FSHud - Air Traffic Control MSFS Beta

Featured Replies

Is anyone using ATC Chatter by stick and rudder with FSHud. I like FSHud and it has a ton of upside. I did have to reinstall using update 10. No big deal.

Not at this moment. I believe the dev said they would look into SAPI voices and if it's doable they would support it.

How many voices does it have?

I am not sure, it seems there are more than when I started using it about a month ago. I find them pretty good, not as bad as others.

Yes. While on the ground, when FSHud switches frequencies ATC Chatter works, but often while in flight (Center/Approach), the frequencies that FSHud uses are often shown as 'out of range' in ATC Chatter.

On one flight over New Mexico I checked both frequencies the programs were using on LiveATC.net and it appears FSHud is using the correct frequency, the frequency that ATC Chatter was using was not found in the western US, it was in Boston area.

Most likely ATC Chatter is based on the frequencies listed in MSFS, but perhaps those are out of date/incorrect.

You need to update the FS ATC Chatter database with makerunways. It's described in the manual. If you don't do that you are using the default database which doesn't have lots of the frequencies the sim is using.

HI Folks;

Does the FSHud ATC provide vectors to a runway if the last waypoint has a disconn? I have been using the product for a few weeks now and what I have noticed is if I have to land in the opposite direction of the airport I am flying to and there is a disconn following the last waypoint which is normal; I don't get vector instructions from ATC to turn xxx degree and then xxx degree to intercept the glide scope.

For example (to keep it simple) I am flying from KSFO to KSEA (a common Flt Sim test route) heading North via the HAWKZ7 and the assigned nway is 16L opposite direction. I fly parallel to the runway to the disconnn (VEC) and then I need to make a series of small turns (not really small since I am flying a 747-8😃) to intercept the glide scope for 16L. I was expecting ATC to provide instructions, but it didn't it just said contact ___ when on final.

Is that by design or am I missing a setting somewhere. I thought I would follow the directional arrow in the product but that wasn't really accurate.so not really sure if that's what the directional arrow was trying to do.

Please let me know if I am missing a setting somewhere or if that's the way it works.

Thanks.

Kindest Regards.

Forshaw.

For those interested, as a temporary placeholder for SU10 beta you can use your previous Content.xml (or a generic default version if you have no addon scenery) and FSHud will work.

FSHud - Air Traffic Control now compatible with MSFS SU10 BETA and previous version of MSFS.

Edited by FSHud

This looks interesting but... One thing I don't get about most of these ATC solutions that I've looked at is the 1990's robotic voices.  That's been a solved problem on every platform I know of for like 10 years now. Why are these app synthesized voices so behind the times?  This app seems to be particularly bad, and the voices are also very slow. 😞

Er... I suppose it's a matter of opinion but the voiced in FSHud are FAR more realistic than the robotic stuff in the other available ATC addons...! 🤔 But to each his own.

Concerning traffic: I also hardly see any traffic. I frequently hear ATC talking to other pilots but seldom see planes. Oddly enough I did see a plane taking off yesterday... but it was right in front of me while I was landing! Very bad stuff. FSHud disn't handle that incident at all, so it seemed. But I mainly bought ATC so I could have someone 'to talk to' during my flight: I don't need to see other planes and it's nice enough for me already to hear ATC talking to others.

Anyway, after flying the Fenix A320 for a long time I am back to GA flying with the C310 and FSHud still is fun to use even though I sort of fly VFR. I mainly fly with VORs only and no SIDs and STARs (and no Simbrief either) but FSHud keeps me entertained nonetheless as long as I manually enter a flightplan with the departe, destination and one or two VORs (plus the desired alt): this is done in 30 seconds or so. Thanks to the recent feature that enables you to (sort of) skip parts of a flight I can contact ATC whenever I want and it will keep an eye on me all the time. In the end it simply tells me to 'go visual' and report it when the runway is in sight. Nice.

Up to now (I mean the last week or so) I did fly from and to every VOR I used: I usually land on airports that don't have a VOR nearby (to keep me entertained) and I have yet to see what happens if I only uses VOR for triangulation and don't fly straight to and from them: I suppose FSHud will lose contact with me then since it requires you to actually fly over all waypoints. But I will give this a try later on and when FSHud loses contact I should be able to end the flight in FSHud and immediately start it again in FSHud (while I actually keep flying in MSFS) and then I should be able to use the new option to connect with ATC from your current position.

Of course this isn't official VFR flying since I do use a plan but 'real' VFR flying (without any plan) is utterly boring imho so for me this works and FSHud works great with it.

I continuously hear those critics about robotic voices of 1990...
Silly question - are you familiar or someone familiar with any text to speech modern cloud solution that can bring you realistically emotional ATC voice that is heard lets say 90% as real?
I'm afraid no - today's technology doesn't allow it....
And if yes - please share the link of text to speech service that does it.

FSHud no more requires you to fly or taxi over all waypoints - it was already fixed and at some point, those waypoints would be progressed according your location - even if you fly or taxi by absolutely different path.

The default ATC in the game uses MS Azure voices which are very good (link: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/cognitive-services/text-to-speech/#overview). AWS also has voices which are better. My car infotainment system voice is good, and the  Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant are of course very good.  So there's just a few examples of voices that are noticeably better than what's in FSHud.
