I've loved his 'Bible'. Very sad that he passed.

NickN guides were both legendary and gospel, many a FSX rig saw Nick's influence both in the build hardware and its software configuration (my 4770k rig did).  I was fortunate enough to strike up a close friendship (as that LM brat) in his last two years, when he was starting on his final hardware guide, on building a 10900K FSX rig.  I'm greatly saddened by his passing though it was expected, sorry I didn't find about this sooner.  Let us all remember and honor him for his enormous efforts and contributions to the flight sim community.

Nick was not one to accept any sort of gratuity for his efforts, in fact he disdained them with the idea of squashing any perceived conflict of interest.  Before knowing that about him I sent him a few flac encoded 96 khtz 24 bit vinyl rips I made from my vinyl collection, and surprisingly he was most grateful and thanked me graciously along with providing (what he considered were) corrections for their equalization and this kicked off our friendship.  Nick at that time was building up a home theater lounge, which included high-end hifi gear with a Wurlitzer Bubbler jukebox that he restored.  On a particularly crazy and epically huge topic on "his" website's forum, he even posted the recipe that he used for his movie theater style popcorn popper in that lounge...man that guy was 110% (or more) on everything he endeavored.  He didn't take any "horse hockey" from anyone and staunchly wouldn't ever create any himself.  RIP NickN

I was looking for his guide to visit old memories (FSX Steam) and came across this post instead. Very sad to find out that he had passed.  Someone should post the last known version of his guide here as a testament to his contribution to this great hobby.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

Same here. His tutorials were amazing, and he personally guided me through my first overclock over 10 years ago.

RIP

Nick's was one of those legendary names that go back to the early 2000s (possibly earlier) of the hobby.  Nick along with people like J Bogota (another super user who innovated with FSX, as Nick did), Steve of "Steve's Fixer", Pete Dowson, "Radar Man" (from Flyawaysimulation) and a few select others were senior servants of hte hobby.  Many of them helped transformed the then problematic release into something that served many of us for over a decade.  It's funny because I had always thought Nick Needham was a Brit; just sounds like a Brit name.  I'd often imagines him a fine country fellow, in the mold of Pete Dowson. Seems I was wrong and he was a true American legend, living life to the full, unapologetically.

I still have FSX installed on a spare drive, and it still has a CFG file that contains Nick's magic.  That says it all really.

Thank you Nick. Fly high.

How sad. His FSX guide and methodology was a tremendous help back then. It was much appreciated work. I very much appreciated the "directness" of his writing, if I recall it correctly.
