Microsoft Flight Simulator - X019 - Gameplay Trailer

Stunning.

Does anyone know how they get the building height right ? I really wonder, there might be some data at big city level, but I doubt seriously about random cities. Also how they get the monuments right as it can't really be extrapoled like a building might be. Does the sample here are all photogrametry cities ? The whole making process desserve an in depth reviews for people interested.

Msfs is getting the most chatter in a couple of the non flight sim specific forums I lurk on.

That's a good sign for us.  Maybe it means there will be more of us soon!  More of us could result in more add-on buyers and more "stuff" created.

In one of the videos with the devs talking about third party`s they said they would leave the high detailed fully functioning cockpit`s to the third party`s as they do it better, so I suspect the all switches and glass cockpit will be an addon.

And todays insider update list the aircraft manufactures

The aircraft partnerships we’re announcing today include (in alphabetical order):

Airbus

The Boeing Company

CubCrafters

Daher

Diamond Aircraft Industries

ICON Aircraft

Robin Aircraft

Textron Aviation

Back in 1998, just after I first stumbled onto Avsim, Sierra Pro Pilot was the first simulator to roll out with a geo coded terrain mesh that rendered the earth's surface to 15 feet accuracy.  I recall the first time I flew Pro Pilot from KSNA (Orange County Calif) to Big Bear (Calif) and back.  I was blown away at how the terrain literally fell away from me as I cleared the mountains out over San Benardino. Then I flew up the Columbia river gorge from Portland.   I recall posting a topic here titled something like "Pro Pilot, Look Again".  In that respect that was well ahead of its time.  So to expect that here 20+ years later MS has access to a much more sophisticated mesh does not challenge my expectations, much less my imagination.

That would be great, and mostly clever. To take an analogy : Boeing does not build all the parts of airplane, it rely on thousands of suppliers to do so. Essentially it design the blueprint and glue the pieces together. Airbus does the same. That is what makes very good airplanes : to each their one specialization.

For heaven's sake, please quit quoting videos and screenshots! Be kind to our fellow simmers. :)

Graphics with low level flying in MSFS2020QFpevc2.jpg

The sim looks beautiful as always in the trailer but this does show some of the limitations of the AI with blurred textures on buildings and lots of sharp edges or contorted shapes as anomalies.

I'm sure it less noticeable when in flight and certainly not at anything but very low altitudes.

Every trailer just gets me rehyped 🙂

"I'm sure it less noticeable when in flight and certainly not at anything but very low altitudes."

It's also clearly visible in Venice when flying low over the canals, but I'm sure they'll fix it, or we'll just have to avoid flying that low in cities  🙂

Hmmm okay but would you count building height as mesh ? Mesh is terrain, it is widely available data. How do they get proper building elevation ? I mean... for the whole world.

Crazy amazing!  I can't wait to buy this!

Read this article to learn how to calculate height (and other dimensions) using photogrammetry:

Would asobosoft bother partnering with Boeing if they were just going to use a pmdg plane?

Exactly! enough reason to suspect it is their own model.
