Are you talking about Matt Davies, or someone else?

The same one that got young kids to donate to him so he could buy an ibook and a monitor.

People have always donated to him like they do all streamers, he just put up what he wanted as a goal. He didn't force anyone to donate. What is the big deal?

Yeah. Let the hate flow through you, young Skywalker!

Sheesh. If the addon is too expensive for someone - don't buy it.

Or start a whine thread.

And stoppen ######ing around. I think it is up to Matt what to do with the money.

There isn't any. Donating money to a streamer who's work/streams you enjoy watching isn't different compared to buying a gaming magazine or paying serious money to go to

a concert or sporting event or paying for a spotify and/or netflix subscription or etc. For many game companies and computer/computer components/accessories makers

the professional streamers are just another channel for advertising in the same way as a tennis clothes/racquet manufacturers sponsors top tennis players with clothes and tennis racquets.

Yes, and it's worth noting that compiling and editing YouTube videos on a regular basis takes a lot of time and effort. If people want to donate to him because of that effort (resulting in useful information for prospective purchasers of the scenery/aircraft packages that he uses), then that's fine.

It's not like Matt forced anyone. He's never asked for donations. It's common for streamers to put up donation goals. So what it people donate. Good luck to him.

Well you rang the "let's show the world what a lovely bunch flightsimmers are" bell, loud and clear :D

Now they are all showing up :P

To be fair, he always discloses what he intends on purchasing with the donations and people are free to donate or not. If 'young kids' are able to donate money online, then the issue is rather more about parental supervision than the person requesting the donation. Besides, kids can be doing alot worse on the internet these days than sponsoring their favourite flightsim Youtuber with £5 as a token of thanks for something they enjoy watching. In internet terms, I'd call that a 'healthy option'

While he never demanded donations as a condition to watch his content, he has asked for donations to the point of establishing a patreon account.

My Youtube Videos!

http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

Videos are *incredibly* time consuming to make, especially if you want them to have high production values. Our 'First Look' videos for the Bus took three days to make and they are a bit of a 'cut and shut' by our standards. If you want to go back and reshoot bits, add in B-roll footage and then audio like ATC etc it could easily take a week to make a two hour video. It's why we don't make many VLOGS!

The A2S videos on the bus are amazing (makes we want to go back and rewatch my Dash 8 series!!!).  Anyway they also sold me on the idea of buying this addon for P3D when it is released.  Even though I will never use all of the in depth features there is something about knowing that the addon works just as the real aircraft does that makes it appealing (just like PMDG, Majestic and A2A addons).

Very kind comments, thanks! I guess the thing with the FSL is not that you'll touch many of the systems from day to day but with some training you'll learn to understand and appreciate what they're doing. And as you said it's good to know that everything is happening as it should, which isn't quite true of the 'others'. It's quite cool to be able to set the overhead and all the systems realistically. All adds to the immersion!

although he was good at showcasing the visuals he was poor with the systems, one gem that stood out early was "The oil volume option has LT and QT, I guess that's loud and quiet"!

I watched his stream yesterday and that too was my impression. I am by no standard an Airbus expert, I have merely spent many hours doing CBTs, reading manuals and practising procedures using the Aersoft A320 (which is just great for that). From that perspective, what I was saw was at some point mildly cringeworthy. But it basically confirmed the notion that it is easy and possible to fly the Airbus from A to B, in fact I learned to fly airliners in the sim on the PSS A320 some ten years ago! That is, however, probably not what the FSL A320 is made for, and therefore not its best advertisement. I'm hoping for an actual pilot to show us around on youtube soon. Despite (or due to?) all the automation, there is a lot to learn about the Airbus' systems and procedures, many of which will greatly enhance the simulation experience.
