Curved Monitors?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone using one of the 32” curved monitors with p3d? I need to replace my old monitor and was wondering if a curved one would be best thanks!

I'm using a curved LG monitor (see specs on my sig), with P3D before and now with MSFS, and I can tell you that to me it would be difficult to go back to use those flat monitors again.

It’s a purely subjective choice. But whilst it may be useful for flight simming it may not be so for general computer work. They came into fashion for TVs some years ago but never lasted. Something to bear in mind.

Generally curved monitors are larger than 32” and don’t support 4K. Max vertical resolution tends to be 1440.

Hi Ray, just to add that even considering my desktop is pretty much used for flight simming, I once in a while use it for general work, browsing, etc. The advantage of the curved monitor I have is that is also ultra-wide, so it allows me to split the screen in several parts when I want to compare or exchange data between two or more open apps.

I have recently bought a new Samsung Odyssey Wide angle monitor. The  pixel resolution of this monitor is 5120 x1440  (48" x 14.5" external size) and I won't be sending it back anytime soon. I can fly in MSFS or Prep3D  without any frame rate  problems. The monitor has G-sync built in. I am really enjoying this new monitor, its biggest negative is that it is heavy and unwieldy getting it setup but I didn't need it to be portable. It also works well with my TrackIR. My Graphics are pushed by a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070.

Hi Ed, clearly it works for you but I just wanted to point out a potential banana skin for the OP. I just love the extra 50% of resolution my BenQ provides.

I use a 47" Curved 4K Samsung TV/Monitor.  I am very happy with it. I use it for both work and play.  However, I have now switched to VR for flight simulation, but I still love my curved monitor. 🙂

Yes they are great for flight sims, but also you are able to open 3 screens at once across the display.

My screen is curved also and I highly recommend it! They typically start at 34" on up.

ASUS VG35VQ TUF Gaming 35" monitor owner here and think its brilliant.
1.8m radius means it's not the most curved you can get, but is enough to give the sensation of peripheral vision when gaming / flight simming.

Like others already on this thread, I work using the same monitor too. I think that the ability to open 2 or 3 program windows is incredibly useful, especially when I can choose the size of each window, rather than be limited to the natural sizes of a multi-monitor setup.

At 'only' 1440p, the monitor is not the 4K experience. But then my (very soon to be replaced) GTX 1070 GPU wouldn't be able to handle the settings I currently use in P3D if it was. Each to their own, of course.

Worth remembering that the benefit of using some of the better retailers is that they would allow you to return the monitor even if you just didn't like it.

Curved monitor is here to stay.

Its the primary design feature for monitors that is bigger than 32 or higher, it gives you that no bezel, wrap around presentation.

Samsung's 49" are good example.

The reason TV doesn't work out is the size format.

Curved works well with wide screen format

I am currently using Benq 35 curved and will never go back to regular screen.

I love my 34" 3440x1440 AOC curved gaming monitor -- and at less than $500 usd I'm very happy with it.  I also run my old 27" monitor along as a right-side monitor

I also have an AOC one.

Run it in GSYNC with no issue.

Also use it for work and play.

Couldnt go back to a regular one.

And I am using the Philips 346B1C monitor 34" with a 3,440 by 1,440 native resolution since abot 6 months. See  https://www.techradar.com/reviews/philips-346b1c for a review.

I am very happy with it using it on the desktop solely intended for P3Dv5. The only thing I miss a bit is the fact that it does not have the 30Hz ability.

Same here...

Running an Acer X34P Predator 34" curved screen with G-Sync and for simming its great. For office work the extra real estate is very useful.   Only downside I have encountered when using for work is when in remote meetings, if I share my screen it really looks small for others in the meeting so some zooming is needed.

The X34P has a small curvature radius so it does not really distract.
