February 13, 20179 yr X Plane been in Beta for 20 yrs. Still no seasons? A false claim. There is one season!
February 13, 20179 yr I've been IN and OUT so many times that I really don't know what to say, but above all I always have the sensation of the loss of Potential when I think of X-plane.... So many good things could happen with it, and yet, it's still so far from what the typical simmer can ask and have already, for ages, in FSX or now P3D... A true waste of potential, that's what it is for me :-/ No decent weather, nor visually nor injected, with the remarkable exception of NOAAs plugin, and I can't comment on xEnviro because I don't own it.... No Seasons... Those irritating long lasting bugs in the most basic aspects of the physics model... no Moon and proper lighting according to date... Sorry for the honesty.... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 13, 20179 yr Author You gotta see XP11 in Ortho scenery.... it's basically photoscenery like we had in FSX/P3D but with autogen/trees/roads/vector data adhering to the photo tiles. And it's free. Hi Ryan, sure, that looks great, but I am ignorant as to how it works. Am I right in thinking you have to create it yourself? I simply could not accept the lego brick, horrible tree covered terrain that I see every time I watch XP. I mean, if I wanted Ortho scenery of the UK and Spain tomorrow, how would I go about getting it? It's a masterpiece. http://www.spainuhd.es/ UK can be generate with Ortho4XP, that requires some knowledge but nothing too complex unless you want to customize LOD for different areas (I do for example much greater Lod around airports and costs). February 13, 20179 yr I've been IN and OUT so many times that I really don't know what to say Some times, it's best not to say anything at all. There are other alternatives out there, pick your poison.
February 13, 20179 yr A false claim. There is one season! Of course there is a distinction to be made between seasonal weather and seasonal textures. All of the seasonal weather patterns are accurately simulated in X-Plane even if there is currently only one seasonal texture. But to answer the question posed by the opening post, yes, I made the move from FSX to X-Plane around the time X-Plane 10 was released. FSX was really starting to show its age by that point, and I wanted a more modern, up-to-date flight simulator. I could have bought a bunch of add-ons for FSX, I suppose, but it would have cost more to bring FSX up to the level of X-Plane 10 than it did just to buy X-Plane 10, so it was an easy choice. Also the fact that I had very few third-party add-ons for FSX (less than $50) meant I had little vested reason to cling to outdated software. Finally, I was moving away from Windows to Linux, and X-Plane is literally the only game in town when it comes to professionally developed flight sim software for the penguin flavored operating system. So that's my story.
February 13, 20179 yr Right now about 90% P3D, 10% XP11. ORBX and PMDG are supposed to convert some of their best products to XP in the near future. I'm especially looking for a PMDG quality jet to dully switch to XP. What I love about XP is that CTDs are very rare and OOM errors never happen. So that's my story. Let us not discount the fact that even if you could bring FSX up to a reasonable level of quality and performance of XP, it still wouldn't compare due to the VAS limitations alone, with FSX. Breaking the 32-bit barrier was the first step to getting X-Plane to a much better standard of simulation. February 13, 20179 yr XPX cant match the immersion of commercial aviation that FSX (or for me now P3D) can. I have XPX but rarely fly it for that reason. False Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist
February 13, 20179 yr Just to make sure we don't steer anyone wrong, ORBX has already stated that they are not going to be working with XP. Between the 5 "secret" projects announced by ORBX, it seems that at least one of these two could be an XP plunge. I'm well aware they completely dismissed XP a few years ago, but who knows? Project A - Massive. A huge investment in new tech, new tools, new apps and new staff. It will surprise many of you, and delight you all. It will focus on both Europe and North America. It will perform like nothing you have experience in your simming life. It will support VR. It will be a VFR flyer's wet dream. It will be sold on OrbxDirect. Oh, and it will be 64-bit. Project X - The surprise package. The dark horse. A big $ R&D commitment. Orbx quality where it's needed the most so things finally get to truly shine. Oh, and it's 64-bit. Long story short, they incurred issues with their scenery (not to mention wasted time and effort) in XP so they dropped the project: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/128535-project-x-not-happening/#comment-1144330 Engage, research, inform and make your posts count! -Jim Morvay Origin EON-17SLX - Under the hood: Intel Core i7 7700K at 4.2GHz (Base) 4.6GHz (overclock), nVidia GeForce GTX-1080 Pascal w/8gb vram, 32gb (2x16) Crucial 2400mhz RAM, 3840 x 2160 17.3" IPS w/G-SYNC, Samsung 950 EVO 256GB PCIe m.2 SSD (Primary), Samsung 850 EVO 500gb M.2 (Sim Drive), MS Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit
February 13, 20179 yr I'm switching right now. I tested XP10 occasionaly for 1 year and I was quite happy, but wasn't decided. It was like 50-50. But after few test flights in demo of XP11 I'm conviced to switch. I will not miss the ORBX - I love photoscenery with xplane autogen so much I don't even care about seasons. Mesh is better in XP11. What I will miss is: Active Sky, Ultimate Traffic and PMDG. Right now I can live with Enviro and IXEG or FF. Milan Zikmund
