Now I'm starting to see why the computers in the Global Preview event had 64GB RAM. Looks like it does require a hefty amount...

How much RAM do you have?

About a year ago, many people were saying that 16 gigs of RAM was pretty much a case of Overkill. Based on that, and previous experience, I immediately bought 32GB, and seriously considered getting 64! 😅

There was no mention of not being able to tell you're in when you signed up for the tech alpha and there's nothing in the e-mail either. That line is clear about not being allowed to share anything but it's not clear at all on whether you're allowed to tell you're in.

Legally an emphasis could me on "everything related to this program is confidential", and I'm sure that would include participation.

But still, I'm sure you guys are okay. No harm done for telling you are in.

Well, there is the line "You acknowledge that everything related to this Program is confidential and should be treated as confidential until such time as Microsoft releases it". Legally, they could easily kick you out of the program for sharing you got in, on that line alone.

Someone also said this in the MSFS Facebook group, whether it's true or not I don't know but;

I already explained this in a previous post, by saying you are invited, you are not releasing any more information that Microsoft has already released.  As MS has already publically announced the dates of recruitment.  So there is absolutely nothing wrong with people saying if they are invited or not, as long as they don't go into further details of their next steps etc.

EDIT: MS seems to have fast tracked tech alpha 2 since they are giving another update next week about it? Seems like good news for the ones that didn't get invited this time around.

Some time ago it was said that more than 640KB of RAM would be enough for everyone. History is repeating itself.

Considering that the overwhelming majority of games don't need more than 16GB RAM nowadays, I was a bit surprised with this 32GB thing. Perhaps the new consoles will make that a necessity from now on.

Yeah, there was no October 31 update on the roadmap. It's good we're getting information on the second Tech Alpha soon, though I still wish we had some information on the minimum requirements now.

I doubt the more ram you have the higher the chance of getting selected for testing. The whole point of testing is to test on various configurations so they can get a general feel on how well the software will run.

No mail for me so far.
Well, better luck next time for me for sure 🙂

If they have a RAM intensive early build, then it's obviously logical to pick people with lots of RAM to make for an optimal testing environment. Early builds are rarely meant to test for broad, generalized compatibility or performance.

It still says late November for signing up, like on the last roadmap.

Check the latest post, somewhere in there they mention how they are trying to rapidly get more people access to the tech alpha and they will update on tech alpha recruitment next week, seems like they bought that forward a whole month unless I am mistaken.  Which is great news if I understand correctly.

The current recommended spec for XP11 is "16-24 GB RAM or more," so the requirements have been creeping up for a while now. The optional UHD terrain mesh add-on for XP11 can easily eat up a good portion of 32 GB RAM.

The final, optimized minimum spec for the new MSFS may be similar to current games at around 8-16 GB, but it wouldn't surprise me if the recommended spec is somewhere in that same 24-32 GB neighborhood, given what they're showing as eye candy.

I guess that's why there are quite a few systems with 32GB RAM in here? Or can Prepar3D v4 use that much as well?

16GB is still recommended for a gaming PC nowadays and this is what I was planning to go with for my new system, though now I think I will reconsider...

I have been notified today that I am accepted for tech alpha 1 😁

I just checked my mails and had eight new mails. I thought one of them just has to be from Microsoft - but no, none from Microsoft. That's a bummer. 🙄
