Does ORBX have to be totally reloaded?

Featured Replies

I plan to do a completely new installation of P3d v5.  I am assuming that ORBX (among everything else) will have to be completely reinstalled.  I mean ALL the Global stuff, the airports, the countries, the regions, etc.

Am I right?

Stan

I would also like to know this. I have a lot of addons from v4. Just the thought of having to start all over from scratch frightens me.

ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

Maybe not, I did manual downloads after the update to Central. If Central changes again, then yes, were starting over. What fun would flight sim be without endless hours of downloading scenery.

I'm prepared to do this again...yeah, that's what I keep telling myself.

If you have installed Orbx into your sim, then yes. I have all my products in a separate library (apart from FTX Global which I believe has to be installed into the root folder). I am hopeful that we will be able to just re-install Orbx Central, point it to the file library and let it do it's thing.

I'd ask on the Orbx forums, but I think their installers will locally copy any files that are shared in common between the platforms.  Of course if you uninstall v4 first, then those files will be gone already.

I would hold off until clear guidance is provided.  There is a good chance that you do not need to re-install, but can re-use the existing Orbx files.

The installers can be (and are by default) saved on the customer's computer.  In Central v4 check Settings>Downloader for the "Backups" section.  If "Automatically backup product install files" is checked the installers are saved at the location noted, and redownloading is not neccessary.  I just did a complete reinstall of P3Dv4.5HF2 and I installed all of my ORBX stuff this way... it was fast!

Greg

Wouldn't it be just as easy as updating Orbx Central to include v5?

Just checked, and I do indeed have automatic backup CHECKED!  I guess we'll see how this all works out!

Stan

Automatic backup is not required, I think, if you still have the original orbx install folder (remains behind even when you uninstall p3d).

i just reinstalled 4.5 today in a new location, after removing my original install.

If still have the Orbx folder in your old P3D directory, Orbx products show up as  installed in Orbx central. But they won’t actually be active in your new install.

Solution: press the “validate files” button on each product - it will now be active in the new sim.

for v5, if you can point Orbx central towards your v5 install and perform this step, I think the Orbx products will then be active. Would need to convince the registry that the v5 folder is really v4 to keep Orbx central happy.

Alternatively, i am sure you can just activate your old orbx files manually if you like.

Hmm i just moved p3dv4 to an old none ssd drive so that i can have p3dv5 on a 1TB SSD.

I have ORBX installed  the Old way. I am hoping I can do it the new way with v5?

Maybe not?

I've migrated my whole ORBX installation (scenery.cfg) to ORBX libraries (add-on.xml). It took me 3 hours but now I have 500+ GB in libraries and I hope that I can use them in P3Dv5 without much trouble after ORBX Central is ready for v5.
