Performance improvements? Numbers, frame rates please.

Hi Paul...I've donned a flak jacket knowing that I may receive incoming for posting this....haha...

I installed the client update without issue last night and spent approx. 1 hr  testing out a few things, I'll share with you what I've observed on my system so far...my specs (6700k @ 4.7Ghz, 980ti, 4K TV, Win 10):

1.  Flying through dense clouds/volumetric fog will still make your GPU want to run away and hide (I tested MSAA 4x and SGSAA 4x @4K with 980ti) stutters like crazy and FPS ~21-25.  With fog off frames improve slightly, still stuttering ~25-28 FPS with the same settings flying through dense clouds.  Flying above or below dense clouds, no stutters, FPS is stable at 30.  From what I understand AA and clouds just don't mix with P3D, never had this issue with FSX.

2.  Dynamic reflections have been fixed.

3.  Ultra water still causes GPU to enter P2 state.

4. Shadow AA seems slightly improved, still notice stair stepping/jagged edges on internal and external aircraft shadows.

I still have yet to test heavy hitting airports/planes/cloud shadows.  I usually start off with default and if I run into performance troubles there then I can only assume it's not going to improve with third party add-ons.  It's always a balance of settings and it remains that way with this update.  I'm content that LM keeps improving P3D.  For me, clouds/shadows seem to be the remaining issue holding performance down.  If/when that gets fixed, it will be hard to pry me away from P3D...ha.

So, overall, I haven't noticed any significant FPS performance gains from the previous version, only fixes, the sim looks good and is stable.  I know a few others are reporting amazing results, I can only speak for my limited observations.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Migration Tool seem`s not to work.

I actualy only had time to load a flight with aerosoft a320 at uk2000 egll v3.0 before i got about 10-15 FPS with UT2 100 % Traffic now i have about 25-30 FPS.

But i use traffic manager which "removes" all but 100 Planes arround me.

Another strange thing i only have UT2 "small" aircrafts no Airbus or Boeings .....

But i think i have to test more. :)

Hi Rich, the .cfg file is still set at 6.5, try changing  the value.

edit it would be nice to know what values we can use.

Sorry for going a bit backwards. Did anyone  notice autogen draw radius improvements? As far as I know LOD (=6.5) does not control autogen distance, neither trees nor buildings, but textures.  As far as I understand, tree autogen can be controlled via

AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=9500.000000

A similar entry for buildings has been missing until 3.1 Has it been added?

Kind regards, Michael

Its been there still is

AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=9500.000000
AUTOGEN_TREE_MIN_DISTANCE_TO_LOD=2500.000000

But you probably know this you can try this also

AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=12000.000000
AUTOGEN_TREE_MIN_DISTANCE_TO_LOD=6500.000000

I use the first mentioned due to 3d lights I am using dont want to blow up my pc  :wink:

Rich-

Thought you used the NI frame limiter according to another thread?

I applied that to my NI last night and had a nice smooth flight but then again there weren't any heavy clouds or weather so we'll see after more flights.

Stop using SGSS AA and retest ... even my two Titan X's can't deal with SGSS AA in dense clouds, nothing can ... setting yourself up for failure.  As posted by myself and others, no need for SGSS AA in V3.2.

Cheers, Rob.

OK, short report: no visible improvement in AA in 3.2. I stay with 8x MSAA and 2 x SGSS NI. But I had to update the content package as well in order to get GSX and SODE windows back to work. The update of the client package was not sufficient. Multicrew Experience and EZDOK (with TrackIR) also work. Just waiting now for ASN or FSGRW for their updates. FSUIPC 4949h, Addon Manager and Couatl are already updated.

Regards,

Chris

No I dont use frame limiter - I run unlimited in P3D also

I will revisit Robs thoughts on NI when I do a new install this weekend

Should Fsuipc appear in the DLL.XML file ?

After having installed v3.2 I reinstalled the latest version but it does not appear in the DLL.XML file...

Hi Gerard,

it will install in c:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\dll.xml

But I have manually moved all entries to c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\dll.xml (same also for exe.xml)

Regards,

Chris
