FSDT Releases Key West

Recommended Posts

Wow, what a nice looking airport. It's amazing how MSFS has moved the bar forward by so much.

I think you are missing the point here.

First, your perception of value is a bit skewed

But all price considerations apart, you are missing the point about what a scenery for MSFS should be done, and it's seems you are still reasoning with the FSX/P3D old mindset.

The only thing I can agree ( sort of ) to, was that we might add some detail to the NAS. But this can be always sorted out with updates later.

Thank you for your over verbose explanation. You revealed several points that most, for sure me, would have no way of knowing:

- many areas are LiDAR and will not be improved by 3rd party scenery, even when they are poor quality and do not show what is there in the real world.

- 3rd party sceneries will most likely only cover inside the airport fence.

- missing golf courses, marinas, scenic areas near airports will not be included or improved by 3rd party devs due to LiDAR.

- $10 is a rock bottom price and don’t expect any specials due to MarketPlace rules. Aerosoft’s free airport excepted.

- it is the users (purchasers) that have to change their concept of coverage areas. “You are no longer in Kansas, my dear” applies here.

I do hope FSDT finds a way to possibly add some coverage of the NAS.

Regards,

That's what I said: we also tried them, and couldn't replicate any problems but, the conflict is there nonetheless so, it's possible problems starts to happen after a certain amount of conflicts.

Thanks for the explanations Umberto. I appreciate that you have gone to the trouble of figuring out what the conflict could be and advising us directly. That's a lot more than can be said for some other developers who would rather be defensive than help resolve issues regardless of whose at fault. Much appreciated. I feel happy now to proceed with my purchase of the scenery.

On a related note, please can you add the animated people we see in Key West to your fantastic MSFS KORD scenery? That would be awesome 👍

I know this area well so bought it yesterday.

Absolutely charming rendition of the Key West Airport & local area - flying around at dusk last night was amazing.

One wish though - please could we have some basic improvements to the neighbouring NAS Key West - the control tower area and flight line hangers are iconic designs and real local landmarks.

Did a few circuits last night, really well done and a nice jumping off point for the Keys/Caribbean/South Florida.  Seems I was alone as with live multiplayer the pattern was well populated (including an unfortunate A320 pilot who never quite got airborne).

Thank you for your over verbose explanation.

Hey Ray.....in the world of payware addons for flightsim, I believe there is no such thing as an over verbose explanation. 🤣

Even if I had some sort of hatred against Key West because my last Jimmy Buffet concert was terrible (not true actually, it was a blast and Hughie Lewis opened for him, but needed an example to hate the Key West area for my diatribe, hehe), I would buy this scenery just because of Umberto's explanation and commitment to interact with the community. 🙂

He consistently goes out of his way to quell our conspiracy theories about the dark and shadowy world of flightsim payware, and has done so in a way, that at least for me has been a "Ahhhhhh....so that is why you simply can't do that" moment every time I get to the end of his explanation.  Its like he anticipates some of the follow-on questions we'll have about the topic, and proceeds to answer those questions as if we've already asked them! 🙂

Imagine....just imagine....if aircraft payware devs came into this forum, gave the same level of explanation as to why things in the new sim are the way they are in regards to aircraft development?  Oh my.......

Imagine getting detailed, well structured explanations as to why their plane's autopilot can't follow a straight line like the default planes? 😉😉

Edit - removed by author....I was piling-on.

Anyway, I thoroughly believe if we had an aircraft dev who interacted with the community as @virtuali does, the post here on Avsim that is now 32 pages long concerning a payware aircraft would only be 2-3 pages...filled mostly with praise on how great the plane is, and how thankful we were that the developer chimed in and explained why they can't fix some of the issues their commercial products have, and the community either has to live with them, or figure out how to fix them ourselves. (or not buy the product Edit - removed by author....I was piling-on.)

@virtuali, please continue to provide detailed answers when questions arise about your products, and the next time you're in that secret meeting with all the major payware devs about how your group is going to steer the future of commercial addons, please be sure to encourage all the devs in attendance to interact with their customers in these public forums.  If you have a solid product, worthy of asking money for it, you should have no issues coming here and dropping a few lines to clear up any misconceptions us crazy simmers will conspiracy-theory to death, if left unchecked. 😲

@raymar,  I agreed with your assessment, I too believed that including a larger area around the airport would be the "status quo" for scenery as we remember in the "old days" (hehe), but I think we can all be satisfied and grateful the dev chimed in and set us straight, and explained that if he were to make it in the fashion of previous sims, we'd still be waiting for it and it would cost more. I can't wait to see if more is developed for this area and Florida in general, as it's a great area to explore.

When reading the last few pages about future 3rd party sceneries we need to keep in mind that Virtuali is speaking about the limited coverage area and restrictions of LiDAR for only certain areas, in this case Key West.

Other devs that are working on, say New Orleans, don't seem to be confined to just the runways and ramps - they are looking at adding improvements for downtown, classic bridges, long approach paths and such. Sure, it might take a little more time and effort and may even cost a few dollars more, but, to me that is the difference between value and cost.

In the case of the FSDT Key West airport (not Key West) the value and the cost are close to one and the same. Should the NAS be included along with the Key West Harbor area with all the marine activity and Cruise Ship terminals, then the value would be much higher IMHO.

The only thing I can agree ( sort of ) to, was that we might add some detail to the NAS, because I DID flew there, as a passenger with some pilot friends, with a GA plane many years ago, and I do recall very well how careful the guy piloting was during the approach, not to stray off course because of the nearby military. But this can be always sorted out with updates later.

That would be excellent!!!

Give me a place to park my upcoming MilViz AC!

Picked it up last night and got to fly out of it this evening.  Really nice looking and no frame rate issues that I can sense.   Would have been cool if they had included an update for Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas.  Flew out there and found what appeared to be several houses but no "fort".

Don't worry Alex, seeing you're new here, and seem to be the co-dev of this package (not sure how it all works between you and FSDT)....most of us here are truly excited to see devs listening to us in these forums, and posting updates so quickly afterwards!

Everyone will catch on and start replying in kind.

I'm just waiting until I get off work to fly from Tampa to the Keys with this new scenery in place! 🙂   Thank you and FSDT for this package!

@Alex.C

Alex- yes, thanks!! Did you happen to see my request about KW NAS and the Southern Most Point in the US Monument?

Love the way ONE UPDATER takes care of everything!

Thanks, I have been collaborating with Fsdreateam for 14 years, I create the 3D graphics of most of the scenery from O 'Hare to KEYW passing through all the others of Fsdreamteam.
