April 11, 20224 yr I dont agree with all this trolling stuff personally, but hey ho. I do think the OP is underestimating the MAJOR improvements that have been made since the launch of MSFS2020. I think their are so many variables between the end users platform, their knowledge of MSFS 2020, their own knowledge, and the simulator/game itself (which is fairly complicated iff you dont use it in its basic format). What I don't get is the original intent of the OPs post other than to stir up controversy. I have been flying MSFS for over a year, and the improvements I have seen are excellent. I now fly, flight after flight, with good performance, great scenery, no CTDs in over a year except one which was my fault, it doesn't get any better than that and I have been simming for around 30 years. I take off, fly, and land with zero problems. Never had that in any sim I have had on my PC.
April 11, 20224 yr Like it or not, it was clear from the get-go (and should have been understood by everyone who purchased this thing) that it was a TEN-YEAR project - gradually becoming a full-featured sim. It's obvious that no one will agree on how this progressions manifests itself but it is certainly heading in the right direction. If it does not satisfy certain users, Xplane and P3D would be better choices. I for one would never go back. Mario Di Lauro
April 11, 20224 yr I dont think that was his intention. Its great to here an actual user such as yourself to say the word "excellent", Bobsk8. I just think/guess that some technical variables take over sometimes for some end users and they can get a bit frustrated. As a non user (ATM) i have to be careful but i look at YT videos, screenshots here and it is looking more awesome than on release. As well as performance improvements and so on. April 11, 20224 yr IBTL :). I feel like the sim has improved a lot, and I have never seen a dev team so invested in continuous improvement as this one.

I can see how someone would ask this question. The Xbox port, which you mention isn't valued by you, was apparently and understandably presumed as critical for survival of the project, was a big deal and was a crossroads: performance in general improved substantially because of work done to make MSFS work on Xbox, and to offset some of these changes new sliders were incorporated to help higher end hardware users take advantage of their assets. It's very easy to brush this off as not satisfying PC users' needs but again, this big change really is subsumed under the sustainability banner. Weather initially looked better in some ways but lacked local METAR and the initial attempts at integration have improved measurably over the past few months, and there is more to come according to Asobo's comments on cloud morphologies in particular. AI traffic takeoffs was restored w/ SU8, and nav lights reappeared sometime after initial release as well. The flight model is undergoing addition of new elements as was mentioned so there was no 'regression' whatsoever in this element. The DX12 was never to be taken as more than an initial intro with no claims of anything beyond that--IOW, like FM this was not a 'regression'. There are some subtle improvements that happened along the way as well relating to CTD and other anomalies. What I see in contrast to what you see, is continual improvement over time. he reality is I fly every day several times in MSFS, already, despite its shortcomings which are being addressed steadily as we move forward. I think the question you pose betrays a narrow view of the scale of this project. While you point to 600 days since release it's critical to appreciate what was created already in MSFS: this is a giant first in innovation of any flight sim, the streaming satellite imagery all free for the taking w/ an exceedingly modest, almost free, initial cost. I paid $200 a pop for v2, v3 and v4 of P3D. I shudder to recall what improvements came to P3D save the port to 64bit which was the only version change worth even $30 to that point in time. To contrast this further is that bastion of smug elitists,. those Xplaners, have been waiting nigh on 1800 days since its last version, with no release yet of its next version which was announced some 200 days ago now. You point out individual components, like ATC, which already has been improved substantially, and does far more already than FSX/P3D's implementation in that it integrates very well already with real time online real world traffic. So many elements of the flight sim world are interconnected, and getting those to work correctly with one another is a giant task. Let's face it the only benchmarks you have for comparison have been around now for 25years and beyond. So put this ginormous innovation in context and you'll likely be less perplexed at what has not been done perfectly so far. April 11, 20224 yr He is not a troll, just someone with a different opinion, and asking questions of what others think. Then he gets treated like this due to the usual lack of tolerance to others opinions here - it's appalling sometimes the way the bullies like to pile on. Air your opposite opinion and challenge the other one by all means, but why the name calling? Not a good look. I actually think apart from the world updates (always welcome), and the performance improvements (sometimes at the expense of quality), the progress has been slow but steady. I would also add that my CTD's have drastically reduced since launch in August 2020, so that is all good. However, as mentioned, it is a shame that some of the basics such as ATC and aircraft ground handling etc. haven't progressed as much, but they can't do everything at once of course. April 11, 20224 yr Considering the meaning of 'versus' is "Against" or "in contrast to", it shouldn't be a surprise the OP's viewpoint is in contrast to most of the responses. To say that MSFS hasn't improved (and dramatically so) in the 20 months since release is plain wrong (as the OP has been having to concede in several instances). Nobody has, or is likely to, say that every change to the sim has been positive, but it's nonsense to say there has been no progress since launch day. I've had several issues along the way (some very frustrating and time-consuming to resolve) but the positives have but far outweighed the negatives to the extent that the installation of FSX that I had re-installed whilst waiting for MSFS has not been installed again after I did a clean re-install of Win11 a few weeks back. Just no need desire for it. Simply put, MSFS is constantly and significantly improving month on month, problems get fixed (even if not always in the order that people most want), features get added and the experience generally improves. Sure, mistakes are made along the way but with a sim of the complexity of this one that's to be expected.
