Putting the current version to a rest

Featured Replies

I wish Asobo introduced optional updates instead of mandatory updates for all. That is one of the only few things I really liked about P3D, its freedom to choose whether I want to download an update or use the 'older' version.

Every update has broken things and made the sim worse while making it better in my opinion. For the first time I will be avoiding MSFS 2020 until either a hotfix is issued or the next update is released sometime around January 2022.

Hah!! Has happened to me also, several times, it is annoying.. Sometimes an paranoid idea has come to my mind.. do they sign off because they see that it is ME who is flying... 🤣🤣

Yeah it happens from time to time, the solution is to try and fly when are events. There are a couple every evening and thats how you know you will have guaranteed coverage for a couple of hours.

This i agree with.. The outlandish comments about serious sim we can all do without.

What is your definition of a serious sim though?

I practiced all of my PPL flights in the 'sim' before flying them for real the same day.  I followed the real world checklists, real world maps, used satellite imagery and used a top notch addon aircraft.  Pre-flight planning was done with foreflight and Real VFR maps. I used the same stopwatch I used in the aircraft too.  The real world flight looked just the same out the window, and all the navaids and ground features were used the same.  The weather matched pretty good too, especially the visibility.  I would say that was a serious sim and it helped my training massively.

In MSFS the G1000Nxi is steadily becoming a close match to the real unit.  I subscribe to Foreflight and Jeppesen charts and can practice real world procedures.  I'm not sure why some are so resistant that a home sim like MSFS can be used in a 'serious' way.

Clouds after SU6 were great but towering clouds now look like volcanic Ash from a volcano.

The release of MSFS has led to XPlane 12 development - a good thing I feel as MSFS needs some sort of competition to tighten up its act. I realise MSFS will have a much bigger market share, but if the weather and lighting in XPlane surpass MSFS, it may lead to better sim updates.

I have no doubts Asobo will take MSFS well beyond where it is today--they're really just getting started IMO.  After all, if they wanted to they could revert to SU6 today and be where they were pre SU7.  That they won't really implies they know then can improve on things like weather.  I don't know how much impact XP 12 would have on MS/Asobo they have stated they're in it for 10 years, are working with devs to accomodate more product from devs like PMDG, and weather would never be enough to take me out of the real world that MSFS portrays.  Just yesterday I flew from Caracas to Bogota and was stunned at the quality of terrain and just how compelling seeing something far closer to reality adds to the experience.  IOW, it's really not so much 'eye candy' but reality that is the draw.  In fact, if you fly in areas of the planet that are ugly, they will also be ugly in MSFS!

I keep my Airliners in the hangar, turn off Live Weather and fly GA (VFR) and have no problems at all, even with ATC, so there is no need to putting the current version to rest, at least not for me.

???

Use the software/game/sim as you wish and make of it what you wish.. I think you are missing what i am agreeing on.. There is no need for the constant tiresome debate over it .. It is what you want it to be and frankly I don't care how it is used. What i do care about is not to see tiresome walls of text over this description and everyone sitting in their corner defending their position like any perceived change in description changes the actual software written or how it is used. That's what i am assuming SD was pointing out if i comprehended his post correctly. In the grand scheme of things that's not what this thread was about.

Agreed!

Sadly all Aboso seems to care about lately is fighter jets and multiplayer air races.  Catering to the console side is definitely hurting us serious simmers who want more attention to the still broken sim parts of this game!

"I dunno...one of the best uber immersive (wow...I feel I'm there...) flights was taken this morning between Phoenix and Burbank, California...in the G58, sitting pretty at 12,000 and the world below was simply a knock out!  Because of that...and on final into Burbank...I felt I WAS on final into Burbank.  No other sim, no other can give you that...  yeah...you can be on Final in any sim...but to be flying the approach over VERITAS landscape...THAT makes you feel you are on Final into Burbank. Well, for me, at least... "

Just had another perfect flight on VATSIM in the FBW A320neo.
LIEO - EDDM.

Right into sunset. With lots of people flying from / to Munich. On the downwind I watched the guys landing and departing.

If I think of going back to P3D like someone here said - it would be like being used to a 5 star Ritz-Carlton and then going back to a tent, patched wird 300 addons just do you can identify it as something to sleep in.

But everyone to his own.

Yes, I verified my settings before flight to make sure that no setting were reset to "easy" or something else. It all started well until rolling to the runway, when I already noticed a slight tendency of the rudder to the left. But that might be due to wind I thought. Until I began my fast roll on the runway. It was almost not controllable at all, the plane went randomly left and right. Somehow I made it in the air

I tend to agree with your conclusions about MSFS and the latest SU7. I was hoping for a hotfix too, but no luck so far, and I'm starting to get concerned in some way about SU8 😅.

I solved (maybe a workaround) the rudder issue by setting the auto-rudder to ON in the Assistance menu, that way it's working way better.

In what way have you been ‘cancelled’? All I see is some mildly expressed disagreement?

If that does not work for you, I have found that turning this option off repeatedly and then restarting the flight gets rid of it..

Mandatory updates are for stuff needed to move the sim forward.

That's right and when you have an aggressive development cycle you really need to keep everyone on the page--just imagine the alternative!  This being said, it wouldn't hurt for MS/A to be a little more focused on QC for their SU's.
