[25APR18] New Product Reveal at FlightSim Expo'18 - Las Vegas 09JUN18

Recommended Posts

I am really disappointed at some of the critical comments aimed at PMDG here. It's fair enough to be somewhat disinterested in a particular product, but to effectively tell the PMDG guys (who have no doubt been working hard on this for quite some time) that they "should have made better use of their resources elsewhere" is unacceptable. Yes, I get it that every man and his dog wants a PMDG 787, but.....was anyone seriously thinking that this announcement would be for another plane? After the "New Product Reveal at Flightsim Expo 18" thread opening post by Robert stated "it is going to be unlike anything PMDG has ever done before, and we think it will be unlike anything you have ever seen at an event related to simming"?

Come on, guys. You are better than this.

yes everything you say is one of the outcomes, every company does this they need to hype things up to sell products ; its part of advertising/marketing etc.

However if the hype does not live up to your expectation , then nobody but you cares. (because that's your problem , you could not contain your excitement or had too many expectations )

PMDG (and many other companies) has no control/liability towards how people react or handle or not handle the excitement/hype .

What is exciting for some may not be exciting to others.

Indeed. I agree, but the overhype is what has led the hostile comments i beleive.

Just saw this, huge disappointment for me, it's a glorified FS Economy, been there done that.

I was really expecting a new aircraft.  I'll buy the 747-8 but this?  I'll pass.

RSR made it very clear in his initial post about the upcoming product that it would not be a new aircraft - but something entirely different.

Nobody is going to be forced to buy or use GFO. It may not hold any interest for you, which is fine. For me, this is exactly the sort of thing I have been hoping PMDG would develop, as I very much enjoy emulating the planning and dispatch side of airline operations.

I‘d laugh my a off if PMDG released a 787 in fall and said „here‘s what you wanted? Here‘s what you get. And if you don‘t behave well you won‘t be notified about the next plane either..“ xD

well, the little child inside of me was actually hoping for an „haaahaaa we‘ve been mocking you all the time, here‘s your MD-11“, but rant against PMDG just because they have done what they said and didn‘t do one? Dafuq? They have clearly announced something that hasn‘t been done before... so to watch people guessing a plane was a bit weird to be honest xD

GFO („Get the Fu** Off my plane, written completely) is all I‘ve ever wanted and hoped for but I‘ve never expected it from PMDG. So I‘m even more excited about it, I‘ve always known PMDG for incredible realism and perfection so this can‘t be bad. I just hope for a „reasonable“ prizing... more than 20 Dollars per year combined with a Navigraph or AS Navdata subscription would really be too much for me. Fingers crossed..

I spent two years on this on my own so the aircraft teams (yes, teams, plural) could continue working on their stuff. I then got some assistance as some of the other guys rolled off of their projects, and they’re helping out while they’re not engaged on their next product (a plane that we haven’t told you about...surprise, though Ryan and I were joking last night that we might as well just not tell anyone anything anymore based on the vitriol we’re seeing). So...”resources better spent?” No. Please mind your own matters before making (massive) assumptions about how we’re running things. While you’re at it, go work on a project on your own for a few years and then subject it to a bunch of criticism by people who seem to be intentionally misrepresenting it to hate it for...reasons.

Gosh, Kyle.  I didn't know you were the only person ever to work on a long-term project and then have to face criticism at the end of it.  Many, many of us have spent much longer lives than yours working on projects and, yes, getting critical comments when finished.  And, in some cases, having the project dropped.

No! Actually it‘s the miserable behaviour on the internet.. I‘d say parental education but that‘s just speculation as well... -.-

After reading this, I can’t tell if people didn’t understand, are being willfully word not allowed, or are just massively irritated that we didn’t announce another jet.

Did PMDG ever come out directly and say, "It is not a jet"?

I think people will have to see it to understand it, and see if they want it. I can honestly appreciate that, and I don’t blame anyone for that.

This is why I've held off on saying anything until I get some official comment on what this thing actually does.

Robert did say at the beginning of the thread....

So I'm not really too sure how much more direct it can be. They've done jets before obviously.

I couldn't read this entire thread, I had to skip to the end because I started to get the same stress that I feel when I walk into a restaurant for lunch and hear the Red Hat ladies over at the big table.  I for one am looking forward to GFO and the data immersion that is a part of modern aviation... and then once in a while I'm going to take my DC-6 out for a $1000 hamburger.  The variety is good.

Definitely not what I was expecting PMDG to announce. Although truthfully, I had no clue or suspicion or idea whatsoever.

I'm not entirely sure this will be a product for me. But there were some interesting features mentioned in the presentation.
I'll be very interested in hearing more about this product as news is released.

Kyle, from reading this forum, I know you've got a tough skin. But I just wanted to say: Don't let the haters get you down.
No product will ever appeal to everybody. And disappointed people are usually the most vocal.
Whether this Global Flight Operations turns out to be my cup of tea or not, I do appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into something like this.

I hope PMDG don't think I'm being critical of GFO because I'm not.  I think it will be a great product.

But PMDG can you please consider this suggestion (and I know I've been "harping on" about it over several posts)...

When I "check-out" a plane, let me move it to the airport I wish to depart from.

Why?

  • I have favorite routes I want to fly (eg YSSY - RPLL)
  • I don't have the time to ferry the plane to my departure airport just so I can do my favorite flight
  • I don't have the time nor energy to learn the departure procedures for an unfamiliar airport
  • I might have purchased scenery for airports on my favorite routes, I want to use it
  • You don't dictate what airport we can land at, so it seems unreasonable to dictate what airport we depart from
  • The loss of continuity in the flight log (the plane will have "warped" from its previous destination airport to a new departure airport) is a small price to pay for user satisfaction
  • Is anyone going to even care that the plane "warped" to a new departure airport, unless they check the flight log they wont even know.
  • Doesn't affect the miles flown, "wear and tear" accumulated on the air-frame, or the state the cockpit is left in
  • I often do unrealistic short haul flights for a 747 (eg RPLL - RPVM, VTBD - VTSP, VIDP - VNKT).   Planes will end up being "orphaned" at unusual airports because other people will not want to depart from them. Allowing users to move the plane on "check-out" means no orphaned aircraft.

Really looking forward to the release of GFO!
