On Staying Positive and the Future of Flight Simulation

But before MSFS, there was no truly next-gen simulator on the horizon. The ability to stream the world in such detail was a pipe dream and the general consensus among simmers is that we were part of a dying hobby, doomed to buy add-on after add-on for our older sims until development eventually dwindled. Yet, here we are, with the ability to quite literally fly over our houses in most cases (yes, my house is in the sim) in a photorealistic world, with new atmospherics, AI placing autogen in ways not thought possible, cloudscapes no one dreamed of a year ago, with towns that used to be random smears in P3D now represented in incredible detail, etc. There's a ton to love here and if history has taught us anything, it's that a base engine built for the future is far more important than perfection at launch.

Yes, the flight model needs work. Yes, they need to fix some elevation issues with the scenery (the bane of every sim ever). Yes, the photogrammetry is not perfect and is at the mercy of the source data. But this is absolutely the best time ever to be a simmer. We now have a future that's brighter than anyone suspected just 12 months ago.

I share your enthusiasm and agree with you wholeheartedly.

We each have our own "particulars" or passions that we hope for and are looking forward to with the new sim and since even the multi-million dollar sims can't be everything to everyone there will undoubtedly be disappointment experienced by many of us, and for many different reasons.  That is when I will try to remember your words here today, which IMO are the bottom line and really do reveal the overall importance of this event we're all embarking upon on Aug.18th, 2020.

So umm, thanks for the words of wisdom!

So as my kids would say, "Alright Karen."

If you are looking for a reason not to buy this game then don't. Save the bandwidth for someone who wants to be amazed.

There are a lot of things to be amazed with to include a very smooth and nearly stutter free experience.

Tech Insiders have about spilled the beans as much as we can here to let people know everything is going to be alright. If you refuse to listen, then we can't help you. I am sure there is a support forum for people with 2080 Ti who believe their video cards are underutilized.

Your post is uncalled for. Being concerned about something doesn't mean I don't want to buy the game. Quite the contrary actually, feel free to look at my other posts & maybe you'll understand why your answer is off the mark. Like I said in other threads, I'll be waiting to upgrade to the new Ryzen 4000 CPUs & either Big Navi 2 or the RTX 3000 series.

MSFS. Hardware: AMD 5600X @4.0Ghz, Corsair H100i RGB Pro XT AIO, MSI MPG B550i Gaming Edge WiFi mobo, RTX 3080ti 12GB FE GPU , G.Skill TridentZ Royal 32GB (2x16) DDR4-3600 RAM CL16, PNY XLR8 3030 1 TB SSD (OS + SIM), Crucial P5 1TB M.2 pcie-3 NVMe SSD (data) . Corsair SF750 80+ Platinum PSU, NZXT H200i Mini ITX Tower.  38" LG UltraGear  38GN950-B display. 4x QL120 fans

I'll stay negative, the only way to be positively surprised.

Hehe, good idea.

We all know after release the first 30 days of complaining are going to be about frames/micro stutters and certain physics being way off the mark. These are all a given from what I've seen thus far.

But in the end, the most important thing is how MS responds and rectifies things over the first 12 months (or doesn't, for that matter). Just like Flight, this will spell out the true success or failure of the project.

I don't have any expectations. This is so because I wont be buying on release day. I'll wait 6 months to a year to see how thngs are shaping up, the kind of Hardware I might Need, and so on.

I don't understand Folks who absolutely have to buy a new game on release day. The only game I would buy on the day it Comes out would be Half Life 3

what half life 3 is for you is flight sim for a lot of others, so you are not so different after all.

You made me smile, thats me, the explorer, thank you my friend 😃 !  I see you live in Tokyo. look forward to fly in Japan too ! Should be better than Global + the Haruo LC, shouldn't be ?

With a few exceptions, Japan looks great in MSFS. I’m sure in common with most countries, its cities desperately need more custom buildings, but I’m sure 3PDs will bring those in at some point. I’m also curious to see if meshes can be imported as the government here have a very detailed one freely available (I think, at least Andras did a great mesh for Japan for free in XPlane).

You kind of answered your own (rhetorical) question though, didn't you?😉

There is obviously a reason you'd buy Half Life 3 on day one - one or more reasons you think it's worth doing. Well, the same will apply to those who buy MSFS, or any other game/sim on day 1. Simple.

Since I have a free trial of Gamepass, I'm fortunate to be able to try it out for free. If it weren't for that then yes, I'd wait, simply because I'd like to see opinions on whether the extras in the more expensive versions seemed worth it for me. But I can understand the rush to get it early after all the build-up.

Never understand those who camp outside Apple shops for a new product though! 🙄 But then I am not an Apple fanatic.!😄

OS:     Win11 Home; Mobo: Asus TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi D4; CPU: Intel i5-12400 (Alder Lake) 4.4 GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 64Gb (4x16GB) 3600 MHz; GPU:  MSI Radeon RX 5700XT [8GB]
SSD:  Corsair Force MP510 (for OS);  2x 1TB & 1x 2TB Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 (one for sim, two for addons)
HDD:  Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet

Fulcrum One Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA sidestick & throttle, Logitech Pro pedals, Xbox wireless gamepad (1st gen)

I think many overlook the fact that this is Version 1 plain and simple. If everyone could just grasp the inside leaps in technology and what has been accomplished for this version of FS. Problems will get sorted out as the technology permits. There are dozens of 3RD party developers who will iron out the wrinkles for scenery, airport’s etc and provide better flight dynamics for our favourite a/c in due time. This sim should be exciting for everyone in some particular way!

People have also overlooked the fact that it is a beta that will be released, with ongoing updates & fixes.

Very good post, well written friend! Even a fussy goat like me whose never been a fan of photo-scenery is excited for this new sim.

More than ever I think its so great its also coming to Xbox as it will introduce a whole new audience to flight and that can only be a good thing.

Other simulations while not as popular as FPS and RPGs are doing well like Euro/American Truck sim, train sim etc. So now the addition of flight is awesome.

Good point and so true!

Which is true for the other sims as well. P3D v5 and XP11 is far from finished or bug-free.
