Trees as far as you can see

Featured Replies

This is such a wonderful mod, totally happy and back flying again low and slow in regions with mountains, something that was hardly possible anymore due to the ridiculously low LOD of trees. For such things I simply love the simming community, great job.

Last test for today: Africa. Again... the blog mod only seems to have lower (than default) trees and that's it. In these screenshots bushes seem unaffected. So to me the only difference between the mod really seems to be a lower than default tree hight with the blog mod and default tree height with the OP's mod. Just comparing both mods here, don't have time for yet another default screenshot. Click on the picture and swith between them with the arrow keys: you will clearly see the trees go up and down.

OP's mod:

Blog mod:

tup, I love your comparisons shots but just have to point out that it's not the OP's mod. I understand your just using that as a way of pointing to the mod from the OP and it's just semantics, but I wanted to point out in case someone took it the wrong way that I didn't have anything to do with the mod other than posting about it.

I just tried the OP mod and it looked good. Performance for my medium system, 6700/1070Ti/32 gb is virtually unchanged with this mod, medium trees/100 LOD. Will try the blog mod later. Definitely makes the world look better. I’ll certainly be keeping one of these.

That's why Iike it so much. On my 980ti I run at high settings with a LOD of 100. If I crank that up to 200 I see a good hit. If I instead keep it at 100 and use the mod, then I see no fps hit and the draw distance exceeds what 200 would have provided for me in the first place.

I did notice a few issues with random trees, or bunches of trees popping up on farmland which looked a little strange. This is north of Oakland, with the mod the OP posted. 😉 Will check the blog mod tomorrow in the same area.

After all the testing yesterday I am finally doing my first regular flight with the 'blog mod' starting from KBZN, Bozeman, Montana, and boy... this mod (these mods) is (are) utterly awesome! I finally have my alpha version back LOL! Things look real again! No naked mountains all around me anymore! Trees indeed as far as I can see! Awesome! This is sooooooooo much better and so much more immersive! A night and day difference! Yes, I am extremely happy with this mod! 😃

As a bonus feature, I believe with more trees in the far distance, it is now helping to mask the effect of the distant blurry scenery and lack of buildings.

You can see 'stuff' sticking up in the distance now, which of course is the trees as they come into view, but it just seems populated in the distance now now rather than just a flat mushy nothingness in the distance.

This is indeed a brilliant little tweak, and with a few tweaks to my settings, has transformed the sim for me.

By the way, he has added a newer Version 1.7.1 this morning.  There are no patch notes, but I will try to compare the files later to see what has changed, and then give it a test!  😃

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

For me Buildings set to High is very enough and as Ultra it gives a bit more distance for buildings to show up. With tree mod I don't need any buildings further than they already are due to trees everywhere blending the view beautifully. No houses could even be seen behind the trees. 🙂

Yes very true - this is exactly it!  👍

After comparing the files, I found the recent changes to the file (1.7.1.) are just very minor tweaks to some tree sizes (subtropical and acacia etc.).

I just tested.
It's complicated to see the difference when you are in IFR it passes too quickly near the ground ...

By cons I also tested a little on the ground it takes me about 2FPS less I have the LOD set to 200 with a 1080.

So in IFR I don't know if this is really necessary

But, you also have LOD at 200 which isn’t really necessary in IFR 😉

The point of the mod is to show more trees at a distance.
The trees are adjusted to be slightly smaller or to realistic heights, but the main point is that you don't just get a small radius of trees around the aircraft, they should stretch to as far as you can see in the distance.

OK, OK, for a long-time FS player, I don't know how to change the LOD for MSFS 😀.  How ?\
