Just did the tutorial. Wow! what an experience! I‘m feeling like a child on Christmas.

Yeah, I was going to do that. Any suggestions?

For simulators: IL-2 Sturmovik, Assetto Corsa, iRacing - I am not sure how well racing sims works if you don't have wheel & pedals, but it might be worth a shot.

Action: Half-Life: Alyx, Superhot VR

Beat Saber

Oh and to answer the topic question, the ice and snow (plus bug fixes)

Try it with DCS, XP, or P3D, if you've got them.  I also find Star Wars Squadrons (a good test for motion sickness) and Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Handgrenades VR (H3VR) to be fun guilty pleasures.

My only hope is that they won't break anything else in the sim.

I would very much recommend that you install some other VR titles today and start using it. Most people need some time to adjust their body to using a VR headset. If not it could turn into a pukefest tomorrow 🙂 It is normal to feel nausea when starting to use VR.

First thing to try is a VR rollercoaster...!😵

Personally, I wish , integrated replay feature.(other than the above expectations)

Just thinking about the ice...  if these ice formations are to be put in place on lakes and around coastlines, I wonder if this is why they got rid of all of the tropical water masks beforehand; to enable a global update of all the costal water effects?

It may be a similar principle to add ice floes / tropical water masks to the scenery, so they may put them all in the sim together.  That may be a long shot, but we can only hope!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Personally I'm hoping for the flashing clouds and coastline glitch to be finally fixed. Those two issues have completely ruined my experience, and if they are gone, that should be enough for me to come back to the simulator. While it's not something I need right now, it will be exciting to see how snow and ice will be implemented. More enabled water masks, or at least an update regarding their progress on the water masks, would be nice too.

Watermasks, and night lighting, airport lighting fixes, and I hope they optimize and make the size of the individual light orbs to make them dynamic instead of fixed. The lights don't look as crisp when playing in resolutions above 1080p, the higher you go, the larger and blurrier the lights look.

I hope they do a better implementation of snow than what they did with the over icing effect on aircraft.

You are late, very late, to the VR party, but welcome. You’re going to love flying with an HMD.

I can’t believe it’s almost 2021 and so many simmers have never flown in VR! Guys, just go out right now and buy a cheap device to get you in the VR game (Quest 2 is a fantastic starter option).

VR and flight simulation are made for each other.

Are those cheap headsets costing less than 80€ worth the effort even? In my region, headsets from the more reputable brands start at around 450€. Interestingly, I cannot find anything in the 80€ to 450€ range except for a couple of PlayStation VR bundles.

Less than 80 Euro?? Not sure what you’re looking at, but stay away from it.

You want the Quest 2, which is USD$299 for the 64GB model. Pair it with a $15 Anker link cable and you now have hi-end PCVR for flight simming.

You can spend a lot more than that if you really want to, but the overall gains are modest.

The Quest 2 is the cheapest headset in my region, and it costs 450€ from just one shop. Looking at the price history it hasn't really been sold for less than that in the two months it's been available in here. And the Rift S which is available at a similar price actually cost a lot more before the pandemic so I'm not sure what to say.

Anyway I can only find six standalone headsets and three kits being sold across all online stores in my region, made by Oculus, Acer and HTC. Very poor range of choices and availability, and exceptionally poor prices. I guess it will be several years until I can actually consider one.

About those 80€ headsets, well it turns out that you have to place a smartphone inside it for a picture. I had no idea such a thing existed. Still, I guess there would be too much latency while streaming from the PC and screen-door effect involved so I won't bother.
