Are you sure this will be tomorrow? The development roadmap

https://www.flightsimulator.com/development-roadmap/

states under June 24th: 06/TBA. Usually it dropped the Tuesday before the named Thursday, that would be on 22nd.

Agree.  Has without exception been on Tuesdays.  Only a hotfix or two arrived on other days of the week.

Placing files in Community (or removing files from it) has no effect whatever on the basic MSFS program operations. Therefore it is not necessary to do anything with Community prior to updates. Moreover, if you use Add-on Linker (highly recommended), no files at all are ever placed in Community, as only links to files are put there. I will add that Updates to MSFS have no effect on Community.

From the Flight Simulator website:-

"World Update V: Nordics will be available for download next Thursday, June 17th! We hope you enjoy this free update full of new points of interests and airports throughout Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Iceland."

For me

The Good: I work Sun-Thurs. two days off to enjoy.

The Bad: If anything goes wrong, they won't be fixing it this weekend for sure.

Time to check through the community folder for installed scenery which may bork it. I'm worried about Iceland Overhaul which I've really enjoyed.

lets hope he will adapt it..

I know this is a world update but I hope they also help with the numerous CTD's some people have been experiencing.

AMD 9800X3D,  NZXT X73 RGB AIO COOLER, Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7, 64GB 6000MHZ RAM, 4TB Samsung Pro NVME, 4 TB Crucial P3+ NVME, 4TB Crucial SSD, Gigabyte Gaming OC Geforce RTX5090, Antec C8 ARGB Case, X55 JOYSTICK/THROTTLES, LG 4K C4 42" TV/Monitor 120 Hz, 2 Dell 1080 monitors. Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Bravo Throttle. Thrustmaster TPR Pedals. Moza AB6 FFB Joystick, Pimax Crystal Light VR, Tobii Eye tracker, Steelseries Arctis 7+ Wireless Headphones.

Another thing, if for whatever reason you have edited any files in the Official folder (like using the ICAO phraseology mod), revert those changes as it can cause issues like files looping during the update download.

What exactly do you gain by doing this??  It seems to me that you might as well just leave the folder alone.. 😉

If you rename the folder, then the update can't find it. Like calling for Charlie, when his name was changed to Sam.

The thing is... MSFS updates do not touch the Community folder, so why hide it?

So why does Asobo ask people to clear out the community folder before updating?

I believe they ask for this if you run into problems after an update..

Bert

Because they don't want customers complaining that the update has broken the simulator because as addon has been made incompatible by the changes they made to the simulator. This has happened several times already, the issue with .cgl files being one example. As mentioned already, the updates do nothing to the Community folder itself.

Most of the problems with addons are either due to a change made to the core simulator or to a previously unknown conflict with another addon. One of the basic ways of troubleshooting an addon in the Community folder with a problem is to rename the Community folder, create a new one and move the problem addon alone into it. If it then works, the simulator can be ruled out and the conflicting addon searched for. This is the same principle used by Asobo, if there is nothing in the Community folder and there is a problem, the Community addons can be ruled out and any customer complaints will be about something that they can then fix.

Does anyone know if there is anything other than the Nordic update in this update.  I do not fly anywhere but Australia so I will get nothing in this update.  I am sure that it will be a mandatory one and we will all have to undergo the trauma, I assume, but I have been led to believe that this was to be downloaded specifically from the marketplace.

I guess what I am saying is that if it is included in a mandatory update, we will then have to delete it from the community or official folder. Is this correct?
