I've never heard of this Belynz chap before (I'm not one for watching gameplay videos or streams, but I presume he's popular as someone donated £700 to him and he got an interview with FSL) and although he was good at showcasing the visuals he was poor with the systems, one gem that stood out early was "The oil volume option has LT and QT, I guess that's loud and quiet"! He also spent some time amazed at fairly standard features for high-end addons. Never the less, it was clear the visuals are outstanding, I'd go as far as to call it beautiful.

Airline2Sim's video was much more informative in terms of systems (for the part 2 I watched). It's very clear the FSL is a cut above anything else and has set a new bar for desktop simulator addons. Just in normal operations, the avionics and systems modelling depth is a joy. Having lavished all this praise on it though I'm not sure I shall purchase as it's very expensive for a novelty (I don't mean to devalue what FSL has achieved); by that I mean I'd fly it a bit, be amazed at all the features, detail and automation, then get bored of being a spectator and go back to more involving turboprops.

Matt is just a hobbyist, he has no airline experience. He's young and just flies for fun without digging into systems much. Don't expect expert level walk-throughs or anything with streamers like him, it's just for a young fan base to enjoy the latest addons. Most of his flights are just something to do between Counterstrike games.

The donations that streamers get is unreal, every month hundreds of dollars people love to donate to feel part of something.

Well maybe I need my ears cleaning but did I also mishear some of the snide remarks about " other developers " ?

What is it about this topic that really brings people out looking to stir the pot and get attention?

Once we release the P3D version, you can pay an upgrade price, which will be the straight difference between the FSX and P3D prices.

Does this mean that you also get the FSX version for free if you buy the P3D version? Because if you buy the FSX version first and then the P3D upgrade price, you do get both the FSX and P3D version for the same price.

Chris

Well that is not really a secret and if you watch the forum you will exactly know what was meant :D

This are probably the details that still need ironing out ;)

The license system is continually updating itself, the spec page says the airplane needs internet access to keep verifying with the license servers. I will guess here that if you spend the difference to buy the P3D upgrade you lose your FSX license.

I appreciate he's just a hobbyist, but so am I (albeit a little older) and in-between the fancy flight planning and addons he seemed to be some missing fundamental basics that really let it down (like not knowing about litres and quarts)! Not sure I'm comfortable with the requests for money with the promise of future content that might not turn up, or buying some of their time (not like he's some great font of knowledge); still, each to their own I guess, he's obviously making some good money out of it so what do I know?

Back on topic: one thing I have yet to see in any video is how the fly-by-wire handles, I think that's the crux for me. Every Airbus for FSX thus far has felt like the joystick was connected to the control surfaces by carrier pigeon. Anyone want to try and recreate Gordon Corps' demo flight where he messes about with the aircraft on the stall threshold? http://www.ziln.co.nz/video/1503 the bit from 9:30 onwards (if someone wants to recreate the whole video excluding the first 5 min, that'd be ace)

He does not request money. He just streams for fun and doesn't take it seriously. He does flights on vatsim and just learns as he goes. He always gets the latest addons, aircraft, and scenery, so many people will just watch his stream to get an idea on what to expect with the addons. People donate to streamers to feel part of a community. And he makes it a full time job, there are hundreds of his fans out there that donate every month. I don't get it but to each his own.

Matt doesn't claim to be an expert, he never has. But he knows how to operate the aircraft. He just does what he does and others can choose to come along for the ride or not. Either way, I don't think he really gives a hoot. What he has managed to do over the two/three years is share his passion for simming - and I would dare say it is thanks to him for VATSIM having become ever more popular over the past two years. I taught myself to fly the 777 and 737 by watching his videos intitially - before diving into the documentation. Love him or hate him, he's made a significant contributution to flightsim just by doing what we all love to do and sharing it on YT. There are many other Youtubers who hack their way through a format they copied from Matt, but havn't really achieved or maintained the quality that he has produced.

Wow, one of the most detailed, high fidelity aircraft addons is on the cusp of release (I am no fan of this early adopters thing at all but I suppose it's up to FSLabs what they want to do) and you have a look on here just to see people moaning. I'm staggered by the level of detail by watching A2S videos. If you think it too expensive or too detailed for you just don't buy it, simples! But there are some of us who love actually learning an aircraft properly!

Now I just need to find time to fly my Q400, 737 NG, 777 and now this when its properly released.

(And there is a 747 on the horizon as well, help not enough hours in the day!!)

I like Matt's youtube series and not his streams. He always had unique flights like to Japan or Brazil. His stream seems to me like full of young kids and evert time he flies you have a handful of kids logging into vatsim just to mess with him and get attention.

A few of the loudest negative people here had a lot of posts in the past that went out of their way to defend the Aerosoft Airbus. There's a long time poster on the forum that will bash PMDG at every opportunity and defend iFly like it's a competition. Some people view everything even a flight sim hobby, like a sporting event with their team vs everyone else.

I need to fly the Q400 more, there is a small patch planned for soon I will get back into it once that drops. It's such a handful, I get exhausted after doing a few short real life flights. I think I need FS2Crew for that aircraft to help with the work load.

I comletely agree with you there. I'm rarely free when he streams and also preferred the more focused and concise YT videos. I'm sad that hes decided to stop.

He sounded burned out, and I am watching his FSLabs stream now, and he mentioned this, that he was burned out always flying point A to B, but flying the FSLabs Airbus he feels refreshed. I really hope this changes his mind about stopping the youtube flight videos.

I think you will find that the pot was already well stirred long before I arrived and I certainly wasn't looking for attention .

As for my profile , it merely states that I reside in the Netherlands , not that I was born there and as an ex-member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces I have no difficulty understanding the Queen's English .

As for all the comments about the pricing or which simulated product is better ( or worse ) than the other , this happens each time any new software is released , so nothing new there . If there's enough hype people will buy anything at any price even if you don't " need " to have it . The regret ( or pleasure ) comes later .

John

From my earlier post , nothing negative ( or positive there either ) . My " expertise " is painting , not flying but I can't see myself paying such a price in order to be able to make any liveries . My loss , no-one elses .

I still don't get what is expected. "Priced out of"? How are people being priced out of anything? I again go back to my car analogy. I can't afford a BMW. But, I'd really like one. Does that mean they are pricing me out of it? The fact that they produce a quality product that costs that amount of money? So since I can't afford it, they should lower the price so I can? I wish it worked that way, but it doesn't.

The car analogy isn't comparable. You could buy a 3-4 year-old BMW for far less than a new one. But you can't wait 3-4 years and expect the price of software to drop the same. It will still be $100 in 4 years.
