What have you done in 600 days J...?

I must be doing something right because very day is a gem with MSFS

I agree. As someone mentioned earlier, there are two groups of simmers. I fall into the first group, as my first sim was FS95. The unbelievable jump MSFS has made and how it looks at default, is truly remarkable. The only addons I buy now are planes and it's not because the default planes look horrible, like they do in all the other sims, it's because they are simply new planes not offered in MSFS. The scenery is jaw-dropping. You can fly around the world and truly feel like you are in different places. In other sims, you're just in different...textures. I know MSFS has work to be done still, but I never get upset about the pace at which it is getting worked on. It's a complex piece of software and the fact that we have as much access to the developers, unlike any other sim, lets me know they're invested in making this sim truly the best and most immersive.

Maybe the OP was in the tech alpha like I was.  There definitely have been regressions.  I'm pretty sure this had to be done to allow for xbox compatibility.  I still have many of my old TA screenshots.  The version we have today has lower quality clouds, far less LOD radius and overall terrain sharpness - especially noticeable when mountain flying.

This was all at a cost though.  Before changing to my new rig, I'd say the the TA and even the initial RTM releases were pretty rough on systems.

I'd say they had to strike a balance and where we're at now is a decent tradeoff for quality vs performance.

Good changes that we now have are METAR-based weather (still need that visibility value Asobo!), pretty nice looking night scenes, many aerodynamic improvements (more needed hehe), GUI changes / Marketplace works a little better, as per above - performance improvements...

SU9 Beta has the best clouds I've seen in the sim so far

5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX  9070XT.

What have I done in 600 days? Worked alot, took a couple of vacations, watched my daughter get married, played some video games.

I certainly haven't crapped on MSFS enough though since the OP is upset about a video game. Its fun. All 3 major sims are video games at the end of the day.

The biggest difference I can see is in performance.  Anyone remember how slow it ran on less-than-optimal systems back in the early days?  I remember a YouTube video on whether "MSFS is the new Crysis" in that it would be the benchmark for whether your system was high-end enough.  Nowadays, it runs just fine at high quality on my seven-year-old PC (i7-6700K, GTX 980).

Several things have improved since release. In the alpha, and for the first two months after release, there were no winds aloft at all over large portions of the world, including all of the United States except a small area near the southern tip of Florida. The winds at altitude were always 253 degrees at 3 knots.

At the same time, clouds were often seen sitting right on the ground - especially on the west coast of the US. This was long before the first implementation of METAR. The cloud bug and winds aloft bug were not fixed until SU2.

At the same time, there was a temperature bug where the OAT was absurdly high when spawning at any high elevation airport (like Telluride, Colorado) with Live Weather active. This would even affect aircraft flying at high altitude - the OAT would go up 10 or 15 degrees C when even when flying at 35,000 feet, as soon as the aircraft got over mountainous terrain. That bug was not fixed until SU4.

On release, the terrain would go to low res base satellite imagery as soon as the aircraft got above about 15-16 thousand feet, with the loss of autogen buildings. It looked awful when flying airliners or other aircraft capable of flying at the flight levels. This was improved over several releases, but did not get fully resolved until the much-maligned SU5. Now, the terrain remains high res all the was up to 40,000 feet (or more) with full autogen.

While there may be some regressions, the sim is substantially better now than it was at release. It is human nature to view the past through rose-colored glasses, and to mis-remember things as being “so much better than today” while many times, that is not the case at all.

Some users see a fantastic sim, beyond anything they could ever  have imagined they would live long enough to see

That's me in a nutshell.  I dreamed about this as many did decades ago and it's largely come of age relative to what the hardware can manage.  The reality is we are in an era now of very well developed flight sims that are satisfying if you're so inclined.   What is unique for me w/ MSFS is the sense I'm really at that location in our world.  No it's not perfect but it's in a class by itself for conveying that feeling.  I'll be 70y/o in Feb and have been flight simming since the early 80's.  I probably shouldn't say this but I will anyway:  if all development of MSFS ceased today, I'd still be using it over the others!  Shhhh!  I know!!!!  Oh well they need a little encouragement to help them stay on track to continue improving this amazing platform, right? 😁.

While criticism is always good...but you should appreciates what the team has done since the release so far on the title and with its on going improvement and support to make this a simulator for all of us to enjoy.

World updates and the like ARE NOT distractions....doesn't open communication is important to all aspects within a community among the enthusiast and alike?

Can anyone enlighten me what significant changes for the better, apart from World Updates, have been done since the release of the game?

I only see attempts which often result in regressions (weather, FM, DX12.. )

There are distractions like Development Updates, Developer Q&As  that should give impression that someting is really going on but some real stuff is rarely to be seen.

Maybe I am wrong.

What I don't get is if this thread was posted in the other two forums "you know what I mean" criticizing those titles the thread would be shut down on the first page? What gives.?

Freedom to express opinions no matter the opinion, you can't breathe on the official forum without a mod finding issue with it, I would rather it be this way here at AVSim.

After all we all think differently, it's about respecting those individual thoughts or simply turning a blind eye, which everyone is capable of doing 🙂

I think they were referring to other sections of AVSim.
