July 31, 20169 yr Does anyone have an idea of how much hard drive space this installation will take up? Thanx in adv. Jazz It looks like fully installed on disk it's about 17GB. I just sat down with intent to purchase, but after reading this I think I'll wait another week or two. I wouldn't be quite so negative. It'll probably be a day or so until things go truly smoothly, yes, but I managed to download the full package in about 5 hours and get it installed with only minor difficulties waiting for FSS to actually allow me to register it. Initial impressions are very favorable. Here's a quick comparison from downstate a bit: http://imgur.com/a/kAsh3
July 31, 20169 yr Thanks, kaosfere. 17Gb's isn't that bad. BTW, in your screen shots, are you using vector as well? Jazz
July 31, 20169 yr Thanks, kaosfere. 17Gb's isn't that bad. BTW, in your screen shots, are you using vector as well? Jazz Yeah, that's vector with secondary and tertiary roads turned on (but without margins/etc for the minor roads)
July 31, 20169 yr @kaosfere, It looks really good. In a couple more minutes, I'll be able to try it out for myself. Cheers, Jazz
July 31, 20169 yr 6 hours later paid for and cant even sign in never mind download anything You May need to consider upgrading your computer to something a bit faster. Sam Prepar3D V5.3/[email protected]/EVGA 3080 TI/1000W PSU/Windows 10/40" 4K Samsung@3840x2160/ASP3D/ASCA/ORBX/ ChasePlane/General Aviation/Honeycomb Alpha+Bravo/MFG Rudder Pedals/
July 31, 20169 yr to be honest, it took me longer to buy it than it took to download. was trying to access my account from 9:00am to 1:00 Pm EST. then downloaded in less than 2 hrs. I think the FSS site is less able to handle the load than the D/L servers are
July 31, 20169 yr I'll wait to purchase sometime this week. Not a big deal. Of course they don't have Apple or Microsft server capacity. No need to get mad, no need for drama.
July 31, 20169 yr You May need to consider upgrading your computer to something a bit faster. lol good one Rich Sennett
July 31, 20169 yr It looks now like they are limiting logins to one's account, because it takes forever to login to FSS, but once one gets in, the downloads are going at full speed.
July 31, 20169 yr I got parts 1, 3 and 4 in under an hour, been downloading part 2 for 5 hours. Mark CYYZ
July 31, 20169 yr Take a cup of coffee, maybe a beer or a bottle of wine, fly a bit with the rest of the scenery you have installed, enjoy all of your aircraft, have patience and some day within the next couple of weeks you'll have your 13 GB of OpenLC NA, paid and downloaded, and probably you'll not suffer either from the usual teething problems and lots of reports to ORBX forums about scenery not showing, blurries, lakes and rivers where they shouldn't be, etc., etc., during the first weeks. Cheers, Ed The best advice so far!! Read this post just after I opened a bottle of wine and now feel vindicated and chilled, accepting that I won't be flying OpenLC NA today. Bill
July 31, 20169 yr been downloading part 2 for 5 hours. I was having a similar issue. I decided to switch to a different server and re-download part 2. The second download finished in under 30 minutes. I think it wasthe CDN 1 server. On another note, has anyone checked out the new night lighting. In a word, Awesome! Jazz
July 31, 20169 yr Purchasing itself took a smidge longer than usual due to slower page loading times, but my purchase was complete by 4:10 PM local and had all (4) parts downloaded by 6:05 PM local... and I'm in the process of installing. Thankfully, nothing really to complain about here regarding the transaction and downloading process. In fact, it looks like the install just finished... let's see if it's all that it's cracked up to be!
