Putting the current version to a rest

Recommended Posts

Just to comment on the atc issue this is most likely the atc having you climb out to 15,000 initially to clear obstacles such as mountains etc....  When you asked for a lower filed altitude it subtracted from the 8000 that you set in the flight plan.  Once you clear the obstacles it would have had you descend to your filed altitude of 8000.

I'm a staunch apologist for Asobo and still am, though SU7 challenges this some.  SU5 I predicted would be troublesome w/ the port to Xbox, but SU6 totally reversed those issues and the sim looked better than ever as most would agree.  So really, the only perplexing thing to me at this juncture is how it is Asobo allows this level of deterioration for a Sim Update.  I think the only plausible explanation as to why they don't prioritize a higher level of QC is they know they have a super winner and feel people won't abandon ship, so are resting a little too much on their laurels.

My chief complaint personally is that the quality of clouds has gone downhill--flying thru them can look downright bad--but in no way do I believe they won't fix and optimize it as with other parts of the sim, going forward.  Plus, the Dev Version of the B787-10 Heavy Division mod I have been using suffered some non-catastrophic troubles with SU7 that HD has addressed in their new stable version, however in doing so I believe they killed the OneWay Importer so I can't continue to use the WorldMap for flight planning as I'm not interested in using SimBrief, which I did not need to use w/ the prior Dev Version.  I think they will restore this function at some point hopfully.

More like thousands, and thousands.....and I'm sure a hefty investment in add-ons for MSFS will eventually apply enough lipstick for it to become acceptable, too.

Can't relate at all to that--I've purchased 5 airports, and uninstalled three of them for reasons I won't go into.  And the default aircraft have been sufficient to keep me busy for 15 months--something that could never have happened w/ the garbage present in P3D/FSX.  Granted, MSFS needs time to mature, but the last thing it needs is lipstick.

I just returned from a weekend at our place at the beach which has the computer I had before MSFS2020 caused me to buy a new computer.  It has FSX installed on that I used for years.

After a few minutes I gave up and said no way. How could I have been so satisfied with this sim all those years.

So, MSFS2020 is so superior, even with it's faults,  that I am willing to enjoy it while they continue to fix bugs and make progress with it. Yeah I get frustrated, but similar to your experience, when I tried to take off this weekend with FSX, I couldn't keep the plane on the runway and eventually crashed.  So like you, I'm taking a rest, but from FSX.

I have spent less than $100 on MSFS, plus a few aircraft. That is it, and it looks great. If you don't think it is acceptable, which sim do you think is better?

It does look absolutely fantastic out of the box, and I have only flown the included aircraft, but the user experience - menus, key bindings, fussing around getting my rudders to work (Saitek, still haven't got them working), sound, flight models -to name a few items...just aren't working for me. I'm happy you are enjoying it, and I certainly didn't mean to ruffle any feathers or trigger anyone, just relaying my disappointment in the functionality of a new sim that I had high hopes for. I do like P3D better (easy there now, my opinion only), but I do have many thousands into it and most all my flying has been IFR/airliner stuff....maybe I'll get used to MSFS after they fix some stuff...it took me a long time to warm to FSX when it first came out, too.

Boy, gotta remember keep my opinions to myself here, a guy can get cancelled right quick.

theres something very wrong with the winds at the moment.

I say from day one, from inception in Aug 2020 there is something wrong with the winds. I only fly the FBWA320, lastest dev. version. Some of their info. indicate that the A320 is very resistant to tail and headwinds, esp. the former. I pay no attention to winds on final approach and have never encountered a cross wind that affected my landing. This only in the US, and I have logged 800+ hours in the FBWA320. The only "winds" I pay attention to in MSMS2020 are the winds of rumors that constantly surround the program.

So I went on to 15.000 when I was told to descend and maintain 9.000.

Beware of MSFS ATC instructing descends to below MSA. Pretty common behavior.

Please help me to name a sim where ATC is perfect because I can't recall one! I do remember some ATC addon that I used over years there were more or less better. When I used to fly P3D and X-plane I never used stock ATC. Do not use ATC or signup to PilotEdge and get ATC as real as it gets!

Having flown now for a few years in VATSIM, closing down the default atc was the first task I did with this sim. Nothing can not beat the realism and challenge of using VATSIM. It´s free and really easy to install. When I´m not flying in VATSIM, I settle for being alone in the world 😀

I just bought the GOTY edition, and as a simmer for the last 35 years, I am disappointed....appalled really, at how rubbish MSFS is. I waited over a year hoping most of the bugs would get worked out, but other than the stunning visuals, this is not a serious sim. I guess the fact that it was designed as a game for a console should have been a clue.... Oh, well, back to P3D.

Agreed!

Sadly all Aboso seems to care about lately is fighter jets and multiplayer air races.  Catering to the console side is definitely hurting us serious simmers who want more attention to the still broken sim parts of this game!

And there is nothing wrong with that! I enjoy flying mach 1.8! LOL

Everytime I have tried Vatsim, I have eventually have  been left alone in the world and on Unicomm. No controllers where I want to fly, or they sign off after I take off , or on approach. The worst was when I would see a controller on line, hurry and set up a flight in his area, fire up the aircraft, and then find out he had signed off.. 🤬

When reaching my destination airport (as somehow expected) my plane did a sudden sharp turn to the left on the runway on touchdown that put the plane on it's side and in the grass next to the runway.

This happened to me last night in the CJ4, but to the right. Rudder control didn’t come back until I was below 20knts. And yes, all assistance settings were off. Well off according to the settings screen.

There are two "reported" issues that may have played a part here:

- The rudder assist is "sticky", it can be on even while it is turned off

- Altitude coding has changed from feet to meters and not all systems have adapted (NXi for example)

A fix for both of these is badly needed IMHO.

I wonder if the winds issue is related to the incorrect cloud altitude problem?  maybe the winds from just above actual ground level are simulated winds from the offset cloud level and then suddenly on touchdown it injects the ground winds if reported by METAR?
