Seafront: Vessels Enhanced AI and Global Shipping!

Featured Replies

Bought this today, looks very nice and as suggested, this product and the Henrik AI ships complement each other nicely from what I’ve seen so far.

One humble suggestion I would make is don’t worry too much about increasing the download size/hard drive space when it comes to adding more models…bandwidth and storage are cheap!

That's correct. These two products are different from our 'main' line of purely coastal sceneries.

Just got the AI+global shipping via orbx (note also have your st martin coastal product installed) and really liking it so far however had a couple of questions:

1)A little confused about how ship wakes have been implemented - so far have tried a few flights around Tokyo Bay/HK/Singapore - saw many nice ships but most were completely static (perhaps because these are harbours?:) - but did see a couple of larger ships in Tokyo moving with the proper moving wake effect (which was very impressive) although strangely also saw a few smaller ships which looked to have a strange static/fixed wakes around them (even though the ship was not really moving !) as well as some sail boats (they were moving with a full sail but producing no wake) - what should I expect to see and is there any setting I need to select (except for the ships >60%) to get everything working how it was intended?

2)How will this work with the freeware traffic add on? (are they likely to complement each other or is it better to run one or the other?)

also just bought today and interested to give it a try with the Henrik AI - however one suggests using a 6% setting the other a >60% what were you using to get the best effect?

I have it at 60, I believe that is the minimum for the payware to work.

I think the reason for 6% with the Henrik AI was to prevent the default AI ships from appearing, however given that the payware AI replaces default models I think this now less of an issue.

Well, I just took a flight around SF Bay and saw lots of ships and boats but only saw wakes behind the sail/powerboats and nothing behind the ships which appeared to be steaming toward the Golden Gate in a column of twos. I think I was running ships @ 80%. I purchased through ORBX. I'll try disabling Henrik's mod later and see what happens.

Hi Yoyo...

Thanks for the explanation, the situation becomes a little clearer because the descriptions in ORBX store are very limited ;).

Personally, I would be interested in the better traffic only (I can live with default models firstly), so it's a pity there is no such a version for me. So something like Vessels: Global Shipping only (with default MSFS models) but its needs Vessels: Enhanced AI so again boils down to the fact that it should be a bundle if it requires it anyway. Perhaps it would be more logical to have:

1 / new models only (which would overwrite the default models)

2 / better and more traffic using new models from the 1th addon or default (if you havent it) in such a situation but its my opinion of course

(and a little cheaper for us, after the turmoil in my job and salaries cuts due Covid situation, maybe I should consider each purchase of anything more carefully than before 😉 ).

Regards and happy good day!

I'm looking forward to this, I have try Henriks add on, it works ok, but I don't like the short hiccups when the ships are loading in.

You’re right. To me this is a dealbreaker, that’s why I ended up uninstalling it

I have a question, as I am a huge fan of approaches that are sea-side.

Presumably this would also look nice as you're coming in low and slow for a landing from the sea?

My question is: does this addon make sense for folks who mostly fly IFR?

Another question: does this also add ship traffic to seas, lakes, and rivers?

That is absolutely correct - the 6% was set not to see the default ships and I never wanted to mess with the default ships as it sometimes has a price when updates are rolled out, but on my own rig i always replaced the default ships with nicer models, which is what the Enhanced AI product does - but you can also do that yourself  if you are on a budget.

As I can read it, it is just the 14 default models which are replaced with the Enhanced AI and then the second products adds another 5 models, so if what you look for is just to fill the oceans, not to have this emptiness, then these two products does it, but it is the same 19 ships all over. For those on a budget I will give an explanation of the steps to take to replace the default models once I am back near my own MSFS rig sometime next week. It will be free, but it will be on your own risk when Asobo changes everything... again... 😄

I'd like to share here Henrik's answer to my question about the difference between those 2 approaches, I hope this will make things clearer for everyone:

ME: What I don’t understand, if I set all my boats sliders to 6% like instructed, I barely see any sail boats. I was in the Carribeans today and nothing. IRL it’s full of sail boats and yachts…
So maybe the 6% are only for ferries and big ships ?

HENRIK: You have in MSFS and also P3D/FSX two types of “boats” or “ships” which are adjusted in different ways. “Leisure boats” and “Ships and Ferries”. “Leisure boats” spawns while “Ships and Ferries” follows predetermined routes.

The Global AI Ship Traffic is regulated in “Ship and Ferries”. It does include sail boats but mostly larger ones like Tall Ships, Volvo Ocean Race sailboats, some classic sail boats etc which sails on predetermined routes. There are also a few small private sailboats, but only on routes in a limited number of areas. So if you put “Ships and Ferries” at 6% and “Leisure Boats” at 0% you will only see very few small sailboats.

As mentioned Leisure boats in MSFS are programmed to spawn near cities and they do not follow routes.

This means that you can put the sliders for Leisure Boats at 100% - that will not interfere with Global AI Ship Traffic which is regulated by Ships and Ferries. As the Leisure Boats spawns instead of following routes they are also very performance friendly, so you can even at a low end rig move the leisure boat slider up without worries.

Moving the Ships and Ferries beyound the 6% however means that you will get the same big default ships repeated all over the Globe - and that also goes if you purchase the Enhanced AI as I can read on Avsim this morning that it just replaces the 14 default ships. Even with the Global Shipping product you only get 5 more ships, so basically as I mentioned previously in a couple of posts - these products can increase your density of ships, but not the diversity as all in all they just contain 19 ship models compared to 1300 in the Global AI Ship Traffic…

Some of the smaller boats included in GLobal AI Ship Traffic - the start of the Volvo Ocean Race near Cardiff - Screenshot from P3D as I am far from my MSFS computer.

My conclusion: I'll buy Enhanced AI and put the leisure boats slider to 100% and use Henrik's addon for the rest and put "Ships and Ferries" to 6%

You may see them as ants if you look up closely, I think this add-on is more interesting for GA pilots.

I noticed yesterday during a flight just North of Seattle, that a ships wake from a certain distance and angle looked like a pulsating line - not very realistic at all.

Somewhere in this or the other thread they said "No", due to MSFS limits (as always). Can't find the post right now
