Some houses have what is know as a 1/4 bathroom. Basically a sink and a terlit. Politely referred to as a "Cloak Room" Bert
August 8, 20205 yr Don't ask for a bathroom unless you intend to have a bath, or a restroom unless you want to lie down. It's toilet or a lavatory, that's what it is.
August 8, 20205 yr I've heard it called "water closet" in places. I know a few less than genteel terms that should be understandable anywhere, but propriety prevents me listing them here. 😄 Hook Edited August 8, 20205 yr by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! Water closet is a little passé but WC is the widely used colloquial word (pronounced VéCé /VaySay) as much as toilettes. And we also have a rather vulgar slang word for it. Another time. August 8, 20205 yr I used to be. English and Japanese. I was stationed in Japan and took Japanese through the University of Maryland Far East Campus. My first wife was also Japanese so I got a lot o practice. I became the supervisor for the Japanese laborers at the bomb dump so I became somewhat fluent. I could also read and write a few of the Kangi characters...enough to read what was written on store fronts and signs. But that was 50 years or more ago. I've lost a lot of it over the years.
