FS-2020 blurry?

Featured Replies

Perhaps wait and see hands on? I would not trust any video... I can assure you its perfectly fine and sharp flying in the Beta. Sure there will be places with not perfect data but they are usually small. Sim settings and way of recording plays a vital role.

Cheers

In the cruise you're roughly 7 miles from the earth (looking straight down), Atmospheric scattering over that distance is very significant.

At a slant range that distance obviously increases significantly.

It shouldn't be 'very sharp' at all. There's obviously a balance, and it depends on the air mass, but some blurriness of details is correct.

'Typically', it is or it isn't. Never heard anybody complain that the terrain is to sharp. If anything the terrain is not sharp enough in xp, at least not on the horizon anyways. The last picture should be really sharp. Try using a faster shutter speed next time.

My eyes don’t have shutters. I fly many dozens of hours each year doing aircraft maintenance support (as a passenger), and have close to 500 hours as a ppl since 1988. I rarely see the kind of crisp detail and vibrant colors out to the horizon in r/w flying, that simulators often provide. Especially anywhere east of the Rocky Mountains in warmer months, where even on cloudless days there is almost always a haze layer that can extend upwards many thousands of feet.

Admittedly what MSFS does is a compromise to preserve performance. At higher altitudes, the generated autogen diminishes and the underlying satellite imagery becomes predominant. To me that does not look unrealistic compared to my r/w experience of how things look from high altitude, but that is my own opinion.

Again, I am not talking about “blurries” in scenery, where the LOD reduces so much that the scenery looks out of focus. I did see evidence of that in one of the recent YouTube videos made with the release version. It was a 787 flight by “Drawyah” from Heathrow to Dubai. As he was flying over the desert at relatively low altitude setting up for the land approach, it certainly looked like even close-in scenery was at a very low LOD. I assume that could have multiple causes, ranging from the CPU or GPU being pushed to the limit, to problems streaming the online scenery, to possible errors in the base imagery in certain locations.

We’ll soon all have the opportunity to see for ourselves if this is a common problem in MSFS.

The atmosphere never generates blurry scenery.
The atmosphere can generate blue scattering on the scenery, or it can partially hide it with fog / haze.
But it never blurs the scene.
The blur effect is a bug of our simulators, it is not a realistic rappresentation of nature.
The blurry effect does not exist in nature.

If FS2020 blurs the scenery (at high altitude) the beauty of the scenery is compromised, it seems to fly over an "oil painting" by an artist.
I hope I'm wrong ... I hope it's not true.
But if that bug is true, then it is a problem, the software house must fix it, otherwise FS2020 risks becoming like FS9. 😔

I think the blue may be exaggerated. From what people who have the beta have said, the terrain is acceptable at high level. I dont mind if its a little blurry. I am not sight seeing at 38000 feet. I am monitoring systems, having my coffee, etc...

Load of nonsense.

Why nonsense?

It comes from a video made by a simmer (nick: squirrel).
It was taken with very powerful hardware (in the link hardware used for the test: https://kit.co/sqrltv/gaming-pc ), and with the simulator setting in ultra mode.

Blurry on the scenery is everywhere! ( https://imgur.com/1s5nrQv )

Do not you see it?
Really, can't you see it? 😶

"Blurry textures" is not a "bug in our simulators" as you call it. Its technically a result of texturing polygons which can only be sharp from one perspective. Therefore the Anisotropic filter was invented many years ago, simply said to "resharpen" them from other viewing angles.

And this is what is possible and state of the art.

Do i understand you right: You dont like the graphics in FS20?

Well ok, then go and search for one with better optics. You are free! 🙂

Nah, the scenery really isn't crisp. You would have known in advance if alpha testers had been allowed to talk about it.

efis007: you've got options here instead of getting increasingly wound-up.

1) If you haven't already, sign up for the trial of Xbox Gamepass for PC. This will cost £1, or similar in your local currency

2) If you've already done that, then it'll cost you £4 for one month's membership to try the sim out

3) If you don't want to, or can't, do either of those because you have an aversion to Gamepass, why not buy it on Steam and try it out? (There may be an issue here with the two-hour refund limit since I suspect it'll count the launcher downloading as playing time.)

See? Options. Not worth getting this wound-up about when you can test it yourself for a maximum of £4.

Once you go high the ground turns into a blurry mess. No matter the settings. This was reported by us testers many, many times.

@Syonco Oh dear that's very disappointing, like the early versions of P3Dv4 when using photo scenery (they'd fixed it by version 4.3), hopefully Asobo will fix this soon.

Well, as you can see in your images, the perfectly sharp effect also rarely exists.

A bit of an overexaggeration. Just a bit.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

We had dozens of videos and even more screenshots released every day. Don't need alpha testers to tell me of a problem that doesn't exist.
