Trees as far as you can see

I prefer the one from this site.

https://www.flightsimulator.blog/2020/12/29/increase-trees-draw-distance/

It is a bit more advanced now (things move quickly in the community!)

It has a few more tweaks, as well as correcting heights for all the trees.

I have flown with it today and I think it is great.

PS. Version 1.7 is the latest, but it should always show the latest version at the bottom of the page anyway.

Yes that's the one I liked the most.

Thank you Bob.

What! How did you manage? I can't see myself away from this:sEg93Kl.png

Too many mods to explore. 😀

BTW this extended LOD mmod is off the hook!

Those pictures are superb!   I am switching between the Mooney and the new Piaggio and have never enjoyed the sim so much, especially with this new vegetation tweak.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

So true, VFR flying went to the next level. This is one of the best things happened to FS2020 so far. Hopefully Asobo will include this in the next Sim Update. 🙂

I wonder if there is a setting to bring the buildings in a bit earlier as well.  Although I don't seem to get much popping recently after the last few updates.

Scenery wise, if they can fix the morphing coastlines, mountains, and valley's, and give us some nice water masks, I will be fairly satisfied.

The community have done a great job with fixing thinks up to now.  I got rid of all of my scenery spikes with the patch on flightsim.to.  That seems to work great.

If you go into UserCfg.opt there is a section under Graphics for 'ObjectsLoD'.  You can experiment with that setting and see if you get a change. I think it does as I changed mine to 5.25 from 1.25 and seems to increase the distance but I have not tested much yet as I only started messing with it last night.  I did notice custom bridges are visible much further out but still need to test AI buildings as they are a bit harder to notice.  I need to test with an AI city since those are usually not visible too far out in the distance.

Yes.  Thanks must go to PropellerBC over at the flightsim.to site, but also the guys at https://www.flightsimulator.blog/ for picking this up and improving it.

I am not sure who is behind that site, but I have just had a look around and it is an interesting read.  Plenty of good screen grabs as well.  I have added the site to my daily scan list!

I’d love a screenshot of the same scene with both mods? Anyone upto it?

There are comparison pictures on this web page, which is also an interesting read about the technicalities of it and how the tweak developed.

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/vegetation-draw-distance-fix/343119

Also, it seems the person that is claiming discovery of the fix is someone called WeptBurrito2749.

Some people like his fix, posted for him by PropellerBC at flightsim.to.  The preference is just subjective, like liveries on the plane you fly.  You can't go wrong with either really.

Okay, one topic about two mods, not quite handy. Which one does everyone use here? Or are both used and do both have pro's and con's? Is it a matter of personal preference? Do they do the EXACT same or are there differences? Are there any screenshots comparing both mods with default (with the same ingame settings)? I am interested but also a little bit lost. Obviously I can try them both but testing takes a lot of time with this slow loading MSFS. 😉

By no means scientific, but I prefer the fsblog mod. Looked at both the xml files side by side in Notepad++ and the range of values looks to be greater and more diverse in the fsblog offering. And to me it looks better.

Yes, the comparison pictures between these two mods at MSFS Forums were taken from the early versions. FSblog mod has been upgraded a lot after that.

Trying not to go too much off topic, but this looks interesting as well.  It would be great if all of these tree tweaks could be combined.

I know there has been some work on this by others already, and some has gone payware, but apparently this will be freeware, and Rob Ainscough is involved!

I also use the fix for the glitches of the last Update and the treemod and it looks stunning at Glacierpark

Just to add my $0.02 worth: I already could see trees far into the distance, but tried the new mod anyway out of curiosity and found that it caused CDTs -- very rare in my experience. After several trials to confirm that this mod really was causing the CTDs, I deleted t. The moral I take from this is that if you have plenty of trees without the mod, don't use it.

I'm about to try this, but doesn't setting your LOD to 125 mess up photogrammetric buildings in cities?

Really? I am hoping not because LOD 125 removes the stutters that occur at 200...

Are you sure you didn't already had some kind of tree height mod installed? I can't tell any other reason why you could see trees much far in the distance already without this latest mod.
