August 17, 20169 yr Dead end or not, I am having a lot of fun with it. And expectedly will have fun with it during the first year of Prepar3d64 while it's still naked. Factor in the 100+ ORBX sceneries most of which I already owned since FSX times looking much enhanced now, it certainly pays off for me. August 17, 20169 yr Wait for the the 128bit version! Open ended! All your existing stuff will probably not work in a 64bit P3D! It will probably NOT be a free upgrade! Existing P3D add-ons upgraded to 64bit will probably not be free. There probably will be no unicorns. The Holy Grail will NOT be found, not now, not ever. Dead end? with thousands of add-ons available? Yes! Pigs can fly! Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
August 17, 20169 yr What will be really amusing is the people that install the 64 bit version the day it is released, and then scream and holler on this forum that not one of their add ons work...
August 17, 20169 yr Existing P3D add-ons upgraded to 64bit will probably not be free. I don't remember anyone charging for updates when X-Plane went 64 bits. Most of them got it done rather quickly too.
August 17, 20169 yr X-Plane & P3D are like Microsoft & Linux... 2 TOTALLY different sims, 2 TOTALLY different business plans.. Probably! I agree with what Bob says. Now is the time to stock up with popcorn..It's gonna be a fun ride. (or is it flight) Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

August 17, 20169 yr From a March 2016 interview with Adam: "-Is P3D v3 going to be a stable platform for LM moving forward, or will it eventually be replaced or upgraded to v4.0 if new features are added? (Adam): Prepar3D v3 will be a stable platform moving forward, but we plan to start work on major features that will eventually lead to a Prepar3D v4 in the future. Our current primary focus is developing point releases in support of Prepar3D v3." Source: http://www.avsim.com/index.php/_/reviews/review-p3d-by-lockheed-martin-r3486 Sounds like V3.X will be around for quiet some time. I doubt V4 will be around in less than 2 years. I'd Say that V3.X is the End of an era. I doubt if any legacy code will be included in V4. The final version of V3 will be the end of the road for retired regular income guys. V4 will be the sim of choice for these who are relatively new to Flight sim who don't yet have Thousands of $ spent on addons.
August 17, 20169 yr V4 will be the sim of choice for these who are relatively new to Flight sim who don't yet have Thousands of $ spent on addons Bearing in mind P3D is not for entertainment. Maybe the newbies will go for Dovetail's forthcoming sim, after cutting their teeth with Flight School. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

August 17, 20169 yr I would be astonished if we see a 64bit version of P3D in 2016 (and by that, I mean v4). As for the 32bit version of P3D being a "dead end", if none of our existing addons work with the 64bit version, then v4 will be like standing at the entrance to a housing estate before anything has been built. Call me cynical, but I can't see the attraction in that. Call me cynical, but I can't see the attraction in that. I am all for 64 bit development. I am sure 3.X will be there for 32 bit (Version 3 is for 32-bit and 4 should be 64 etc). If developers who don't make new changes for 64 bit - then that is their decision. New players will emerge for 64bit and some will evolve and some will never change. Guess where my dollars are going for - developers who change, adapt, and innovate (and focus on VR too). I have seen some old FSX addons, why do people support it when the developer has no interest in updating it or adding new features. Bottom line - exciting changes will be coming and just like P3D 1.4 (aka stable DX9 FSX ), 2.5 (Fancy DX11 FSX ) is available even then 3.x (Real Fancy SLI DX11 FSX ) will be there if you need it. No one is forced to upgrade. Everyone will get their respestive sim with their respective addons. I still can't believe there is development going on FS2004 but it is cool for who needs it. August 17, 20169 yr Personally, I Have stopped buying any and all aircraft and sceneries and also addons such as atc, clouds, and other utilities because I feel that the sim experience has come to a stale type wall and every new area or aircraft released are just more of the same ole same ole. And I have bought and supported developers offerings for years in the thousands of dollars. Bring on 64 bit and all the newer technology and to hell with all the older generation of addons. If you want to run your hanger of FSX or P3D addons then have at it with FSX or P3D 3.3.5. I am ready to move on, credit card in hand, to a more modern version of a flight sim that takes advantage of the newer hardware and software. It was fun while it lasted, but the time has come to proceed to a new generation type sim or I will find another hobby to spend my money on. Thanks for reading,Skip
August 17, 20169 yr Author The anxiety if any over porting over addons to 64 bit is silly.. Cause I do not plan to give up my P3D V3.3 anytime soon. I have a reasonable PC to fly the P3D v3.x and I currently own probably less than 10% of the addon airports out there..and I can keep purchasing addon airports say..1 a week for a couple of years. So what would happen if there is a new P3D v4 with no backward compatibility? I would buy it, install it and use it and start with 1 or 2 addon...and enjoy that in addition to my P3D V3. This is what I did when we went from FS9 to FSX. Because of the curved earth in FSX, it broke a lot of addon sceneries from FS9. Remember those amazing Vaouchez airports for Oregon and Rhode Island? (Incidentally I managed to use them in P3D.. some parts broken an all..but they were so good.. I still use them) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
