510 yr Hi, Here are some of my videos using three 75" 4K's at 12288x2160. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqTiCN9u_pvyU9NTqhtgJ9w I run three computers right now. With that said, P3D3 runs on one computer with three Titan X's, the other two are for sim-avionics. One video board to one UHDTV, additional computers will be added in the future, right now I'm running Surround. The tv's are Samsung UN75JU6500F, the three sets were 10K.
