No, it does not work like a charm by default. Pete even said he didn't want to upgrade until this 3rd party bug fix was released. And yes, it's a bug fix, not a new feature or enhancement. That's where things go wrong. Don't confuse bugs (lack of spinning wheels) with enhancements (a new gearbox). We see this all the time - can't upgrade until addon X/Y/Z is released because the default is so bad that it makes the sim unusable.

If the addons took something that was ok by default and turned them into something good or great, that's where we should put our money. Not to fix bugs or to compensate for lack of features that one should absolutely expect in a $200 software.

If the sim isn't smooth but can be fixed with a trivial 3rd party software, shouldn't we expect the developer to actually fix this bug? Since you and most people don't agree with me here, the result is that LM will not fix this bug or any other 100+ known bugs. In Prepar3D v6, v7, v8, v9, v10 you will likely still be paying money to fix the same bugs over and over again. And pay to get the ATC to go from unusable to usable. And pay to get clouds that don't look like squares. And pay to get AI that aren't from the 80's. The list goes on. Maybe I'm the one with a limited wallet here who think that if you pay $200, you could expect some level of functionality and some kind of response to bug reports.

The thing is, when MSFS is released and if it has similar stuttering/blurries issues it would be criticised by those currently defending P3D v5/Xplane 11 etc and rightly so because a polished expensive app/game/flightsim should work as advertised.

That being said, does P3D v5 have potential to be a great flight simulator? absolutely it does, however it's main issue is that around the corner there is a new kid on the block that has the potential to blow it away along with any other flight sims currently around, personally I'm between a rock and a hard place, because while I want MSFS to be a fantastic next Gen flight Sim, I also want P3D and Xplane to survive and thrive because at the end of the day, I'm a flight sim fan.

V4.5 is already a great flight simulator!  If V5 never got better than it is today, and MSFS is somehow a heinous arcade game sim I'm happy as a clam going forward!

After reading the replies of this post, I decided to go ahead and purchase FFTF for P3Dv4 to test out. However, after installing the program, my Windows defender claims that it's a virus, can anyone please advise? Regards,

Probably a false flag. More false flags these days than actual viruses.

In all probability, yes. However, how can I be certain? Anyone else facing a similar issue?

Yes that has happened with P3Dv4 version also - it is a false flag.

Windows these days has been flagging so many flight sim addons - see Lorby's tool - I bet he is tired of windows flagging is Most required app for P3D

What's wrong with pointing out the shortcomings of P3D with the goal to make the developers improve that software?

Emphasis mine.

Therein lies the problem.  The belief that you're going to force the developers to do what you want.

The FS/FSX/Prepar3D branch has had at least 15 years of stuttering blurries and other bad things that the developers haven't fixed. People have become so used to it that the majority of the community is ignoring or even defending those bugs and lack of basic features. If MSFS has similar bugs and other signs of lazy programming when released I'm pretty sure it's dead in the water from day one, because the expectations are almost unreasonably high. I'm convinced that MS/Asobo are well aware of this though and I hope that this will lead to some well needed action in the flight sim world.

Unlike Prepar3D, people will absolutely not say "Well yeah, MSFS is total junk, but let's wait a few years and see what the 3rd party devs can do. It's just a foundation. It has potential.". We all know that "it has potential" is just another way of saying "OMG, this is SO bad".

I'm really surprised that LM rushed a new major release at this point where it's pretty obvious that it wasn't even properly beta tested. I just wish that we had the same expectations when it comes to Prepar3D as MSFS or any other software because then it would actually move forward.

No, people with weak hardware had stuttering blurries for 15 years. Maybe you don't understand that "the blurries" is actually a feature. The alternative to showing low resolution terrain textures (which look blurry) would be to either show no texture at all (black patches) or automatically reduce the frame rate to a slide show. Take your pick. Or buy hardware that matches your image quality settings. People with weak hardware will do the same thing with MSFS 2020. They will install too many add-ons and use extreme image quality settings. Stop blaming developers for users that abuse settings.

You are correct, we cannot assume MSFS is going to be the end all be all savior because once add ons get piled in, guess what??? Performance right down the toilet for a lot of folks. This is why p3d will not die anytime soon. Also, there are too many people with too much money invested to just jump ship completely from p3d, myself included. What most likely will happen is having both sims on your system. One will eventually slowly transition to one over the other in time. It will be fun to see frankly how things go in the next couple years for simming.

I posted a thread a while back and the developer responded and is the last response.

I'd imagine that MSFS will need a lot less add ons to drastically improve the SIM compared to the older sims, so performance shouldn't be as impacted.

This is till not available on SimMarket. Any news when?

Or can I get the 20% discount from the FSPS store with my SimMarket purchase?

Makes you wonder why MS/Asobo reached out and got 150 third party addon developers to get onboard to support it, with what you are saying they will be wasting there time and money but they will still be supporting P3D we know that, number are not a factor with P3D unlike MSFS which I suspect unless it get`s a lot more numbers than FSX, long term life could be a problem, MS do and have pulled the plug on products they don't think are worth long term investment, Phil Spencer when asked why MS dropped Flight sim said they MS said it takes to big a team for just one product.
