How many "real" simmers are out there?

Recommended Posts

May I suggest different categories: "Casual Simmer" versus "Enthusiast" ?

Neither is derogatory, nothing wrong with enjoying FS without diving in too deeply, but if you have felt your heart rate rise and palms sweat before making that "continue landing" call when the runway finally becomes visible just as you near minimums, then you are probably in the Enthusiast category, because at that point how can you not be? lol

Oh dear! Maybe that's why my local flight school didn't offer me a job. I had listed that I held a simulated CFII...

Not to worry, Bill. Our forums are full of Simulator ATPs with all the type ratings they can download. 😂

I refer to MSFS, P3D, XPlane, and others as games. That's what they're marketed as and the label they carry.

That being said I've also been using them to practice IFR procedures, in the airplanes I fly in the real world, for years.  In that sense I guess they could be considered simulators. They're fairly comparable to an actual GA sim, just without a physical panel in front of you and, in some circumstances,  don't have nearly the depth that is sometimes required (I'm looking at you P3D G1000 developers!).

A real simmer only flies PMDG planes, and does not bother to contribute to forums like this one.

Then, Don't!

Hey folks,

Just wondering if anyone has an estimate of how many real simmers there are in the world? Excluding Mars or other planets. And excluding the "kids and others" that just consider it a game to see how many times they can crash into a building.

Anyone hazard a guess??

Two, you and I.

The "landing" that I made at EIDW Dublin last night in the PMDG 747-400 BCF rules me out of the "real simmer" category. It was one of the worst landings that I have made in years.....and this was in calm weather with clear skies!! My excuse is that I was distracted by one or two things, but it's a pathetic excuse as real world pilots can't afford to have their minds wandering all over the place on short final

Well, thank you for self-reporting. Be advised however that your simulated ATP license has suspended for two hours.
