SU 5: The best and worst version so far

I've watched countless videos now of the horrifying pop-in from panning the camera. I'm hoping they are Xbox versions people are passing off as PC

It seems the world doesn't exist until you look at it

i see none of those and certainly not on the series x.

I see no popping at all, in fact, increased LOD from 100 to 150 and autogen is displayed way further with no performance issues.

If you don't want to have problems, don't download a major update of anything (let alone something as open-ended as a flight simulator) on day1. Wait a couple of weeks till the first hotfix comes out (as I did with P3D 5.2) In this case because performance is one of  my major gripes with MSFS I'm downloading now and prepared to be part of effectively a gamma test, which is what Day 1 releases are.

Do you have MFS? Its sim updates have always been mandatory and are pushed to everyone at the same time, I'm not aware of a way to avoid them (although presumably you can disconnect your internet, but then you've got horrific offline scenery)

Best? Dont know so far... The "baddies" are taking over to much... E.g In and around here in Swedem, ESSA, ESSB, ESKN etc... all messed up! No bulidings, somtime buildings (???) no bridges, half bridges, trees at the "wrong" place etc etc. Somtime the scenery looks "P3Dish"... A mess to say the least... Better preformance? a bit but not that WOW feeling im afraid...

So I dont know... And If I could choose, YES I would go back to what it was before this update... at least for now. Sad to say...

This sounds like something is not right on your installation, maybe due to MS server overload, or maybe you haven't installed all the updates in the Content Manager yet (?). The scenery itself should not be degraded from the update, except for MS server issues and/or some LOD related issues and popping in after looking around and changing the viewing direction.

The "P3Dish" look hints a lot to server problems on MS' side. I had this a while ago, should go away by itself once MS adds more capacity for MSFS. Can't hurt to delete the rolling cache on your computer though, just to be sure...

My simming system: AMD Ryzen 5800X3D, 32GB RAM, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, LG 38" 3840x1600

I have tried and delete rolling cahce, no luck... but its not like the scenery popping up, when getting closer, sometimes the buildings and trees just wanish, dissapear...

I did a complete new and fresh install of MSFS tonight, so all should be fine... I guess. The only wolrld update I have cared about is the "nordics" since I only fly in and arund Sweden. Just to make sure, I dont need e.g Japan, UK and etc to make the scenery look right and better/correct???

So now I went and flew around ESSA and ESSB like buspelle was doing. After a long and low flight I now have to say this version is better than the old one. Scenery is not quite as good as the old but no steady microstutters. And framerates in these kind of areas used to be about 36. Now 54.

Scenery can pop (as if the Great Gardener is watering the grass, turning it into a green path in front of my approach).

But it is very pleasant. CPU peaked at 5 GB and GPU was running 3.5 to 3.9 GB (settings all on Ultra), Ryzen 3600, 2060 Super, 2K monitor.

I think someone with 8 GB memory and 4 GB video mem could actually run this sim.

I guess I'm going to have to change my mind and say I like it.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

How can you not see it? I finally installed this awful update and the videos weren't lying. Specs in sig, 1GB internet.  This is atrociously awful.  I recorded this myself over Philadelphia. Full screen it and enjoy popcorn popping every time you pan the camera. ENTIRE BRIDGES POP IN.

How does ANYONE find this acceptable?

This is the very definition of "It's not a bug, it' a feature"

Putting MSFS to bed for awhile. This is simply unacceptable lunacy.

plenty of us find it acceptable 👍

it's a small price to pay for how the sim looks and performs, hopefully they'll provide a config file or UI change you can make to get back the old performance and lack of pop-on, I certainly think people should have a choice

as I've said before - it's not possible to have full autogen and photogrammetry as far as you can see in all directions in 4k on current hardware, there are compromises to be made

perhaps the next step for Asobo is to allow us to decide which compromise is best for us

@styckxI guess people have difference tolerances/sensitivity to that sort of thing because it seems okay to me in that video. Yes I can see the distant popping on pan, but I don't think it will result in the end of all human life as know it (despite what several threads on Avsim might have you believe)

I find it astonishing how people get so riled over things that quite simply, are not a big deal.

It might bake your noodle to hear this, but... that's how 3D rendering largely works.  The bits not on screen largely aren't rendered, or are held in memory at much lower detail.

@Slides It's a bit like complaining your car is noisy inside and you prove it by driving 130 mph with the windows open. Just about anything can be made to look bad if it's used in a certain manner; such as panning the camera so fast I feel sick.

To me the most immersion breaking part of the sim are the screen space reflections that melt in and out when obstructed.

However as an adult I understand that this can't change until DX12 ray tracing (if that ever happens) so I don't throw a tantrum on the forums and live with it

Are we really so happy that an AAA title game runs so great on a mid-low spec-ed PC?

If Aboso did such a great job with performance gains, then why did they need to make looking right, then left looking out the side windows (which I like to do when scanning the scenery using left/right camera view) have such god-awful immersion-breaking pop ups, ground texture filling-in that takes a second or so to get into focus? It's so noticable. Didn't have that last week. Nice "feature". Thanks.

What good is having a 3080 or a even a super 2080 if nothing is gained?

If MSFS - with my 5700xt looked a little bit better than SU4, i would be estatic. But (i know what i see) my sim looks worse. I see it. I knew i should have take screen shoots a few days ago to compare to know, but I know what I see. As soon as I started up MSFS with SU5,

And I going to rant all night? No, it's not the end of the world, and I understand MS has to go where the money is (xbox) but just remember this:

The Xbox specs will be the same next month as it will be in two years. PC parts will be FASTER and BETTER next year. MSFS probably can not get "visually" better, because the sim has to run on the components the Xbox has spec-ed.  So when the 3090 or 3080ti next years get cheaper, will these cards be worth buying to get a better experience in two years?  Will the pop up, side refreshing every be removed? I doubt it. It's an immersion killer for me. Looks less perfect - yes, this past weekend, it look perfect to me. Even just on "high" setting.

If you fly the PMDG DC6, and look at the gauges in the cockpit, pre and post Su5 downgrade, you will notice a much lower resolution look to the gauges, and the lettering on the panels in the VC. Guess that is one of the ways they got more FPS. Probably will look OK on an X box S

It's to make them feel important. The pop in in the video posted above is so minor as to almost not matter. And he had to pan outside of the aircraft to get that.

I've noticed it's mainly those who post their latest hardware specs in their bio too who seem to feel the most entitled and quite frankly not happy about all of the rest of us actually enjoying the sim and its improved performance.
