Interesting. When browsing bing maps 3d I noticed that canopies, like ones at gas stations, were solid underneath also. Like they were assumed to be buildings and filled in.

That’s one of the drawbacks to photogrammetry. Cars, ships, radio towers, amusement park rides, trees...any odd shaped structure is going to likely have less than stellar results with the computer-generated modeling. From altitudes typical of general aviation flights and higher the results are satisfactory. Anything below that however is a mixed bag from tolerable to downright ugly

Kinda shocked at how brief the beta period is going to be.  I guess they must be confident about the stability of the sim already from their work during the alpha.

I think the thing that will be important for people to remember, is that this initial release represents a foundation that will be built upon and refined over the next several years.  Realistically they could spend five years in beta, tweaking flight models and whatnot, if they wanted.

My suspicion is we are going to be in for an annoying few months, as every bug or inaccuracy that's unearthed leads to chants of "it's MS Flight all over again!" or whatever.

I can't speak for anybody else, but for myself, I've rarely been in any sort of beta, where somebody higher up didn't abruptly pull the trigger, and order the release of the product early, even with testers issues still outstanding.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

This happens all the time in flightsim and other software areas.  I've been on beta teams for almost 20 years.

Isn't Laminar responsible for permanent-beta culture in this hobby?  Microsoft can count on hordes of "early-adopters" to pay Microsoft for the privilege of being beta-testers... so it goes.

No matter the release date, I was going to wait 2 months before buying the sim, not least so that the biggest bugs get fixed and the true best system specs get clarified. Also, by then the developers who are producing DLC will be coming out of the woodwork; I'm going to be interested in seeing how quickly ORBX will release some of its tastier airfields for MSFS2020.

Between this sim and the new computer to run it, I'll be a broke shut-in by Jan 1 2021.

I live in Dallas and was kind of shocked and disappointed that DFW was not listed. I believe it’s been one of the enhanced airports going back to FS9. I didn’t expect KDAL or any of the Houston airports to be included, but DFW, that’s a pretty major hub in the US.

Hopefully a 3rd party will be able to take care of it soon.

Funny to see an actual airport chime in on MSFS.

I was expecting IAH and DFW. I was shocked as well.

I'm wondering  if MS will keep adding more hand-made airports on future updates ?

I hope so! That would be a good idea for DLC. Would it sell? Who knows. I'm excited.
