I have no intention of being "that guy" ... you know the one that rushes in and spends their rent money on a VR headset as a personal xmas present and then gets massively disappointed as it does not quite work as expected on initial release.

I think I will wait a few months until the dust settles before diving into VR.

The flightsim VR dust finished settling a good few years ago, though it’s cheaper and better than it was in 2015.

With regards to MSFS specifically, the only comment i’ve heard around the web is that VR performance “isn’t great”. I guess we’ll know what it’s actually like in a matter of hours, so that particular dust should be well settled by tomorrow!

I'm expecting nothing,  and the big surprise will probably some wack Santa's sleigh landing challenge or something.

/not particularly optimistic.  I'd be happy to see a nice high quality aircraft,  even a payware one.

vehicles not driving on taxiways and runways... cant believe this is not a bigger issue with the community.

I'm sure there are a plenty of us who want that fixed - it certainly irritates me. But since it doesn't prevent you landing and taxiing, it's a minor glitch until the major issues are fixed.

Guys, just go out right now and buy a cheap device to get you in the VR game (Quest 2 is a fantastic starter option).

£300 or £400 isn't exactly chump change, especially if you've already spend a lot of your hard-earned on a new PC/component upgrades and/or controllers (or are waiting for those to actually be available again).

Oh, and I'll accept any updates which don't break anything!😊

You are late, very late, to the VR party, but welcome. You’re going to love flying with an HMD.

I know. I‘ve been toying with the idea for years but it never seemed to be the right time. Either I didn‘t have the time, the money, a rig powerful enough or just other priorities. Also the quality didn’t quite convince me. I tried a racing game 2 years ago and it was too blurry for me. Now with the arrival of the new sim, a new generation of headsets and more time at home due to that annoying virus it seemed to be the right time to take the plunge. I‘m sure I‘ll enjoy it.

The Quest 2 is the cheapest headset in my region, and it costs 450€ from just one shop. Looking at the price history it hasn't really been sold for less than that in the two months it's been available in here. And the Rift S which is available at a similar price actually cost a lot more before the pandemic so I'm not sure what to say.

B08HHD6S26 The Oculus Quest 2 64GB is priced at 349€ at Amazon Italy, France & Spain according to Hagglezon if that helps?

No, particularly if the poster is elderly or frail, I would highly recommend the 'Richie's Plank Experience' to begin. It seems to feature prominently on the 'VR to ER' subreddit, which - btw - is an excellent resource for working out what not to do with your new HMD: https://www.reddit.com/r/VRtoER/

I am an IFR pilot, and I want to fly a simulator, not a pretty flying game. I like the weather to be accurate and follow the seasons. I want airliners where the buttons and dials work, autopilots that follow a plan, both for direction and flight levels. I like to start from Cold and Dark, and follow a checklist, turn on the systems in order, load a flight plan with the latest AIRAC data. Then I want the aircraft to fly "straight and Level" and in trim, and if I need to make some adjustments, I don't want the plane to collapse into a death spiral.   I want aircraft I can fly in VATSIM. I want aircraft like  Zibo 737 or Rotate MD80 in X-Plane.
I can hear, "well, go back to X-Plane," but I bought Microsoft FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2020, not Microsoft Flight.

You asked "what am i looking for".

You'll be waiting a long time.....Meanwhile, try one of the many community modifications available for the default aircrafts.

Indeed.  A year or two most likely as procedure and airline simulations does not seem to be a focus of Asobo at all and the aftermarket guys are not hopeful of anything much before 2022 either.

It is probably a bit pointless to bother pointing it out BUT in this particular area Microsoft cannot really be accused of false advertising, The promo videos were full of VFR in light aircraft with the odd very rare glimpse of an airliner and no suggestion of complex systems at all.

So you want 3rd party aircraft. I take it you are trolling or simply haven’t tried any of the brilliant mods people have made for the CJ4, A320, Bonanza, Cub, or TBM, or the Garmin GPS units.  I’m sure I missed some.

So because you disagree he's a troll?

I can’t believe it’s almost 2021 and so many simmers have never flown in VR! Guys, just go out right now and buy a cheap device to get you in the VR game (Quest 2 is a fantastic starter option).

VR and flight simulation are made for each other.

Rob,

Do you recommend this one?

I hate that they went with the color white.
