No issues with updates ever, including the present one (up to one where I (and many others) had to restart a few times because of hangups at a few files, but this was an exception.) Initially, I was determined to show loyality to their system, but not at the price of continuous hassle. Kind regardy, Michael Michael, I debated about the right way to buy it before the Sim came out last August. Having seen so many issues that others had I am glad I chose the Steam route. Likewise, and also made the decision to go Steam at the start... interestingly, the actual update from within MSFS2020 seemed an aweful lot faster than previous updates as well. Updates has always been an issue for me... not because they go wrong, but because of how long they take... yesterday, I was fully updated and all the content updates and new world updates done in little more than about 10 minutes.. Colour me surprised because I had planned lots of things to do whilst updating, and didn't get to do any of them 🙂 I was flying my test flights 15 - 20 minutes after I started the update. Hadn't even finished my beer 🙂 Graham Edited September 8, 20214 yr by Moria15 System specs... I think its a hardware thing, MS built or rented more because of new xBox users. xBox console so popular they're hard to find for sale at the suggested price. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Not sure how you got that out of my post, Dillon. I am commenting on the state of MSFS as of the latest update. Sure the next SU update will break a few things but MSFS is getting there. Due to there being a symbotic relationship as client (you) and server (Microsoft) where both are mutually dependent. e.g the server will need a particular client version to match with the server version. Yeah they could allow a client maybe a version or two backwards but as MSFS is looked upon as a monolithic release, all users at the same level means less dev and support problems in the longer term (also they get a wider range of beta testing crew). Plus it's a game... it not as though MS has millions of dollors tied up in a single org's deployment, where the org's money they $pend talk$. Pity about the pain though, just look at it as a Windows 10 feature update. Matt from Working Title explained why it wouldn't happen, here is the thread with Matt's explanation. You're best bet is to join the people pushing for a public "opt in" beta where the entire player base have the option to opt into the beta. That is something productive and tangible, that we can convince Asobo/Microsoft to do. Vote here on the "opt in" beta topic so we can get a response from Asobo at the next Twitch Q&A: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/the-beta-program-clearly-isnt-working-when-will-you-open-it-up-to-an-opt-in-branch-like-most-other-sims-games-have/442713/148 Edited September 9, 20214 yr by abrams_tank i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM
September 9, 20214 yr The update on the MS Store was straight forward for me, I suppose I'm getting used to what we have to do for it to update without any problems. I also think the key is to make sure no mods are messing with the update process. @Dillon I'm afraid we are stuck with the mandatory updates as others have said, just look at it as a necessary pain in the backside. There are imperfections (fossile clouds for instance) but scenery and mesh in WU6 DACH are the best I ever saw. Cute small airfields everywhere. Very nice autogen. This is what I want imagery, mesh, autogen, not gamey addons. The simulation is very smooth on my old machine. This is flying the Cub at 3 to 7000 feet. I will not give up asking (and loudly for that) for a better weather, better UI , no morphing, no shimmering, better balance of white etc. but the Summer of 2021 was an important marker in the life of the sim. September 9, 20214 yr I am really looking forward to SU6 after all of this. Hopefully DX12 will be of some benefit (if included), but I am keen to see what they are working on for the next sim update. I know the updates can be a pain if things go wrong and we get regressions, but lets face it, it is exciting. Personally, now we have a relatively stable sim back, I would prefer them to take a little break and just attend to the little bugs and regressions that have crept in before they take the next leap, but their ambition will not allow for this - they will keep driving on at speed I think.
